Nelson Suffers Torn ACL, Reggie Wayne Moves On, USC Coach Drunken Comments

FOOTBALL

Jordy NelsonIn the NFL, pre-season action almost always guarantees one thing — injuries. Last week, wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin went down for the season with a torn ACL.  And over the weekend, Packers star wide receiver Jordy Nelson suffered a non-contact injury that the Packers are pretty sure is also a torn ACL. If Nelson did indeed tear his ACL, he would be out for the season and Aaron Rodgers would be without one of his best weapons.  This loss could really hurt the Packers.

Elsewhere in the NFL, the Indianapolis Colts finally moved away from the “Reggie Wayne” era.  Wayne was their long-time star receiver who put up big numbers with QB Peyton Manning and helped guide QB Andrew Luck’s first few seasons.  Reportedly, Wayne has taken a physical for the New England Patriots. Belichick could use the football IQ of a playmaker like Wayne, and he thinks there still may be juice left in him.

Finally, in college football, powerhouse USC has big expectations this year, but the administration is not happy with their coach Steve Sarkisian.  Sarkisian went to a fundraising event over the weekend where guests said he was drunk and making lewd comments. He used foul language and put down other programs in an inappropriate way.  Sarkisian has apologized to the athletic director and the school as a whole, but if he wants to be the long term coach at a very unforgiving school, this is not the way to go about it.
