U.S. Women Mesmerize The World With World Cup Victory, Clippers Sign Leonard & George, Coco Talk Of Wimbledon

SOCCER

The U.S. dominated the Netherlands to win the Women’s World Cup title on Sunday. It’s their 4th World Cup title and their second in a row. And with 26 goals in the tournament, they set a World Cup record. These women mesmerized the world with their stellar play and their enthusiastic celebrations. If that wasn’t enough, they were dominating their opponents while in the midst of a lawsuit over gender bias and equal pay. Outspoken Megan Rapinoe won the Golden Ball for the tournament’s best player and the Golden Boot as the top scorer. Shortly after the win, Nike celebrated these amazing athletes with a powerful ad ending with the tag line, “This team wins. Everyone wins.”

BASKETBALL

The Los Angeles Clippers made a splash over the weekend by announcing their signing of Kawhi Leonard to a 4-year $141 millions deal while also acquiring Paul George for two players and 5 first round picks.

TENNIS

The big story at Wimbledon this week was 15-year old Coco Gauff who beat her idol Venus Williams in the first round.  After her victory over her idol and becoming the talk of the tournament, Gauff kept her composure, continued winning, and is now the youngest player to advance to the round of 16 in this tournament since 1991 when a then 15-year old Jennifer Capriati made the semifinals.
