Ravens Weigh Kaepernick Option, More LaVar Drama, Kyrie Believes Earth is Flat

FOOTBALL

The Colin Kaepernick drama continues with the Balitmore Ravens weighing the potential downsides of signing Colin Kaepernick as another backup quarterback, while their starter Joe Flacco is recovering from back surgery. The team’s owner, Steve Bisciotti, has been consulting with current and former players in addition to fans and said,”I know that we’re going to upset some people, and I know that we’re going to make people happy that we stood up for somebody that has the right to do what he did. Non-violent protesting is something that we have all embraced. I don’t like the way he did it. Personally, I kind of liked it a lot when he went from sitting to kneeling. I don’t know, I’m Catholic, we spend a lot of time kneeling.”

The team is also considering signing former Cleveland Browns and Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III (RGIII). The Los Angeles Chargers were looking at RGIII as a backup to Philip Rivers, but then opted to sign former Buffalo Bill rookie (and Ohio State National Champion, QB Cardale Jones) instead.

BASKETBALL

LaVar Ball can’t stay away from controversy. According to reports, he “crossed the line” again in Las Vegas over the weekend when he berated a female referee who gave him a technical foul. He had her replaced mid-game, and the crowd went crazy upon hearing him claim she was “out of shape” and “should stay in her lane”.  The group that supplied the referees for the tournament was disappointed in how Adidas (the organizers) handled the issue and has now cut ties with the shoe company.

Kyrie Irving is still talking about leaving the Cleveland Cavaliers, but another story this week faults Kyrie for influencing middle school students’ belief that the earth is not round. According to Avi Wolfman-Arent from NPR, middle school teachers are having a hard time teaching because their students listen to Irving instead of actual science. One teacher commented, “Immediately I start to panic. How have I failed these kids so badly they think the Earth is flat just because a basketball player says it? They think that I’m part of this larger conspiracy of being a round-Earther. That’s definitely hard for me because it feels like science isn’t real to them.”

Odell Beckham Wants Highest Paid Player, Mallet Signed Over Kaepernick, USC No OJ

FOOTBALL

New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr announced on UNINTERRUPTED he wanted to be the highest paid player (not just the highest paid wide receiver) in the NFL. Odell is still working off of his 5 year rookie contract and will make $1.8 million this year and $8.4 million next year (his 5th year). This sum is significantly below other top receivers in the league.  Most of the top paid players in the league are quarterbacks with the Ravens Joe Flacco at the top with $24.55 million. The highest paid receiver this year is Dallas’ Dez Bryant at $17 million.

Speaking of Flacco, the Baltimore Ravens have seemingly opted out of signing Colin Kaepernick as a backup to an injured Flacco (missing a week due to back surgery). The team announced they were signing arena-league quarterback David Olson. Ryan Mallet is expected to immediately take over duties while Flacco is out, but Olson will have his shot at backup as well. Before transferring to Stanford, Olson played for Jim Harbaugh (the brother of Ravens’ coach John Harbaugh).

Former Heisman trophy winner and former Hall of Famer, OJ Simpson could be free from his recent jail sentence in October. OJ was once the most celebrated USC alumni, but now current USC coach Clay Helton said he wouldn’t allow OJ on the field. He stated, “Currently right now, what the USC administration and the athletic department have said is, no, O.J. will not be a part of our functions or invited.”

Flacco Back Issue, Kaep Possible Replacement, Jones Missing Diamond, Irving Ripped Ring, Irving Trade Talk

FOOTBALL

The Baltimore Ravens’ QB Joe Flacco will miss the start of training camp on Thursday. Reports differ on whether he’ll be out just one week or between three and six weeks due to a disk issue in his back. If he’s out for awhile, there’s now speculation on whether the team will look into signing former SF 49r Colin Kaepernick.  Kaepernick has been waiting all year to hear from an NFL team even though quarterbacks with lesser talent have been scooped up.

Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones hired a team of divers to try and find his diamond earring worth more than $100,000. Do find exquisite designs by visiting this innervisioncrystals.net/blogs/news/healing-properties-of-herkimer-diamond site. Jones lost his earring after hitting a wake while on his jet ski. According to the divers, it will be impossible to find.

In other missing jewelry news, Dallas Cowboys linebacker David Irving was searching for his missing nipple ring. During training camp, it was torn off of his body and now his nipple is ripped. Ouch!

BASKETBALL

The Cleveland Cavaliers held a press conference re-stating the team is “in charge”, but talk of a massive Kyrie Irving trade still appears to be in the works, causing many to wonder what the team is thinking about its superstars.

Whitehead Cleared Of Shoplifting Charge, Vick Summer Intern, Djokovic Elbow Injury

FOOTBALL

There has been drama unfolding in the Dallas Cowboys training camp. The shoplifting charge against Lucky Whitehead which caused the Cowboys to to release him, was dropped as it was a case of mistaken identity, but the Cowboys still stand behind their decision to release Whitehead indicating it was in the “best interest of the team.” The controversy surrounding this incident is causing many to question the teams’ decision making.

Former NFL quarterback Michael Vick has landed a job as a summer intern for the Kansas City Chiefs, working with his former Philadelphia Eagles coach, Andy Reid. Vick retired in June and stated he wants to ultimately continue his career as a head coach. “I would love to coach in the National Football League one day. At some point, I’d definitely love to help work with young quarterbacks and develop them and still compete, you know, with the team and with the coaches.”

TENNIS

Novak Djokovic announced he will miss the rest of the season as he’s suffering from an elbow injury. He will be ending his streak of participating in 51 straight Grand Slam tournaments.

Derrick Rose Signs With Cavs, Dallas Cowboys Off-Season Scandals

BASKETBALL

Derrick Rose agreed to sign a one-year contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers after his rocky season with the New York Knicks. The 2010-11 NBA MVP signed a league minimum salary of $2.1 million and will give the Cavs some star power in the backcourt if Kyrie Irving leaves the team. LeBron James went on social media saying “Let’s Rock G!!” to express his excitement about his new teammate!

FOOTBALL

The Dallas Cowboys just can’t seem to avoid off-season scandals. The latest incident involves receiver Lucky Whitehead who was arrested last month for shoplifting at a Wawa convenience store. Whitehead didn’t show up at his cout appearnance and even though he claims it was a case of mistaken identity, Cowboy coach, Jason Garrett, doesn’t want any more problems so released him from the team. He stated, “There’s a certain way we want to handle ourselves, on and off the field. There’s a standard that we have. We believe very strongly in adhering to those standards and trying to uphold them, each and every day, in everything that we do. When we don’t do that, we do everything we can as an organization to hold players and everyone in the organization accountable to what those standards are.” The Cowboys franchise is also dealing with domestic violence allegations against their star running back Ezekiel Elliott.

Jordan Spieth Wins British Open, Irving Seeking Trade, Gilbert’s Apology Over Detroit Ad

GOLF

Jordan Spieth won the British Open by shooting 5 under par in his final 5 holes. With the win, Spieth is celebrating his 3rd major grand slam title. At only 24 years old, Spieth is one of the favorites to win the 2017 PGA Championship.

BASKETBALL

Cleveland Cavaliers point guard, Kyrie Irving is seeking a trade for next season. According to reports, Kyrie doesn’t want to be in LeBron James’ shadow anymore and is interested in the San Antonio Spurs, the New York Knicks, Minnesota Timberwolves and Miami Heat.

In more Cleveland news, the owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers, Dan Gilbert (who also owns a Detroit real estate company), dealt with major backlash over the weekend when his company popted a sign in downtown Detroit stating, “See Detroit like we do”. The image in the ad only showed white people, while census data reflects the city as more than 82% black. Gilbert posted on Facebook his mistake and said, “Although not intended to create the kind of feelings it did, the slogan/statement we used on these graphics was tone deaf, in poor taste and does not reflect a single value of philosophy that we stand for at Bedrock Development or in our entire Family of companies.”

OJ Simpson Granted Parole, Huge Freeze Resignation After Escort Call

FOOTBALL

After serving for almost 9 years in prison for stolen sports memorabilia, OJ Simpson was granted parole and could be out of prison as early as October. Due to the continuing fascination with OJ, the parole hearing was broadcast live. Back in 1968, OJ won the Heisman trophy and then went on to become one of the most accomplished and recognizable running backs in the NFL. He had a Hollywood following and seemingly blessed career until his arrest in 1994 for allegedly killing his ex-wife and her friend. In a live court battle which mesmerized the entire nation, OJ was found not guilty. OJ is now 70 years old.

The big news out of the college football world is Ole Miss head football coach Hugh Freeze’s resignation. Freeze was initially caught calling an escort service (although he claims it was a wrong number), which led to an investigation into other transgressions. Why were people looking into Freeze’s phone records? Over the last few years, Freeze had been accused by the NCAA for paying players. When Freeze threw the blame on former coach Houston Nutt, Nutt fought back and asked investigators to look into Freeze’s phone records (where they uncovered the call to the escort service and led to more investigations).  According to reports from the school, the investigation led to “a pattern of personal conduct inconsistent with the standard of expectations for the leader of our football team.”

Chargers’ Williams Herniated Disk, KD Mision In India

FOOTBALL

The Los Angeles Chargers can’t seem to catch a break. Last season, the team was riddled with injuries, and this season may not be starting so well either. Their 1st round draft pick (at #7), Mike Williams, has a herniated disk and may need surgery. He’s had two epidurals so far and if he responds well, he may not need surgery, but as of now, he’s not expected to play during training camp.

BASKETBALL

The Championship Golden State Warriors’ Finals MVP, Kevin Durant, is planning a busy and fulfilling summer. He is heading to India where he’s on a mission to promote basketball. BASEBALL

Michael Vick Thinks Kaepernick Should Cut Hair, Manziel Wants Back In NFL

FOOTBALL

Michael Vick knows what it’s like to try and repair an image (he was arrested for dog fighting), and is now giving his unsolicited advice to former SF 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick. He believes Kaepernick hasn’t been picked up by an NFL team yet because of the controversy surrounding him last year (not standing for the National Anthem) and suggests Kaepernick cut his hair and look more “clean cut”. He said,

“The first thing we got to get Colin to do is cut his hair. Listen, I’m not up here to try to be politically correct, but even if he puts cornrows in it, I don’t think he should represent himself in that way in terms of just a hairstyle. Just go clean cut. Why not? You’re already dealing with a lot of controversy surrounding this issue. What he needs to do is just try to be presentable.”

Speaking of repairing reputations, former Cleveland Browns’ top pick, QB Johnny Manziel, admits he made mistakes (domestic violence, substance abuse) and wants to come back to the NFL. He said,  “I know the situation that I put myself in. I know the year I took off and obviously the mistakes that I made. Right now, I’m hopeful. I’m really hopeful,”Manziel said. “I think that I made some progress in that regard. But we’ll see. Whenever I get a call, I’ll do whatever I can to make the most of it.” Not “if” I get a call, but “whenever.” Seemingly, few people actually think Manziel will make a roster (especially before Kaepernick makes one), but you never know.
