Giants Advance To Take On Nationals, LeBron Pre-Season Debut, Larry Donnell benches Larry Donnell

BASEBALL

After a thrilling night of the American Wild Card game between the Oakland Athletics and the Kansas City Royals, baseball fans were ready for another nail biter in the National League between the San Francisco Giants and the Pittsburgh Pirates.  The Pirates have been red hot down the stretch this season, and played so well that they were able to secure home field advantage for this game.  And playing in front of a raucous Pittsburgh crowd is anything but easy.  The Giants, however,  came prepared, and absolutely shut down the Pirates.  Madison Bumgarner gave a brilliant pitching performance for the win.  The Giants now advance to take on the Washington Nationals.  San Francisco 8, Pittsburgh 0.

BASKETBALL

Lebron JamesIn the NBA, pre-season scrimmages usually aren’t much of a big deal.  But the first scrimmage for the Cleveland Cavaliers this season was a HUGE deal.  Why?  Well, they got to see the debut of their returning hometown superstar hero LeBron James, and the debut of their new all-star Kevin Love.  This was the first time they saw these guys in the same uniform, playing together.  The tickets to this game were free, but it was a completely full house.  You would have thought this was a regular season game.  Cavs fans are super pumped about this year.

FOOTBALL

Finally, in some fantasy football news, if you were lucky enough last week to add New York Giants tight end Larry Donnell to your starting line-up, you were one happy bird.  Donnell had 3 surprise touchdowns in the game, and helped put a lot of fantasy teams over the top.  But, one guy didn’t start Larry Donnell last week… Larry Donnell.  Yep, Donnell plays fantasy football, and opted to bench himself in favor of 49ers tight end Vernon Davis.  He must have thought he didn’t have a shot to get many targets.  What a blunder on Donnell’s part.
