BASEBALL

Madison BumgarnerThe National League wild card game was a defensive battle until the 9th inning when Connor Gillaspie hit a 3 run homer off of the Mets closer Jeurys Familia to give the SF Giants the lead and the win. The true hero of the game was Giants pitcher Madison Bumgarner who showed once again how critical he is in October when each and every game is on the line. In fact, according to ESPN, he holds the record for zero runs in 23 innings on the mound in winner-take-all games. The Giants will now head to Chicago to take on the Chicago Cubs in the National League Division Series. Friday, October 7th.

In other baseball news, the Toronto Blue Jays and Texas Rangers face off today at 4:30 pm ET for the first game in the American League Division Series, while the Boston Red Sox and the Cleveland Indians play at 8:00 pm tonight in the other ALDS game 1.

FOOTBALL

screen-shot-2016-10-06-at-9-04-55-amFor anyone with children who play sports (especially football), you’ll understand these parents’ concerns. Opponents of Archbishop Murphy high school in Everett Washington are refusing to play their scheduled football games against the team. Parents and coaches are concerned because Archbishop Murphy has 3 players weighing over 300 pounds and 6 players weighing over 250 pounds. One mom stated, “My son is 5-8 and weighs 117 pounds and just got out of middle school and just turned 14. They’ve got 18-year-old players that are 6-5 and weigh 330 pounds. I mean, that’s like putting a Volkswagen bug against a Mack truck.”
