NFL Combine And Odd Questions, Foles Expected To Sign With Jaguars

FOOTBALL

Every February, the NFL holds a week-long scouting combine where they evaluate the top college prospects in the country. Over 300 athletes received invitations to come to Indianapolis February 26th-March 4th to perform physical and mental tests to evaluate their abilities and readiness for the NFL draft in April. The Combine is considered a 4-day interview for athletes to showcase their strengths and can either increase or decrease their draft-stock. One of the highlights from the week included the extraordinary performance of 6-6, 260-pound defensive lineman from Mississippi State, Montez Sweat. Sweat ran the 40-yard dash in 4.41 seconds, setting an NFL Combine record for a defensive lineman.  In addition to evaluating physical feats, the personnel conduct interviews to assess the player’s personalities. These questions can get very odd. For example, Texas cornerback Kris Boyd said he was asked if he has both of his testicles. And, apparently, the Seattle Seahawks are known for asking players to compete in a staring contest.  One of the main questions at the Combine is whether Ohio State’s 6’3″ 230ish lbs Dwayne Haskins is a higher quarterback prospect than Oklahoma’s 5′ 10″ 200ish lbs Kyler Murray.

In other NFL news, the Jacksonville Jaguars are expected to sign former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Nick Foles once free agency opens up on March 13th.
