WFT Ugly Win, McCaffrey Out For Season, Riley/Kelly Cash In At USC/LSU, Mets Sign Scherzer

FOOTBALL

The Washington Football Team barely squeaked out a win over Seattle in an ugly Monday Night Football matchup. The Seahawks tried to tie the score by a two-point conversion with seconds left in the game, but cornerback Kendall Fuller intercepted QB Russell Wilson. Washington 17, Seattle 15.

In other NFL news, Carolina Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey is out for the rest of the 2021 season with an ankle injury.

Two big-name coaches shook up the college football world in the last 24 hours. Lincoln Riley left Oklahoma for a massive contract with USC. Riley’s deal is reportedly worth $110 million, including full access to a private jet, a $6 million dollar home in LA, and a buy-out of both of Riley’s Oklahoma homes (1/2 million dollars over asking price).

Brian Kelly sent Notre Dame a text on Monday night saying he’s going to LSU on a 10-year contract worth $100 million.

BASEBALL

The NY Mets made a splash by signing future Hall of Famer Max Scherzer to a whopping three-year, $130 million deal, the fifth-largest deal in Mets history.

Big Upsets In Rivalry Week In College Football, Bucs Defender Laughs When Tooth Falls Out, WR Deebo’s Rushing Stats

FOOTBALL

There were some important NFL games over the weekend, but the big stories came from rivalry week in the college football world.

With only one week to go in the regular season, three big matchups stirred up some drama. Here’s what happened:

Michigan beat Ohio State for the first time in 10 years. With the win, the Wolverines will play in the Big Ten championship game and may even get a College Football Playoff birth. And, Ohio State’s hopes for a playoff berth are essentially over. Michigan 42, Ohio State 27.

Alabama beat Auburn 24-22 to win the Iron Bowl, but it didn’t look pretty. The Crimson Tide needed four overtimes to pull off the win. They will now face #1 ranked Georgia next weekend for the SEC Championship.

Oklahoma State barely edged out Oklahoma 37-33 and knocked the Sooners out of the playoff race.

In the NFL, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers showed some real strength (especially with Leonard Fournette’s four touchdowns) in their win over the Indianapolis Colts. The Bucs defense also did their part and even had a laugh when their defensive lineman Vita Vea lost a tooth caused by a helmet to his mouth.

The San Francisco 49ers have won three straight games and have moved up in the NFC rankings thanks to the rushing efforts of wide receiver Deebo Samuel. He’s the first wide receiver since 1967 with a rushing touchdown in three straight games.

Bears Snap Losing Streak, Cowboys Defense Issues, Josh Allen’s 4 TD’s In Bills Win

FOOTBALL

Here’s a recap of the Thanksgiving NFL games!

In the first game of the day, the Chicago Bears snapped a five-game losing streak in a very boring win over the Detroit Lions. Bears 16, Lions 14.

The Dallas Cowboys tried valiantly to stage a comeback in the second game of the day, but thanks to the Las Vegas Raiders kicker Daniel Carlson’s field goal in overtime (his fifth of the game), and the Cowboys defensive penalties (Anthony Brown had four defensive pass interferences), the Raiders prevailed 36-33 OT.

In the final game of the day, thanks to Buffalo QB Josh Allen’s four touchdowns, the Bills destroyed the New Orleans Saints 31-6. In the last two seasons, only Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers have more games with 4-plus passing touchdowns than Allen. Both Brady and Rodgers have 9 each.

LeBron/Stewart Suspensions, Shumpert Wins DWTS, Shuai Emerges, Bucs Beat Giants MNF

BASKETBALL

LeBron James elbowed Isaiah Stewart in the face on Sunday night leading to an on-court tussle. Both players were ejected, and LeBron will miss Tuesday’s game against the NY Knicks. It’s LeBron’s first suspension in his 19 years in the League. Stewart was suspended for two games for continuing to engage LeBron in the altercation even after the play was finished.

Former NBA player Iman Shumpert and his dancing partner Daniella Karagach won Dancing with the Stars becoming the only former NBA player to win the competition and the only NBA player to make even make it to the Finals. Watch their amazing freestyle routine.

TENNIS

The tennis star, Peng Shuai, finally emerged over the weekend in a 30-minute video call with IOC President Thomas Bach. The call and subsequent videos and photos of Peng out and about didn’t satisfy WTA CEO Steve Simon who is demanding a full investigation into her disappearance over the last few weeks and her allegations of sexual assault. Simon is threatening to pull out of tournaments in China over the incident.

FOOTBALL

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers had no trouble cruising to an easy 30-10 victory over the NY Giants on Monday Night Football.

Patriots Crush Falcons, Brown Fake Vaccine, Newton’s 50 Free Tkts, Peng Shuai Ordeal, Harper/Ohtani MVP’s, Curry Shining

FOOTBALL

The New England Patriots crushed the Atlanta Falcons 25-0 on Thursday Night Football thanks to their defense which made four interceptions and had four sacks.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Antonio Brown is in hot water again. His former chef accused Brown of not paying him $10,000 for services rendered and showed a text exchange implicating Brown and his  girlfriend of buying fake vaccination cards.

Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton certainly entertained the crowd in his first press conference since returning to his old team. He arrived in a fedora hat with a Clark Kent press pass (Cam is known as Superman for his touchdown celebrations). He also promised to give away 50 free tickets to the Panthers home game this weekend to fans who have never been to the Bank of America stadium. And, then to cap it all off, he moon danced off the podium.

TENNIS

Tennis start Peng Shuai is still missing. Two weeks ago she posted on social media of sexual assault by a powerful government official. The posts were quickly deleted but then she went missing, and no one has seen from her since. A couple of days ago the Chinese government released a statement attributed to her stating that she was fine and no assault ever took place, but most are skeptical the statement was actually from her. The Women’s Tennis Association has been heavily weighing in on this issue, and there are now questions about what to do with the upcoming Winter Olympics in Beijing if this situation is as dire as it seems.

BASEBALL

Bryce Harper was awarded the National League MVP and Shohei Ohtani took home the American League MVP awards Thursday night. Ohtani got a unanimous vote, while Harper received 17 of 30 first-place votes.

BASKETBALL

Steph Curry continues to shine in the Warriors decisive 104-89 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers. With 40 points, four rebounds and six assists, he made history again by making at least nine 3-pointers for the 38th time in his career. According to ESPN Stats and Info, “he now has more nine 3-pointer games since April (10) than any other player in NBA their entire NBA career.”

Pats Win Streak, WFT Ends Losing Streak, Harris Now Knows About Tie Games, Cam’s Impressive Debut

FOOTBALL

Some highlights from the weekend’s NFL games:

The New England Patriots are on a four-game win streak thanks to rookie quarterback Mac Jones who threw for three touchdowns in a massive 45-7 win over the Cleveland Browns. Kudos to Patriots wide receiver Jakobi Meyers who finally scored a touchdown after having the most catches (134) and most receiving yards (1,560) without seeing the endzone.

And, speaking of streaks, the Washington Football Team ended their four-game losing streak by shutting down the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 29-19. The defending Super Bowl champs QB Tom Brady had a rough day after getting intercepted twice in his first 6 passes.

The Pittsburgh Steelers and Detroit Lions ended their day in a sloppy 16-16 rain-soaked tie marked by four penalties, two turnovers, three fumbles, and one missed field goal (and that was just in overtime).  After the game, Steelers running back Najee Harris got some attention by saying he didn’t realize it was possible to have a tie game in the NFL.

Cam Newton had a memorable debut in his return to the Carolina Panthers by scoring twice in his first two possessions leading to a 34-10 win over the Arizona Cardinals.

Dolphins Pull Out Win Thanks To Tua, Odell Signs W/Rams, Newton Signs W/Panthers, Soccer Scandal

FOOTBALL

Jacoby Brissett started at quarterback for the Miami Dolphins on Thursday Night Football, but was replaced by Tua Tagovailoa (who had a fractured finger). Tua scored late in the game to give the team a 22-10 win over the Baltimore Ravens.

In other NFL news, Odell Beckham Jr., who was released by the Cleveland Browns, has signed a one-year deal with the Los Angeles Rams. And, quarterback Cam Newton, who was cut by the New England Patriots in August, is returning to Charlotte for a one year deal. Cam won the NFL MVP award in 2015 and led the Panthers to Super Bowl 50 but then struggled with injuries the last few years.

SOCCER

In an odd story out of the soccer world, a Paris St-Germain player was arrested for potential foul play in an attack on her teammate by masked men. According to reports, Aminata Diallo was giving her teammate Kheira Hamraoui (who has replaced her as a starter on the team), a ride home from a team dinner when masked men pulled Hamraoui from the car and beat her up. The investigation is ongoing.

BASKETBALL

The NBA is continuing to investigate Phoenix Suns owner Robert Sarver for allegations of racism, misogyny and a bad work environment. Meanwhile his wife Penny has reportedly been sending “intimidating messages” to try and “set the record straight” to a few former Suns employees.

The Maccabees coach, Elliot Steinmetz, became coach in 2014 and has led the team to winning seasons ever since. And, in 2020, Steinmetz was named coach of the year for leading the Maccabees to the Sweet 16 of the National Tournament.
