Deshaun Watson Asks For Trade, Roethlisberger Willing To Take Pay Cut

FOOTBALL

Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson officially asked for a trade. Watson signed a four-year $156 million contract last September with a no-trade clause, which means the Texans can choose not to trade him, but that looks unlikely considering how vocal he’s been about his unhappiness with the organization’s hiring choices. Many are speculating that the Jets, Dolphins, Patriots, 49ers, and Panthers could be interested.

In other quarterback news, Pittsburgh Steelers’ quarterback Ben Roethlisberger stated he’s “pretty sure” he will return next season and if so is willing to do “everything” to make it work including taking a pay cut.

Texans Hire Culley, Eli Manning Back W/Giants, Heat Using COVID Sniffing Dogs

FOOTBALL

The Houston Texans hired former Baltimore Ravens coaching staff member David Culley to replace head coach Bill O’Brien.

Quarterback Eli Manning retired last season from the New York Giants, but after a year away from the team, it looks as if he’ll be back. He recently met with owner John Mara and expressed an interest in returning to the Club as an Ambassador/Mentor.

BASKETBALL

The Miami Heat will be using COVID-19-sniffing trained dogs to detect the virus in fans attending tonight’s game against the Clippers. 1500 season ticket holders will be attending the game at American Airlines Arena. Before entering the arena, the fans will have to go to a screening area. The detection dogs will walk past the people, and if the dog doesn’t stop then the fan is cleared to go, but if the dog sits, then the fan won’t be allowed into the game. According to a German study, the detection dogs had 94% accuracy in sniffing out the virus.

Jennifer King Makes History, No New Players In Hall Of Fame

FOOTBALL

A year after Jennifer King was brought in as an intern working with running backs, the Washington Football Team hired King as a full-time assistant running backs coach, making her the first full-time Black female coach in NFL history.

BASEBALL

For the ninth time in history, the Baseball Hall of Fame will not induct any new members for the 2021 class. Curt Schilling, Roger Clemens, and Barry Bonds received the top votes but did not reach the 75 percent threshold for induction. All three men have one more year of eligibility (players can only stay on the ballot for 10 years). Schilling aired his frustration with the HOF by publishing a letter asking to be removed from the 2022 ballot, saying “I will not participate in the final year of voting. I am requesting to be removed from the ballot. I’ll defer to the veterans committee and men whose opinions actually matter and who are in a position to actually judge a player. I don’t think I’m a hall of famer as I’ve often stated but if former players think I am then I’ll accept that with honor.”

Brady’s TB12 Diet, Magnus Carlsen Loses To 18 Yr Old, Mice At Australian Open

FOOTBALL

One of the topics of conversation leading up to the Super Bowl is the obvious comparison of how a 43-year old Tom Brady will fare against a 25-year-old Patrick Mahomes. In order to keep in peak physical condition, Brady swears by his TB12 diet. Check out CBS Sports’ Pete Blackburn attempting to live like Brady for a week.

CHESS

The best chess player in the world, Magnus Carlsen shockingly lost to 18-year old Andrey Esipenko at the Tata Steel Tournament. In a tweet after the match, Carlsen jokingly said, “Had a very unpleasant experience at the playing hall today, felt like a swab was being shoved into my nostril and all the way inside my brain, causing a lot of pain. Covid test after the game was not that bad though #TataSteelChess”

TENNIS

The 2021 Australian Open will begin on February 8th, but the players are already on-site due to quarantine protocols. Unfortunately, though, the accommodations are not ideal. Number 28th ranked Yulia Putintseva documented the mice problem in her hotel room, but rather than trying to solve the issue, local authorities are blaming the players for feeding the mice and contributing to the problem.

Brady Vs Mahomes In Super Bowl LV, Haskins Signs W/Steelers, Lions Release Stafford, Eagles Sign Sirianni As Head Coach

FOOTBALL

In the first playoff matchup on Sunday, Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers battled it out in a close game. Even though Brady threw for three interceptions, he also threw for 280 yards and three touchdowns to pull out a Tampa Bay win over the Green Bay Packers, 31-26. Brady advanced to his 10th Super Bowl appearance, twice as many as Hall of Fame quarterback John Elway (Denver Broncos). If anyone doubts that Brady is a good luck charm, just consider that since he signed with the Bucs, the Tampa Bay Rays, Tampa Bay Lightning, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have all made it to their respective championships.

In the second playoff game of the night, the Kansas City Chiefs, led by quarterback Patrick Mahomes, overpowered the Buffalo Bills 38-24. Mahomes looked dominant throwing for 325 yards and three touchdowns. Unfortunately, however, Mahomes blindside protector, offensive tackle Eric Fisher, suffered an Achilles injury and will be sidelined for the Championship game.

Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes‘ February 7th Super Bowl showdown will be exciting. They’ve met four times in close games with each winning twice.

In other NFL news, quarterback Dwayne Haskins, who was recently released from Washington, signed a one-year deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers. And, the Detroit Lions have released quarterback Matthew Stafford. No word yet on which team will pick him up.

The Philadelphia Eagles hired Indianapolis Colts offensive coordinator Nick Sirianni as their new head coach.

Bills Vs Kansas City & Packers Vs Buccaneers In AFC/NFC Championships, Jets Hire Saleh, Mets Fire GM

FOOTBALL

The AFC/NFC Championship games are set. The Buffalo Bills defeated the Baltimore Ravens 17-3 thanks in part to the momentum from cornerback Taron Johnson’s 101-yard interception return for a touchdown in the third quarter. With the win, the Bills advance to the AFC Championship game for the first time since the 1993 season.

The Bills will face the Kansas City Chiefs who defeated the Cleveland Browns in a game that came down to the last minute. When KC quarterback Patrick Mahomes went down with a concussion in the third quarter, fans were worried, but backup QB Chad Henne held his own to give the team a 22-17 victory.

Quarterback Aaron Rodgers looked spectacular in the Green Bay Packers 32-18 win over the Los Angeles Rams and will matchup against Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers next weekend. Tampa Bay’s defense overpowered New Orlean Saints quarterback Drew Brees and forced three interceptions on what will likely be the future hall of famer’s last game of his career. Tampa Bay 30, Saints 20

In a video that went viral, Brees’s son Baylen, came up to Brady after the game to toss a football.  Brady threw him the ball which he caught in the end zone. Brady jokingly said, “We could have used you tonight!” The video has more than 7 million views.

The New York Jets hired the San Francisco 49ers’ defensive coordinator Robert Saleh as their next head coach.

BASEBALL

The New York Mets fired general manager Jared Porter only a day after it was reported he sent explicit unsolicited sexual images and texts to a female reporter while he was working for the Chicago Cubs in 2016. According to new owner, Steve Cohen, “In my initial press conference I spoke about the importance of integrity and I meant it. There should be zero tolerance for this type of behavior.”

NHL Season Begins, 27 Players Already Test Positive, Harden’s Disappointment In Rockets

HOCKEY

The NHL is back tonight with a condensed 56-game season. The NHL plans to squeeze a total of 868 games into 116 nights. Unfortunately, the League is already off to a rough start with 27 confirmed players from nine different teams (17 from the Dallas Stars) testing positive for COVID-19.

BASKETBALL

James Harden did not shy away from airing his disappointment in his team, the Houston Rockets, on Tuesday night. After a decisive loss to the LA Lakers, Harden said in his postgame press conference, “We’re just not good enough. Chemistry, talent-wise, everything. It’s clear … I love this city. I’ve literally done everything I can. This situation … it’s crazy. I don’t think it can be fixed. Thanks.” He then abruptly left. His teammates were not happy. John Wall said, “When you have certain guys in the mix that don’t want to buy in as one, it’s gonna be hard to do anything special as a basketball team … It hurts. If we can all get on the same page, we can be something good here. We can’t dwell down on it because it’s only been nine games. Come on, man. You’re going to jump off the cliff off of nine games? There’s a lot of basketball still to be played.”
