BASEBALL

A fight broke out between the Pittsburgh Pirates and Cincinnati Reds in the 9th inning Tuesday night. Shortly after the Reds traded Yasiel Puig to the Cleveland Indians, Puig was ejected. Pirates 11, Reds 4.

The Major League Baseball trade deadline is Wednesday at 4:00 pm ET.

FOOTBALL

Coming off a great season, Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck recently experienced a setback after suffering a left calf strain. He will be out at least 2 practices. According to Luck, “If I Go Out Here With Pain, I’ll Be Average….It’s Not Good Enough for This Club.”
In more injury-related news, Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver A.J. Green suffered an ankle injury during the first practice of the preseason. He underwent surgery on Tuesday and is expected to miss multiple games once the regular season begins.

BASKETBALL

LeBron James has been getting lots of attention (good and bad) for hamming it up at his son Bronny’s AAU summer league. He’s clearly having a blast (and so are the kids) dunking and being dunked on. On one enthusiastic play, he even lost his shoe.

Cowboys Sign Alfred Morris, Elliott In Cabo, Bell Apologizes To Fantasy Owners

FOOTBALL

Ezekiel Elliott still hasn’t reported to Dallas training camp (reportedly heading to Cabo San Lucas), so the Cowboys signed former Pro Bowler Alfred Morris. This isn’t the first time Morris has filled in for Elliott. In 2017, the team brought Morris in while Elliott was suspended for six games for violating the league’s personal conduct policy.

After a year-long contract dispute, Le’Veon Bell signed with the New York Jets this offseason. In expressing his enthusiasm for the upcoming season, he also tweeted an apology to fantasy football owners for drafting him last season. He said, “this is loooong overdue!! but I want to take a moment to apologize to all the fantasy owners who picked me last year, I’m sorry I couldn’t pull through for y’all…but trust me, this year’s about to be wayyyy different, I’m bringing the

FOOTBALL

It’s only been three days into the New York Giants training camp, and already the team’s receiving corp is suffering. Their #3 and #4 receivers have also sustained injuries.

Professional video gamers competed over the weekend for $30 million in prizes at the Fortnite World Cup Finals at Arthur Ashe Stadium. Sixteen-year-old Kye “Bugha” Giersdorf won the Solo finals with a prize of $3 million.

CYCLING

Twenty-two-year-old Egan Bernal became the first Colombian to win the Tour de France. He’s also the youngest cyclist to win the race in more than 100 years.

BASEBALL

The New York Mets appear to be in reshuffling mode after Sunday’s news that the Blue Jays traded pitcher Marcus Stroman to the NY Mets. The Rays will receive pitching prospects Anthony Kay and Simeon Woods Richardson. There’s also speculation that the Mets will trade Noah Syndergaard (possibly to the San Diego Padres). Expect more news from around the league for the next two days as the Major League Baseball trade deadline is Wednesday.

Odell Beckham Jr. Without Signature Hair, Manning Responds To OBJ, Elliott May Not Appear At Camp

FOOTBALL

Odell Beckham Jr. arrived at the Cleveland Browns training camp without his signature blond dreadlocks. Beckham Jr. told USA Today Sports, “My mom blessed me. I’ve got the premium up top. I just wanted to cut it off and start over. In a sense, I felt like my hair, it had built a reputation of its own. Not to say that’s not who I am, but I’m much bigger than that. I might grow it back. But I just wanted to start over. I just wanted to clean the slate.”

Odell Beckham Jr. continued to stay in the news with his comment about his former team, the New York Giants and quarterback Eli Manning.  He told GQ Magazine, “I was a main reason at keeping that brand alive.”  Manning responded appropriately by saying, “I won a few games before he was here.”

In other training camp news, Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott did not join the team on their scheduled charter to Southern California. Elliott is looking to secure a massive contract extension, and it’s unclear if the Cowboys will agree.

Ramsey In Armored Truck, Byard Highest Paid Safety, Julio Jones Contract

FOOTBALL

NFL training camps begin this week, but some players are still waiting to hear about their contracts. The Jacksonville Jaguars cornerback Jalen Ramsey made his complaint very public when he had TV crews film his arrival to training camp in an armored truck.  Before Ramsey exited the truck, the driver introduced Ramsey shouting, “You know what time it is. This man covers so good, he better have his own cell phone service. … The man, the myth, Jalen Ramsey! It’s time to get this money.”

One player who is not complaining is the Tennessee Titans’ Kevin Byard. Byard agreed to a five-year, $70.5 million contract extension making him the highest-paid safety in NFL history!

Atlanta Falcons receiver Julio Jones is waiting for the team to offer him a contract consistent with his production. He’s led the league in receptions and is a six-time Pro Bowler, but his outdated salary ranks him 15th among receivers. In his current contract, Jones will make $9.6 million compared to Cleveland Browns’ Odell Beckham Jr’s base salary of $16,750,000. Jones explained he’s not concerned about making more than Odell. He said, “I want to be the best teammate I can possibly be no matter where I’m at and the type of person that when you see me you say, ‘I enjoyed playing with that guy. I had a great time with that person. More than all this other stuff that everybody gets all caught up in. Contract talk, things like this — I just love the game of football in general.”

Zion Signs With Jordan Brands, Adrian Peterson In Debt

BASKETBALL

The New Orleans Pelicans’ rookie Zion Williamson signed a seven-year shoe contract with Jordan Brands. The #1 pick in the NBA draft was courted by many shoe companies, but according to Zion, it was his “dream” to wear the Jordan logo. He said, “I feel incredibly blessed to be a part of the Jordan Brand family. Since I was a kid, I dreamed of making it to the league & having the type of impact on the game Michael Jordan had & continues to have today. He was one of those special athletes I looked up to.” The Jordan Brand also represents Russell Westbrook, Chris Paul, Jimmy Butler, and Blake Griffin.

FOOTBALL

Washington Redskins running back Adrian Peterson is having financial trouble even though he has made close to $100 million over his 13 seasons in the NFL. Peterson’s lawyer explained that this is “yet another situation of an athlete trusting the wrong people and being taken advantage of by those he trusted.” Peterson will enter Redskins training camp this week competing with Derrius Guice for the starting position.

Odell Beckham Jr. Felt “Disrespected”, Most Valuable Sports Teams

FOOTBALL

Odell Beckham Jr. is getting extra media attention for what he said in his recent GQ cover story.  Beckham Jr. revealed how “disrespected” he felt after getting traded by the NY Giants to the Cleveland Browns. The superstar wide receiver said, “I felt disrespected, because I felt like I was a main reason at keeping that brand alive. They were getting prime-time games, still, as a 5-and-11 team. Why? Because people want to see the show. You want to see me play. That’s just real rap. I’m not sitting here like, ‘It’s because of me.’ But let’s just be real. That’s why we’re still getting prime-time games. I felt disrespected they weren’t even man enough to even sit me down to my face and tell me what’s going on.”

OTHER

According to Forbes magazine, the Dallas Cowboys, the New York Yankees and soccer club Real Madrid top the list of the most valuable sports teams in the world. Shane Lowry Won British Open, Tom Brady Backlash For Cliff Dive With 6-Yr Old Daughter

GOLF

Ireland’s Shane Lowry won the British Open. The Open returned to Northern Ireland for the first time in 68 years, so having the 32-year old Irishman win was exciting for the fans.  Brooks Koepka finished in the top five for the fifth straight championship. He is only the fifth player in the Masters era (since 1934) to accomplish that feat. He joins Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods, Rickie Fowler and Jordan Spieth.

FOOTBALL

Many on social media are giving New England quarterback Tom Brady a hard time for taking his 6-year old daughter on a cliff dive. Brady posted the dive on Instagram and immediately received backlash from his friends and fans.  One of his buddies, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson posted a response to Brady saying, “You KNOW I have complete faith in you as a man, friend, player and father – but this just gave me anxiety. Geeezus.” He followed the text with crying laughing and clapping emojis.

Nike Countersues Kawhi, Harden Minority Stake In Soccer, Lowry Surgery, Harbaugh Swipes Meyer

BASKETBALL

Kawhi Leonard is in the midst of suing Nike for what he claims is his “Klaw” design. Kawhi said he provided the design to Nike so he owns it. Nike has now countersued stating “In this action, Kawhi Leonard seeks to re-write history by asserting that he created the ‘Claw Design’ logo, but it was not Leonard who created that logo. In his Complaint, Leonard alleges he provided a design to NIKE. That is true. What is false is that the design he provided was the Claw Design. Not once in his Complaint does Leonard display or attach either the design that he provided or the Claw Design. Instead, he conflates the two, making it appear as though those discrete works are one and the same. They are not.” After ending his contract with Nike, Kawhi has signed a shoe deal with New Balance.

Houston Rockets superstar James Harden has a new hobby. He recently purchased a minority stake in Major League Soccer’s Houston Dynamo and the National Women’s Soccer League’s Houston Dash. He also has a stake in BBVA Stadium where both teams play. He commented, “Houston is my home now, and I saw this as a way to invest in my city and expand my business interests at the same time. Soccer in general, and especially MLS, have exploded in this country throughout my lifetime. I’ve been a fan of the game for several years, and I know that Houston has a massive soccer fanbase, so it was an easy decision for me when this opportunity arose.”

In other NBA news, Toronto Raptors Kyle Lowry underwent surgery to repair a torn tendon in his left thumb. Lowry is planning to spend his off-season participating in USA Basketball training camp and FIBA World Cup later in the summer

FOOTBALL

Michigan Head Coach Jim Harbaugh took a swipe at his former rival, Ohio State’s Urban Meyer. Meyer retired last year after a winning season but one filled with controversy. Meyer was suspended for the first three games of the year due to a domestic violence allegation against one of his assistant coaches, then led his team to a 13-1 season and a Big Ten title. Meyer’s Ohio State also has a 4-0 winning record over Harbaugh. In an interview with The Athletic, Harbaugh said, “Urban Meyer’s had a winning record. A really phenomenal record everywhere he’s been. But also, controversy follows everywhere he’s been.”

Barkley Says Zion Out Of Shape, Rory McIlroy Quadruple-bogey 8

BASKETBALL

According to NBA Hall of Famer Charles Barkley, the #1 pick in the NBA draft Zion Williamson is out of shape. Zion’s former coach, Duke’s Mike Krzyzewski, also stated Williamson wasn’t in physical or mental shape and should have skipped playing in the NBA summer league. Williamson played nine minutes in the summer league for the New Orleans Pelicans then was pulled due to a minor injury. Barkeley told ESPN’s Get Up, “I was fat so I needed to lose weight. I don’t know what Zion’s perfect playing weight is going to be. I thought 300 was my perfect playing weight in college. I had to lose 50 pounds to become a Hall of Famer. I hear he weighs 280. He can’t play at 280 in the NBA. He can’t play at that weight, it’s too much stress on his knees. He’s so big and he’s so strong, but everybody in the NBA is big and strong.”

GOLF

Rory McIlroy was the fan-favorite to win the British Open this week, but after a quadruple-bogey 8 on the first hole, he’s likely out of contention.
