Tim Tebow Tries To Make Eagles, Winston And Mariota’s Debut, No Participation Trophies, Jason Day Wins P.G.A. Championship

Tim TebowIn the NFL, with the pre-season fully underway, all eyes were on not the best player in the NFL, but the nicest.  Yep, Tim Tebow made his comeback to the league this weekend with the Philadelphia Eagles.  He wasn’t great, but he wasn’t terrible either.  He went 6 for 12 and even had a touchdown rush.  Tebow is trying as hard as he can to make the team, and it’s looking like he has a 50/50 shot.

Elsewhere in the NFL, we witnessed the debut performances from the #1 and #2 draft pics this year (Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota).  Mariota did not look good, turning the ball over in each of his first two possessions.  Winston had a beautiful deep first pass, but the rest of his debut was lackluster.  Despite these first impressions, we can’t write them off.  They’re still getting their feet wet, and their second game could tell a completely different story.

edb7313e8aca9d18ec2b060f7f53c19a 2Steelers’ linebacker, James Harrison, arguably the toughest guy in the NFL, has decided to have his kids give back their little league participation trophies.  Harrison said he didn’t want his kids to get trophies just for showing up — that if they wanted a trophy they would have to earn it.  He wants them to understand that you don’t get anything in life unless you work for it.

Jason Day won the P.G.A Championship this weekend with a record 20 under par beating Jordan Spieth by 3 strokes. All was not lost for Spieth, however, as his 2nd place finish combined with Rory McIlroy dropping to 17th place, gave Spieth the ranking of #1 golfer in the world.  This is a remarkable feat given that Spieth is only 22 years old.
