Falcons Close Win Over Eagles, 49ers Surprise Win Over Vikings, Johnny Football Shows Promise

FOOTBALL

In Monday Night Football, we got a double header.  First up, it was time for the Philadelphia Eagles to unleash their explosive offense against the Atlanta Falcons. The Falcons, however, have their own explosive offense with wide receiver Julio Jones.  The Falcons struck first and owned the first half.   Finally, Chip Kelly’s offense showed up, and the Eagles came soaring back.  In the end, the Falcons got an interception and won the game. The Eagles looked solid in the 2nd half, though and you can bet they will come back strong next week.  Atlanta 26, Philadelphia 24.

Next up, it was the Minnesota Vikings v the San Francisco 49ers.  The Niners had a dreadful off-season, losing much of their defense for one reason or another (free agency, arrests, DUIs, etc.)  Everyone (including myself) was writing them off before the season even started.  Meanwhile, the Vikings seemed fully loaded and ready to roll with a healthy Adrian Peterson.  We were all wrong! The Niners looked steady and seem to have an incredible weapon with running back Carlos Hyde (from Ohio State).  The Vikings and Peterson, however, couldn’t get anything going and the Niners ran away with the win.  San Francisco 20, Minnesota 3.

Finally, even though QB Johnny Manziel played less than perfect last week against the Jets, the Browns are looking on the bright side.  Manziel came into the game after Josh McCown got hurt on a crazy attempt to run for a touchdown.  Manziel made an immediate impact with a touchdown to Travis Benjamin. Unfortunately, all went downhill from there for Manziel but the Browns still feel Manziel shows promise.  He picks up yards while running but also tends to fumble.  The Johnny Football experiment will go on, and is developing into kind of an underdog story.
