Tom Brady To Play In Opener, Tebow Time In Philly, TCU Opener Not To Par, Harbaughs Debut

FOOTBALL

Tom BradyIn the big news of the day, a federal judge dismissed New England QB Tom Brady’s four game suspension.  The judge noted that NFL Commissioner had ” cited his own brand of justice” and “Brady had no notice that he could receive a four-game suspension for general awareness of ball deflation by others,” and therefore the punishment did not fit the potential crime. The NFL stated they will appeal the decision but as for now, Brady is free to play in the season opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers on September 10th. Not surprisingly the Patriots went from 3 point favorites to 6.5 point favorites in the game.

In other NFL news, we’ve entered into the final pre-season games and all eyes are on Tim Tebow.  Will he get another shot to make an NFL roster?  This is his last chance.  Tebow played well in the Eagles last pre-season game against the New York Jets.  He even tossed 2 touchdown passes.  When asked, however,  whether Tebow thought he did well enough to make the team, he responded, “I’m not gonna worry about what I can’t control”.  We will know soon whether Tebow makes the squad.  NY Jets 24, Philadelphia 18.

The college football season officially kicked off as on Thursday.  One of the marquee matchups featured #2 TCU, who hopes to make a title run this year.  They are led by likely Heisman candidate Trevone Boykin.  TCU got by Minnesota in their opener, but not without a struggle. They are going to have to work out a lot of bugs if they hope to make a title run this year.  TCU 24, Minnesota 18.

And finally, the major marquee matchup of the night was Michigan against Utah.  It was the debut of new Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh. Harbaugh used to play QB for Michigan in the late 1980s, and then became an NFL coach with the 49ers.  His decision to rejoin the college ranks shocked many, especially because he was a successful NFL coach.  Turning around a college program usually takes a few years. The coach needs to attract and then train quality recruits. Harbaugh wasn’t expected to turn Michigan around immediately but his fans were still hoping for miracles.  Unfortunately Michigan fell to an impressive Utah team Thursday night. Utah 24, Michigan 17.
