A few highlights from the NBA playoffs:

The NY Knicks Jalen Bronson scored a playoff-record 47 points in a 97-92 win over the Philadelphia 76ers. The Knicks are now up 3-1 in the series.

Jamal Murray hit the game winner for the Denver Nuggets in Game 5 to eliminate the LA Lakers. Murray also hit the game winner in Game 2 of the series and is the only player to hit two game-winners in the final five seconds in the same series.

FOOTBALL

Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs agreed to a two-year extension worth an extra $34.25 million. The deal makes Kelce the highest-paid tight end in the NFL.

Tom Brady will be the subject of a “live and uncensored”  roast on Netflix Sunday May 5th at 8:00 pm. Kevin Hart will host the all-star lineup of surprise roasters.

FOOTBALL

On Thursday night, the NFL held the first round of the draft where a record six quarterbacks were drafted in the first 12 picks, and the first time since 1967 that the first three players picked were quarterbacks. To no one’s surprise, former USC quarterback Caleb Williams was chosen by the Chicago Bears with the #1 pick. The Washington Commanders grabbed Jayden Daniels (QB LSU) with the #2 pick, and with the #3 pick former North Carolina QB Drake Maye will head to the New England Patriots.

FOOTBALL

New England Patriots owner, Robert Kraft, who established the Kraft Center for Jewish Student Life at Columbia University, reacted to the latest antisemitic protests on campus by pulling his funding to the University “until corrective action is taken.”

The New York Jets traded quarterback Zach Wilson (#2 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft)  to the Denver Broncos.

BASKETBALL

In NBA playoff news, the Denver Nuggets overcame a 20-point deficit to beat the Los Angeles Lakers 101-99 to take a 2-0 series lead.

In other upset news, the New York Knicks were down 101-96 with under 30 seconds left in the game. The team rallied to a 104-101 win for a 2-0 series lead.

OLYMPICS

With a little over 3 months until the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, 23 Chinese swimmers all tested positive for the same banned substance (TMZ). TMZ is the same substance Russian figure skater Kamala Valieva was accused of taking. Valieva was allowed to continue to compete and win medals at the Olympics in 2021, but there is still an effort to penalize her, so it will be interesting to see what consequences there will be for the Chinese swimmers.

FOOTBALL

Former University of Michigan head coach, Jim Harbaugh, came through on his promise to get a tattoo if his team went undefeated and won the National Title (which it did!). After getting inked, Harbaugh said, “I’m impervious to pain.”

NASCAR

The legendary NBA champion Michael Jordan co-owns the 23XI Racing team which competes in the NASCAR Cup Series. The team’s #45 Toyota Camry XSE driven by Tyler Reddick won the GEICO 500 at Talledega Superspeedway. Previously, Jordan had been told to stay away from races because he was bad luck, but on Sunday he was there in person to celebrate the big win.

In addition to dating Taylor Swift, Travis Kelce is making news for his new television gig. He will host the game show “Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity?” Kelce stated, “I grew up loving game shows, and I’m excited to be following in the footsteps of so many TV icons by hosting my first one with ‘Are you Smarter than a Celebrity. The original show is a great success, so to be bringing a new format with everyone’s favorite celebrities to the screen, will definitely be entertaining. I’m just happy to be on the hosting side of the equation here and excited to see how these famous faces keep up.”

Travis’s brother, Jason (who recently retired from his 13-year career with the Philadelphia Eagles), lost his Super Bowl ring (on his podcast New Heights) during a game involving a pool full of chili.

BASKETBALL

NBA commissioner Adam Silver gave former Toronto Raptors player Jontay Porter a lifetime ban for gambling infractions. The last time the NBA issued a lifetime ban was the Pistons’ Jack Molinas in 1954.

The NBA Playoffs will be finalized after the Play-In Tournament games are decided today. The Miami Heat and the Chicago Bulls play for the East’s #8 spot, while the winner of the New Orleans Pelicans and Sacramento Kings matchup will determine the final playoff spot in the West. BASKETBALL

To no one’s surprise, the Indiana Fever selected Caitlin Clark with the #1 pick in the WNBA draft. Clark’s rival Angel Reese will head to Chicago after the Sky selected her with the #7 pick. The draft drew a whopping 2.446 million viewers shattering the previous record of 601,000 in 2004.

The NBA regular season is over with the 16-team playoffs beginning on Saturday. So far in this week’s play-in games, Sacramento ended the Golden State Warriors playoff chances, while the Los Angeles Lakers edged out the New Orleans Pelicans. Click here for the full schedule.

New England Patriots legend Rob Gronkowski threw out the first pitch for the Boston Red Sox on Monday, and in typical Gronk style made a splash. Instead of attempting to throw a regular pitch, he spiked the ball just like he used to spike the ball after scoring a touchdown.

GOLF

Scottie Scheffler once again showed the world why he’s the best. For the second time in three years, Scheffler won the Masters. In a show of his expertise and experience, Scheffler birdied three straight holes at the end of the day to put him safely in the lead over Collin Morikawa, Ludvig Aberg, and Max Homa.

UConn easily beat Purdue 75-60 to win the Men’s NCAA championship. With the win, UConn became the first repeat champions since the 2006-2007 Florida Gators. Purdue’s 7’4″ powerhouse Zach Edey looked unstoppable at the beginning of the evening, but by halftime, the Huskies surged ahead and never looked back. UConn now has 6 national titles, which ties them for the third-most national championships in NCAA history.

The TV ratings for the women’s national championship are impressive. 18.7 million people tuned in to watch South Carolina beat Iowa on Sunday, the largest audience for a basketball game (college or pro) since 2019.

BASKETBALL

The South Carolina Gamecocks beat Caitlin Clark’s Iowa 87-75 on Sunday to win the national championship. With the win and a 38-0 record, the Gamecocks made history by being the 10th undefeated national champions in Division I women’s basketball. South Carolina coach, Dawn Staley has cemented her place as one of the greatest women’s basketball players as well as coaches. As a coach, she won two championships in three years for South Carolina and has three national titles. And, as a player at Virginia, she received two national player of the year awards then won three Olympic gold medals and had six WNBA All-Star appearances.

The men’s game is Monday night with UConn and Purdue battling it out for the title of National Champion.

BASKETBALL

The Women’s Final Four is set with Iowa, Connecticut, South Carolina and North Carolina State playing for the national championship. The anticipated matchup between Iowa’s Caitlin Clark and LSU’s Angel Reese on Monday night (sending Iowa to the next round) did not disappoint. The storyline had Iowa seeking revenge after losing to LSU in the national championship game last year. Clark brought out her superpowers and shot 41 points, with 7 rebounds, 12 assists, and 9 three-pointers. Reese came out to play too finishing with 17 points, 20 rebounds and four assists.
