Serena Withdraws From Wimbledon, Young & Antetokounmpo Injured, Hawks Even Series, Clippers/Suns Game 6
TENNIS
Serena Williams injured her ankle and had to withdraw from Wimbledon during her first-round match.
BASKETBALL
Injuries are playing a role in the NBA playoffs as well. Atlanta Hawks Trae Young did not play in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference finals against the Milwaukee Bucks and, in the third quarter, the Bucks Giannis Antetokounmpo hyperextended his knee and had to leave the game. The Hawks triumphed in a 110-88 win and were able to even the series 2-2 with Game 5 on Thursday.
The LA Clippers (without Kawhi Leonard and Serge Ibaka from injuries) and Phoenix Suns face off in L.A. Wed night for Game 6, with the Suns leading the series 3-2.

Trae Young Sprained Ankle, Middleton Propels Bucks, Suns Take 3-1 Lead, Controversy Over Kidd/Billups
BASKETBALL
Atlanta Hawks Trae Young sprained his ankle in a loss to the Milwaukee Bucks on Sunday. Late in the third quarter Young stepped on a referees foot and didn’t look  the same the rest of the game. He said his ankle is still sore and unsure how he he’ll feel for Game 4 on Tuesday night. Khris Middleton was the star of the game for the Bucks scoring 20 of his career high 38 points in the fourth quarter to help the Bucks go up 2-1 in the series.
In the Western Conference finals, the Phoenix Suns took a 3-1 series lead over the LA Clippers. The Clippers will try and avoid elimination on Monday in Game 5.
In other NBA news, there’s been some controversy over the recent reports that the Dallas Mavericks plan to hire Jason Kidd to be their next head coach, and the Portland Trail Blazers intend to hire Chauncey Billups. Both coaches have checkered pasts, with Kidd pleading guilty to spousal abuse in 2001, and Billups accused (but never charged) with rape in an incident in 1997.

In other NBA news, the Boston Celtics traded Kemba Walker (the 16th pick in the 2021 draft), and a 2025 second-round pick to the Oklahoma City Thunder for Al Horford, Moses Brown, and a second-round pick in the 2023 draft.

Naomi Osaka’s agent said she won’t be playing at Wimbledon but will play in the Tokyo Olympics
OTHER
Victoria’s Secret is looking to USWNT star Megan Rapinoe as well as six other successful women to help turn their image around. The seven women formed a group called the VS Collective and will appear in promotional ads for the company as well as advising them on content. The CEO of VS stated, “When the world was changing, we were too slow to respond, we needed to stop being about what men want and to be about what women want.”

The Atlanta Hawks miraculously came back from a 26-point deficit to win Game 5 over the Philadelphia 76ers in the Eastern Conference semifinals. Trae Young scored 39 points, and the Hawks are now up 3-2 in the series.
In the Western Conference semifinals, the LA Clippers (without Kawhi Leonard) took Game 5 from the Utah Jazz. The Clippers are up 3-2 in the series
SOCCER
Cristiano Ronaldo caused the market cap of Coca-Cola to drop $4 billion after he removed two bottles of coke from a podium before his press conference. Ronaldo then held up a water bottle and said “Aguaâ€.  Tom Brady commented saying athletes drink water not soda.

Kevin Durant Mesmerizes In Game 5 Win, Lillard & Green Commit To Tokyo Olympics, NFL Signs Diageo
BASKETBALL
Thanks to a stunning performance from Kevin Durant, the Brooklyn Nets defeated the Milwaukee Bucks and are now up 3-2 in the series. Durant played 48 minutes (every minute of the game) and put up 49 points, 17 rebounds, and 10 assists.
OLYMPICS
Portland Trail Blazers Damian Lillard and Golden State Warriors Draymond Green are the first NBA players to commit to playing for Team USA in the Tokyo Olympics.
FOOTBALL
For years the NFL had a ban on advertising liquor on its broadcast, but now, four years after lifting the ban, the League has signed its first official liquor sponsor, Diageo. The NFL requires liquor companies to have a social-responsibility message and not target underage drinkers.

Hawks/Clippers Even Series, NBA’s All Defensive First Team
BASKETBALL
Thanks to the stellar play of Trae Young, the Atlanta Hawks battled back in the second half of their duel with the Philadelphia 76ers to win game 4 and tie the series (2-2). Hawks 103, 76ers 100.
In the late game on Monday, the Los Angeles Clippers dominated the Utah Jazz midway through the first quarter and cruised to an easy victory. The series is now tied at 2-2. Clippers 118, Jazz 104.
In other NBA news, Utah’s Rudy Gobert, Philly’s Ben Simmons, Golden State’s Draymond Green, Milwaukee’s Jrue Holiday and Giannis Antetokounmpo were all selected for the NBA’s 2020-21 All-Defensive first team.

Becky Hammon/Dawn Staley Interviewing For Head Coach, Suns Sweep Nuggets, Irving Injured, Stanley Cup Semis, Playoff Committee Meets On Expansion, French Open Winners

Becky Hammon, Dawn Staley, Chauncey Billups, Brent Barry, and Mike D’Antoni are interviewing for the head coaching position for the Portland Trail Blazers. Hammon is the current assistant for the San Antonio Spurs. She is also expected to interview for the head coaching position with the Orlando Magic.
Thanks to Chris Paul’s 37 points, the Phoenix Suns swept the Denver Nuggets 4-0 to secure a spot in their first Western Conference Finals since 2010.
In other playoff news, Kyrie Irving had to leave Game 4 of the Nets/Bucks series due to a sprained ankle. The series is tied 2-2.

Nikola Jokić was named Most Valuable Player this season. He’s the first second-round draft pick to ever win the coveted award.
Rudy Gobert (nicknamed the Stifle Tower) won the Defensive Player of the Year award for the third time. He’s only the fourth player in NBA history to win this award at least three times.

New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso created a stir when asked his opinion on Major League Baseball cracking down on pitchers using foreign substances to juice balls. Alonso said he was “fine with pitchers using aids-but that the bigger issue is that MLB ‘manipulates the baseballs year in and year out, depending on free agency class.”

Based on geotagged Twitter data over the last month that included over 70,0oo tweets and hashtags, LeBron James was listed as the most hated player across multiple states. Sports Insider mapped out the areas of the country where players were most hated, and LeBron racked up 24 states while Kyrie Irving came in at 18 and James Harden at 3. Rounding out the map were Kevin Durant (3), Russell Westbrook (1), and Paul George (1).

BOXING
YouTube star Logan Paul lasted eight rounds with boxing legend Floyd Mayweather in a pay-per-view exhibition match at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami. The match was purely for entertainment, as there were no judges. Paul weighed in at 189.5 pounds and Mayweather clocked in at 155 pounds.
HORSE RACING
