Atlanta And Carolina Continue NFC South Battle, Jets Not Enough Agst Pats, Seahawks D Serious Threat

FOOTBALL

In the NFL, the battle for first place in the NFC South is a close one, and it’s crazy that one of these not so great teams will get to host a first round playoff game.  The New Orleans Saints took on the Atlanta Falcons in New Orleans, and the Saints were looking to keep their hopes alive.  But, the Falcons came in full steam ahead and trounced the Saints, effectively eliminating them from the playoffs.  Then, over in Carolina, the Carolina Panthers eeked by a struggling Cleveland Browns team.  This now sets up a “playoff” game next week when the Falcons take on the Panthers for the right to host a first round actual playoff game.  Atlanta 30, New Orleans 14.  Carolina 17, Cleveland 13.

Tom BradyIn New York, the Jets have had a terrible season, one that will likely result in the firing of their head coach Rex Ryan.  So you knew that they would treat this home game against their rival, the New England Patriots, like the Super Bowl.  The Jets looked pretty decent in the first half, completely containing Tom Brady, and even taking the lead at one point.  But, the Patriots did just enough in the second half to get the job done, and hang on to their home field advantage position for now.  New England 17, NY Jets 16.

Finally, in Arizona, the Seattle Seahawks came to town looking for the opportunity to win the NFC West division.  Arizona, on the other hand, were also trying to win their division, and potentially get home field advantage for the playoffs.  Plus, the Super Bowl is in Arizona this year, so they would be the first team to host and play in a Super Bowl.  Unfortunately for the Cardinals, Marshawn Lynch and the Seattle Seahawks defense are just too strong.  It’s hard for anybody to do much against the Seattle D now, because they are finally back to full health.  They have all their top guys back, and this is one incredibly talented unit.  They are a serious Super Bowl threat.  Seattle 35, Arizona 6.
