Strickland And Harper Suspended, French Open Player Banned

BASEBALL

In an emotionally charged game Monday night between the Washington Nationals and the San Francisco Giants, Hunter Strickland and Bryce Harper received 6 game and 4 game suspensions. Harper believed Strickland intended to hit him with a fastball so charged the mound and punched Strickland in the head. Apparently the bad blood goes back to 2014 when Harper hit two home runs against Strickland in the National League Division Series. Both players will appeal the suspension.

TENNIS

French Open player Maxime Hamou was banned from the tournament after he forcibly tried to kiss reporter Maly Thomas. Thomas said, “If I hadn’t been live on air, I would have punched him.” Hamou has since apologized for his behavior.

BASKETBALL

The Cleveland Cavaliers eliminated the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference Finals. The Cavs were determined to close out this series. LeBron brought his “A” game and made history by surpassing Michael Jordan for most career points in the playoffs. The rumor mill has Lonzo Ball, considered one of the top picks in the NBA draft, potentially working out with the Philadelphia 76ers before the June 22nd draft. The Boston Celtics have the first pick in the draft, the Los Angeles Lakers the second with Philly picking third. Lonzo has already declined to work out with Boston, and Lonzo’s controversial Dad, LaVar, stated he only wants his son to play for the Lakers, so it will be interesting to see how this develops.

FOOTBALL

NY Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr signed the largest shoe contract Nike has ever offered a football player.  It’s reported he’ll make $29 million over 5 years. While this is a huge amount for football, the shoe contracts for NBA players are much higher. All-star LeBron James reportedly has a $1 billion lifetime contract with Nike.

New England Patriots Rob Gronkowski is known as one of QB Tom Brady’s favorite target on the field and a guy who seems to enjoy life to the fullest off the field. In his latest endeavor, he’s starring in  3LAU’s “On My Mind” music video.

BASKETBALL

LaVar Ball is making headlines again with his “Stay In Yo Lane” t-shirts. The shirts sell for between $50-$60. The phrase came about after his comments during an interview with Fox Sports’ Kristine Leahy.

Goodell Loosens TD Celebrations, Kyrie Helps Cavs Win Game 4, Rashad Jennings Wins DWTS

FOOTBALL

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell announced a loosening of rules to allow for more touchdown celebrations. Players can use the ball as a prop, make snow angels on the ground and celebrate in groups, but still can’t embarrass opponents or pretend to use a weapon. Goodell said, “We know that you love the spontaneous displays of emotion that come after a spectacular touchdown. And players have told us they want more freedom to be able to express themselves.”

I love that Goodell even mentioned the Key and Peele sketch with Hingle McCringleberry’s excessive celebration. He tweeted, “Don’t get any ideas about pumps @KeeganMKey – they’re still not OK under the new policy .” Goodell also announced the NFL would shorten overtime.

BASKETBALL

The Cleveland Cavaliers took a 3-1 lead over the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference Finals thanks to Kyrie Irving. LeBron James got into some foul trouble in the first half, but Kyrie stepped up with a huge 42 points. As Irving put it, “You almost hit the … runner’s high. Where you get so juiced up when you see a few shots going in and then you feel emotion kind of take over. … That’s an incredible zone to be in, which I was tonight.” Cleveland could put the series away in game 5 Thursday night 8:30 pm in Boston. Cavs 112, Celtics 99.

OTHER

Former NY Giants NFL running back and current free agent, Rashad Jennings, edged out former Chicago Cubs catcher David Ross to become the newest “Dancing with the Stars” winner. Jennings said he has no doubt he’ll be back on an NFL team, but will continue his cardio while training for the “Dancing with the Stars live tour”.

Bradley’s Winning Shot Beats Cavs, Warriors On Roll, Zaza Extra Security, Cloud Computing

BASKETBALL

Cleveland Cavaliers have been cruising through the playoffs with a 13 game wining streak. The Cavs looked like they would sail through game 3 as well. They were up 21 points Sunday night against the Boston Celtics, who were without star Isaiah Thomas, but they let down their guard too soon, and the Celtics fought back. At the last second, the Celtics’ Avery Bradley shot a 3 pointer to seal the win and stun the Cavs. Game 4 is Tuesday night in Cleveland. Celtics 111, Cavaliers 108.

In the Western Conference finals, the Golden State Warriors are up 3-0 against the San Antonio Spurs and look unstoppable. Unfortunately for the Spurs, the series could have been more competitive if their team was at full strength. Playing without an injured Tony Parker and Kawhi Leonard, the Spurs chances at a comeback look pretty bleak. Game 4 is Monday night 9:00 pm EST.

Spurs Coach Gregg Popovich created some drama when he accused the Warriors’ Zaza Pachulia of purposely tripping Kawhi (who is listed as questionable for game 4). Zaza said he is fine with the negative attention, but the threats against him on social media have gotten so bad, he had to hire extra security at his children’s school.

HORSE RACING

There will be no Triple Crown winner this year as Cloud Computing beat out Derby winner Always Dreaming in the Preakness Stakes over the weekend.

BASKETBALL

The NBA released its list of All-NBA players on Thursday. LeBron James made the First Team again for the 11th time in his career. For a list of the all three Teams, click here.

Cavs Stomp Celtics In Game 1, LaVar Ball Wants $3Bill, Gisele Talks Brady Concussions

BASKETBALL

A well-rested Cleveland Cavaliers stomped the Boston Celtics on the road in game one of the Eastern Conference finals. LeBron James added 38 points and looked unstoppable, while Kevin Love and Tristan Thompson had career high postseason 32 points, 12 rebounds and 20 points, nine rebounds respectively. Cavs 117, Celtics 104.

The highly controversial LaVar Ball is now saying he wants $3 Billion for his shoe company, Big Baller Brand.  Fox reporter Kristine Leahy, who’s already had a run in with LaVar, mentioned he would need to market to women if he wants his company to be successful. LaVar dismissed the idea then later verbally attacked Leahy and said, “I never disrespect women, but I tell you what, if you act like that, something’s coming to you and it’s OK.” LaVar also told Fox’s Colin Cowherd, he wants his son Lonzo to play for the Lakers (who have the #2 pick in the draft).

FOOTBALL

In an interview with Charlie Rose, Gisele Bundchen mentioned hubby Tom Brady had a concussion last year he never reported to the team. In fact, Gisele not only said he had a concussion, but had concussions (plural) over the years. Brady hasn’t missed playing a game since 2008, so the report he’s had a head injury (injuries) is something the NFL and NFL Players Association will look into.
