Young, Stroud, Anderson Jr. Go Top 3 In NFL Draft, Will Levis Still Waiting, Lamar Gets Big Payday

FOOTBALL

To no one’s surprise the Carolina Panthers took Alabama quarterback Bryce Young with the number one pick in the 2023 NFL draft. The Houston Texans grabbed Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud with the number 2 pick and made some big trades to take Alabama defensive end Will Anderson Jr at #3.

After a Reddit post projected Will Levis could be picked #1 in the draft, the Kentucky quarterback awkwardly sat all night in the Green Room and will have to wait until round 2 to hear his name.

After a long drawn out process, Lamar Jackson finally got his big payday. The Baltimore Ravens made a deal with the quarterback for $260 million ($185 million guaranteed).

Aaron Rodgers A Jet, Sixers Advance, Butler’s Epic Game, Lakers Take Lead, Reynolds/McElhenney’s Ted Lasso Moment

FOOTBALL

The speculation is finally over. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers has a new home with the New York Jets. The Green Bay Packers agreed on Monday to trade Rodgers for a mix of 2023 draft picks and a conditional 2024 pick if Rodgers plays 65% of the plays this season.

BASKETBALL

The Philadelphia 76ers advanced to the next round of the playoffs in a sweep of the Brooklyn Nets, but their star player, Joel Embiid has a knee issue which could sideline him for the start of the second round.

The Miami Heat, after an epic game from Jimmy Butler on Monday night, led the team to a 3-1 advantage over the Milwaukee Bucks.

In the West division, the LA Lakers beat the Grizzlies in overtime to take a 3-1 lead over the Memphis Grizzlies.

SOCCER

In a script that could have been taken out of “Ted Lasso”, actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s Wrexham earned a promotion to League Two, ending a 15-year run in the National League. The actors put the team on the world map last year by documenting the club’s history in their first year of ownership in the FX docuseries “Welcome to Wrexham.”

An emotional Reynolds tweeted, “This town and this sport is one of the most romantic things on earth.” Watch this clip with a teary-eyed Reynolds and McElhenney after the win!

Harden, Embiid, Green Fouls, Warriors Cut Deficit, Suns Over Clippers, Brogdon 6th Man, Scherzer Won’t Appeal, Drake Loses Big On Parlays

BASKETBALL

The Philadelphia 76ers went up 3-0 against the Brooklyn Nets, but all anyone is talking about is James Harden’s controversial ejection from the game, and Joel Embiid’s flagrant 1 foul which looked very similar to Draymond Green’s suspension from two nights ago. If you watch all three, there’s clearly no consistency in the calls.

In other NBA news, the Warriors (without Draymond) beat the Sacramento Kings in a pivotal game 3 to bring the series deficit to 2-1. And, the Phoenix Suns narrowly beat the Clippers to take a 2-1 lead in the series.

Boston Celtics point guard Malcolm Brogdon was named Sixth Man of the Year. He’s one of only two players to win both the Sixth Man of the Year and Rookie of the Year.

BASEBALL

Matt Scherzer won’t be appealing his 10-game suspension for the use of “sticky stuff” on his glove because he felt the appeal wouldn’t be heard by a neutral arbitrator.

OTHER

Musician and massive sports enthusiast Drake, posted on Instagram that he was on a betting cold streak after losing two parlays for a combined $150,000. That was nothing compared to the $400,000 he lost in February for betting on Jake Paul to knock out Tommy Fury.

A’s Purchase Land In Las Vegas, Scherzer Ejected For Foreign Substance, Brown Named Coach Of Year, Tua Takes Jiu-Jitsu

BASEBALL

The Oakland A’s agreed to purchase 49 acres of land near the Las Vegas Strip with the intention of building a $1.5 billion ballpark and relocating to Nevada. If everything goes on schedule, the new stadium would be ready for the start of the 2027 season. The A’s current ballpark (the Oakland Coliseum) has many issues including a “colony of feral cats and a possum living in the visitors’ TV booth.”

The Mets’ pitcher Max Scherzer was ejected for allegedly having a foreign substance on his hand. Scherzer swore it was “just sweat and rosin,” but the umpires insisted it was the stickiest hand they’d ever seen. Scherzer could face a 10-game suspension, but he’ll likely file a protest.

BASKETBALL

Sacramento Kings coach Mike Brown became the first ever unanimous selection for NBA Coach of the Year.

FOOTBALL

Miami quarterback Tua Tagovailoa suffered major concussion issues last season and said he seriously considered retiring. Instead, he’s taken matters into his own hands (literally) by learning jiu-jitsu to help him fall more safely.

Hurts Makes History W/Big Payout, Damar Hamlin Cleared To Play, Draymond Suspended, NBA Combine Rules

FOOTBALL

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts became the highest-paid player in NFL history with a five-year $255 million extension.

Twenty-five-year-old safety Damar Hamlin has been cleared to play with the Buffalo Bills three months after his on-field cardiac arrest during a Monday Night Football game.

BASKETBALL

Draymond Green will serve a suspension after stomping on the chest of Domantas Sabonis during the Warriors-Kings series. The League issued a statement saying the suspension “was based in part on Green’s history of unsportsmanlike acts.” To name a few, Green was suspended during the playoffs in 2016 (hit LeBron James in the groin), and in 2018 Golden State suspended Green for “conduct detrimental to the team” when he had a dust-up with his then-teammate Kevin Durant.

The NBA announced that beginning in 2024, players hoping to be drafted must participate in the NBA Combine, a multi-day event taking place in May before the June draft. In the past, many prospects have skipped this event.

BASKETBALL

Congrats to UConn for grabbing their fifth national championship in a decisive 76-59 victory over San Diego State. Adama Sanogo recorded his fourth double-double of the tournament and took home the Most Outstanding Player honors. The Huskies are only the seventh team to win the title after starting the season unranked and the first since 2011 (when UConn also won after starting unranked).

San Diego State Vs UConn In Title Game, LSU Defeats Iowa, Reese Mimicks Clark’s Celebration

BASKETBALL

In the Men’s NCAA, San Diego State’s Lamont Butler’s jump shot at the final buzzer gave the team (which hadn’t lead all second half) a dramatic 72-71 win over Florida Atlantic.

In the second game of the night, UConn easily blew past Miami 72-59. San Diego State and UConn will meet for the championship Monday Night.

In the women’s tournament, Caitlin Clark led Iowa past South Carolina to set up a title game against LSU, which was making its first ever appearance in a national championship.

Clark continued to impress with 30 points, but LSU and Final Four’s Most Outstanding Player Angel Reese crushed Iowa 102-85. The game wasn’t without a bit of drama, though, when Reese mimicked Clark’syou can’t see celebration.”
