Pete Alonso Won Home Run Derby, Coco’s Run Over, Serena Fined $10K

New York Mets rookie first baseman Pete Alonso won the 2019 Home Run Derby. He’s the second rookie to win the Home Run Derby outright and only the second Mets player to win.  He faced Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (who had to endure three tie-breakers in the second round before moving on) in the Finals. Alonso will take home $1 million dollars for the win.

15 year old Coco Gauff’s amazing run at Wimbledon is over as she lost in the fourth round to Simona Halep. In other Wimbledon news, Serena Williams has been fined $10,000 for damaging a court with her racket during practice. The All England Club also fined Fabio Fognini $3000 for saying he wished a bomb would hit Wimbledon, and Nick Kyrgios $8000 in total for unsportsmanlike conduct in his first and second rounds.
