Broncos Lose To Bengals, Manziel Out For Season, Pistons Waive Smith

FOOTBALL

In the NFL, it was Monday Night Football between the Denver Broncos and the Cincinnati Bengals.  The Broncos needed a win if they wanted to have a shot at home field advantage.  The Bengals needed a win if they wanted to keep their playoff hopes alive.  Plus, for what it’s worth, it was the week for fantasy football championships in most leagues, and there were many star players involved (e.g Peyton Manning,Demaryius Thomas, Julius Thomas, AJ Green, and Jeremy Hill).  The Bengals started off hot, and the Broncos didn’t look so great.  But in the second half, the Broncos came storming back.  It looked like they were going to take the game, but the Bengals gave it one last effort and got the important win.  The Broncos have to really assess things, because they do not seem Super Bowl perfect right now.  Cincinnati 37, Denver 28.

Johnny ManzielElsewhere, it looks like the Johnny Manziel rookie era in the NFL came and went.  Against the Panthers, Manziel suffered an injury, and now it is being reported that Manziel is out for the season.  The Browns were hoping to use these last few games as an audition for Johnny Manziel’s pro football career, and now they won’t get another chance to look at him.  The Browns now need to decide this off season whether they want to keep Manziel and give him a shot as their franchise QB, even though he has not looked good as a pro, or if they want to take a chance on another hot rookie or free agent.  Perhaps Jay Cutler will be available.

BASKETBALL

And in the NBA, the Detroit Pistons have decided to waive veteran forward Josh Smith.  They said that the team has not performed to their expectations throughout the first third of the season, and now they are shifting direction to focus on the younger players.  Smith is not part of that plan, even though they still owe him $26 million.  If you read between the lines, Smith is driving them crazy and they don’t want him around.  If he clears waivers in the next 48 hours, he will be very in demand as an important piece to a championship puzzle.
