WATERCOOLER CHAT: DWIGHT HOWARD BACK AND TRASH TALKS MAGIC, BILLS LOOK FOR FRESH START, DOLPHINS SIGN WALLACE

BASKETBALL

In the NBA, Tuesday saw the return of Dwight Howard to Orlando.  Dwight played his first 7 years in Orlando, but they definitely were not happy to see him back in Laker purple in gold.  Plus, Dwight made some very offensive comments to the media about his former team.  He said that Orlando was full of players that nobody else wanted.  Plus, in regards to his (former) friend, Magic point-guard Jameer Nelson, Howard mentioned to the media that he always wondered what it would be like to play with a “real” point guard like Chris Paul.  Now that’s a slap in the face.  Unfortunately for the Magic and their fans, they wouldn’t get their revenge, as the Lakers routed the Magic thanks to a 39-point night from Howard.  He was unstoppable out there.  With the win, the Lakers hold on to their playoff spot.  LA Lakers 106, Orlando 97.

FOOTBALL

And in the NFL, it was the beginning of free agency.  That meant that teams would not only start signing players, but also making cuts.  In some surprises, the Buffalo Bills parted ways with their starting quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick.  The Bills thought they had an answer with the Harvard-alum and signed him to a nice deal, but once Fitzpatrick got the money, he wasn’t very productive.  It’s likely the Bills will grab a quarterback with their first round pick, possibly Geno Smith from West Virginia.  Additionally, the Philadelphia Eagles cut cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha.  Asomugha was supposed to be their franchise cornerback, but completely underperformed under Andy Reid.  They are looking to start fresh, and he isn’t part of their plans.

But the big signing of the day came out of Miami, as the Dolphins inked former Steelers star wide-receiver Mike Wallace to a 5-year deal.  Wallace is the perfect fit in Miami, and will give their rising star quarterback, Ryan Tannehill, an explosive down the field weapon to throw too.  Plus, it’s likely that the Dolphins will snatch some young, speedy receivers in the draft to give Tannehill even more options.  The Dolphins intend to be a serious contender in the AFC East next year.
