Bills Overpower Colts, Carrols Odd Play In Overtime, Winston/Mariota Showdown, Djokovic Wins US Open

FOOTBALL

NFL on Sunday is back!  And, the games did not disappoint
In Buffalo, the Bills were looking to prove that they are a defensive force, but they had to take on one of the most explosive offenses of last season:  Andrew Luck and the Indianapolis Colts.  Buffalo came out strong and the Colts could not get anything going.  Bills fans went crazy, as their team looked tough and their young quarterback, Tyrod Taylor helped guide the Bills to an impressive opening day victory.  Buffalo 27, Indianapolis 14.

In St. Louis, the Rams were out to prove that they had no intention of being pushovers but their game on Sunday was against the mighty Seattle Seahawks. The Rams got out to a sizable lead, but then the Rams’ offense made some mistakes and the Seahawks put up quick points to send the game into overtime.  We all remember Seattle head coach Pete Carroll’s peculiar play call that lost them the Super Bowl last season.  He did it again as he called an onside kick to start overtime.  The Rams recovered and were able to get a field goal that gave them the advantage, and the momentum to stop Seattle and take the victory.  Watch out for St. Louis this season.  St. Louis 34, Seattle 31.

Marcus Mariota & Jameis WinstonIn Tampa Bay, we saw the battle between the #1 overall draft pick, Jameis Winston of the Buccaneers, and the #2 overall draft pick, Marcus Mariota of the Tennessee Titans.  Mariota was breathtaking.  He threw 4 touchdown passes in JUST THE FIRST HALF!  Unfortunately Jameis Winston did not fare so well. On his very first NFL career throw, he threw an interception that was picked off for a touchdown.  The only other QB in the history of the NFL to do that was Brett Favre (who ended up with a Hall of Fame career).  The Titans overwhelmed the Buccaneers for a decisive victory. Tennessee 42, Tampa Bay 14.

TENNIS

The Men’s US Open final featured Novak Djokovic vs. Roger Federer.  Once again, Djokovic proved that he is the best in the game.  He defeated Federer for his 10th grand slam title of his brilliant career.
