Falcons Beat Panthers On TNF, Gurley Needs Head In Game, Trevor Lawrence Tests Positive, White Sox Hire Tony La Russa

FOOTBALL

The Atlanta Falcons beat the Carolina Panthers 25-17 on Thursday Night Football. Atlanta running back Todd Gurley almost made another late-game error (see last week’s game against the Detroit Lions) that could have cost his team another loss. With just over three minutes left in the 4th quarter, Atlanta was trying to run out the clock. Gurley got the ball, but instead of staying in bounds to take time off the clock, he ran out of bounds to avoid contact. Thankfully for Gurley and the Falcons, the Panthers couldn’t put together a winning drive.  After starting the season 0-5, Atlanta has now won two of their last three games.

In college football news, Clemson quarterback and Heisman Trophy favorite Trevor Lawrence tested positive for COVID-19 and will miss Saturday’s game against Boston College. He may also miss next week’s matchup against Notre Dame.

BASEBALL

The Chicago White Sox hired 76-year-old Tony La Russa as their new manager. La Russa is the third-winningest manager in baseball history. He’s also in the Baseball Hall of Fame.

Dodgers Win World Series, Turner Tests Positive And Still Celebrates With Team

BASEBALL

With a 3-1 win over the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday night, the Los Angeles Dodgers won the World Series. The win marks the first time in 32 years the Dodgers have held the championship trophy.

The celebration after the game was bizarre, however. The Dodgers’ third baseman Justin Turner was pulled out of the game in the 8th inning and told he had tested positive (twice) for COVID-19. He was told to isolate, but immediately after the win, he came back on the field to celebrate with his teammates. He even removed his mask during the team photo commemorating their championship. What was even more surprising is he was sitting next to Dave Roberts, the Dodgers’ manager, who was diagnosed 10 years ago with Hodgkin Lymphoma.

Good news for Taco Bell fans today. The fast-food chain is handing out free tacos all day Wednesday thanks to the Dodgers’ Mookie Betts having stolen a base in Game 1 of the Series.

Rams Dominate Bears On MNF, Beckham Jr. Torn ACL, AB Signs W/Bucs, McCaffrey At Practice

FOOTBALL

The LA Rams dominated the Chicago Bears on Monday Night Football 24-10. The Rams made sure the Bears’ offense was completely ineffective. In fact, the Bears’ defense scored the team’s only touchdown of the game. As for the Rams, quarterback Jared Goff threw for 219 yards and scored three touchdowns.

Cleveland Browns wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. has a torn ACL and will miss the rest of the NFL season. Beckham suffered the injury on Sunday in the Browns’ win over the Cincinnati Bengals.

Toxic wide receiver Antonio Brown officially signed his contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Carolina Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey is back on the practice field after suffering an ankle injury that kept him on injured reserve for five weeks. It’s still unclear if McCaffrey will play on Thursday vs the Atlanta Falcons.

Wild Game 4, Dodgers Grab Game 5, NBA Season Dec 22nd, Amar’e Joins Nash, Seahawks/Cardinals Entertain, Steelers Undefeated, Gurley & Ford Mess Up

BASEBALL

This has been an exciting World Series. In Game 4 on Saturday, the Tampa Bay Rays won on one of the wildest plays seen in MLB history. The Rays were trailing 6-7 with two outs in the bottom of the ninth when Brett Phillips hit the ball to center field for what appeared to be a single. Thanks to multiple Dodgers’ errors, Phillips teammate Randy Arozarena ended up scoring from second base after tripping and falling a few feet from home plate. Definitely check out the whole series of errors that led the Rays to even the series.

Unfortunately for the Rays, the excitement didn’t last as they lost Game 5 on Sunday thanks to a great outing by Dodgers’ pitcher Clayton Kershaw, who got a standing ovation after 5 innings. The Dodgers head to Game 6 on Monday night up 3-2.

BASKETBALL

The NBA has informed the Board of Governors that it plans to start their 2020/21 season on December 22nd.

Amar’e Stoudemire has agreed to be part of Steve Nash’s coaching staff for the Brooklyn Nets. Stoudemire played with Nash for six seasons from 2004-2010.

FOOTBALL

In the NFL, the Seattle Seahawks and Arizona Cardinals played one of the most entertaining games of the weekend with the score changing hands throughout, and the Cardinals eventually winning 37-34 in overtime.

After beating the Tennessee Titans on Sunday, the Pittsburgh Steelers are the only remaining undefeated team in the NFL. Steelers 27, Titans 24

Atlanta Falcons running back Todd Gurley knew he messed up by scoring a touchdown against the Detroit Lions. If he had avoided the end zone, as he did in a game also against the Lions in 2018, his Falcons would have been able to run out the clock for the win. After the accidental score, the Lions had time to pull out a touchdown for a 23-22 win.

In college football, almost the exact same misstep happened when Penn State’s Devyn Ford accidentally scored giving them a 28-20 lead over Indiana with time on the clock. Indiana then came back to tie the game and ultimately won in overtime handing Penn State a big loss in their first game of the season.

Rays Even Series, Seahawks Looking At Antonio Brown, LSU Banning Odell Beckham Jr

BASEBALL

Tampa Bay’s Brandon Lowe found his form and hit two home runs for a 6-4 win over the Dodgers in Game 2. The World Series is now tied at 1 game apiece with Game 3 on Friday night.

FOOTBALL

The Seattle Seahawks are one of many teams looking to sign Antonio Brown now that his suspension is ending. The NFL suspended Brown for eight games due to multiple conduct violations including sexual abuse.

The NCAA is continuing to investigate LSU for illegal booster payments to its football players. While the investigation continues, the Tigers self-imposed penalties including losing eight scholarships, reducing recruiting visits, and banning Cleveland Browns receiver Odell Beckham Jr. from its football facilities. Odell was caught on camera giving $2,000 in cash to four Tigers football players after the team beat Clemson in last year’s College Football National Championship.

Dodgers Take Game 1 Thanks To Kershaw, Bellinger, & Betts, Cohen Cleared To Buy Mets

BASEBALL

The LA Dodgers dominated Game 1 of the World Series against the Tampa Bay Rays. Clayton Kershaw has had prior troubles in his postseason appearances, but last night he overcame those struggles and only allowed just one run in six innings. Cody Bellinger and Mookie Betts also contributed to the Dodgers’s impressive 8-3 win.  Even though it’s only one win, 20 of the last 25 World Series champions won Game 1 of the series.  Game 2 tonight at 8:08 pm ET.

In other baseball news, MLB’s Ownership Committee approved Steve Cohen’s bid to buy the NY Mets. Cohen’s net worth is $14.6 billion, which, in a league without a salary cap, could make a difference for the team.

Chiefs Beat Bills, Mahomes Makes History, Cowboys Destroyed By Cardinals, Game 1 World Series

FOOTBALL

In the first of two Monday Night Football games, the Kansas City Chiefs handily beat the Buffalo Bills 26-17. Thanks to solid performances from quarterback Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, and Clyde Edwards-Hellaire, the Chiefs offense was too much for the Bills. Mahomes even made history by becoming the fastest player in NFL history to throw 90 career touchdown passes (37 games), while Dan Marino hit this goal in 40 games.

The Dallas Cowboys got destroyed by the Arizona Cardinals in the second game of the night. The lopsided 38-10 win was almost all due to mistakes from Dallas players: Ezekiel Elliot fumbled twice and Andy Dalton threw two interceptions.

BASEBALL

Tyler Glasnow (Pitcher Tampa Bay Rays) and Clayton Kershaw (Pitcher LA Dodgers) will take the mound tonight for Game 1 of the World Series at 8:09 pm ET.

Dodgers Vs Rays In World Series, Brady Connects With Gronk For 91st TD, Saban Coaches Alabama’s Win Over Georgia, Big Ten/Mountain West Begin Season

BASEBALL

The World Series matchup is set. Thanks in part to a monstrous seventh-inning home run by Cody Bellinger, the LA Dodgers beat the Atlanta Braves in an exciting Game 7. They will now take on the Tampa Bay Rays who bested the Houston Astros in their Game 7. The Dodgers haven’t won the World Series since 1988, and the Rays have never held the title. Game 1 is on Tuesday at 8:09 pm ET.

FOOTBALL

Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers obliterated the Green Bay Packers on Sunday. Brady even connected with tight end Rob Gronkowski for their 91st touchdown (the third most by any teammates trailing only Steve Young to Jerry Rice with 92 TD’s and Peyton Manning to Marvin Harrison at 114).

In the NCAA over the weekend, Alabama head coach Nick Saban, who had tested positive for COVID-19 earlier in the week, was able to coach on Saturday and led the Crimson Tide to a 41-24 win over their rival Georgia.

The Big Ten and Mountain West begin their delayed 2020 season this weekend with a much-anticipated matchup between Ohio State and Nebraska.

Saban Tests Positive, 19 Gators Test Positive, Dodgers Make History With 11 Runs, Astros Still Alive

FOOTBALL

Alabama head coach Nick Saban tested positive for Covid-19 and will be self-isolating this week. Offensive coordinator Steve Sakisian is prepping the #2 ranked Crimson Tide for their big matchup against #3 Georgia on Sunday. The 69-year-old Saban said he wasn’t experiencing any symptoms and will take another test to see if he can coach this weekend.

In other college football news, the Florida Gators are dealing with a major outbreak of coronavirus cases. The Gators postponed their matchup against LSU this weekend after 19 players tested positive.

BASEBALL

The Los Angeles Dodgers came out swinging and made history in Game 3 against the Atlanta Braves. They scored 11 runs in just the first inning (the most runs ever scored in a single inning by a team in MLB playoff history) and went on to destroy the Braves 15-3. Atlanta leads the series 2-1 with game 4 at 8:08 pm ET tonight.

In the other playoff game, the Houston Astros kept their season alive by beating the Tampa Bay Rays 4-3. The Rays lead 3-1 with game 5 at 5:07 pm ET tonight.
