Dez And Demaryius Sign Long Term Deals, Giants Don’t Sign Jason Pierre-Paul, Jenner At Espy’s

FOOTBALL

In the NFL, two superstar wide receivers, Dez Bryant and Demaryius Thomas, have been holding out all off-season, demanding long-term contracts.  Wednesday was the deadline to sign these players or potentially lose them to free agency.  Both players wanted big, long deals, and were threatening to miss games.  And at the end of the day, both of them won. Bryant is staying with the Dallas Cowboys and Thomas will remain a Denver Bronco.  Both signed 5-year $70 million deals. Losing Bryant or Thomas would have been a huge setback for both teams.

While Bryant and Thomas got their deals, Jason Pierre-Paul of the Giants did not.  The reason, as you may recall, was Pierre-Paul lost a finger in a fireworks accident.  He had a chance to sign a lucrative deal, but Pierre-Paul decided to hold out for a better option.  Unfortunately for him,  that option didn’t come.  It is possible the Giants may be moving on without JPP.   Not signing JPP could  be a big loss for the Team, but not having an index finger can potentially affect someone’s game — especially because he needs to grab the quarterback.

JennerAt the ESPYs Wednesday night, everyone was looking forward to the Arthur Ashe Courage Award.  Last year, the award went to ESPN Anchor Stuart Scott, who died from cancer shortly after.  This years’s award went to Caitlyn Jenner.  There was a piece on Jenner that profiled his remarkable athletic achievements in the late 70s, and showed the anguish that he went through in his transformation in becoming a woman. Jenner addressed the audience saying “Trans people deserve your respect.”
