Ortiz In Hall Of Fame, Bonds/Clemens Don’t Make Cut, Payton Leaving Saints, Chiefs Donate To Buffalo Hospital Commemorating 13 Seconds

BASEBALL

David Ortiz (Big Papi) was the only player (out of 30) elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame this year. Even though Ortiz tested positive for steroids in 2003, he got 77.9% of the vote (above the 75% threshold for induction). Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens did not get the same leeway and were denied Cooperstown for their 10th and last opportunity.

FOOTBALL

Sean Payton announced he is leaving as head coach of the New Orleans Saints saying he’ll consider returning to coaching in the future or possibly taking a role as a television a analyst.

Kansas City Chiefs fans have been making $13 donations to the John R. Oishei Children’s Hospital of Buffalo to commemorate the 13 seconds Chiefs’ QB Patrick Mahomes took to tie the divisional playoff game against the Bills on Sunday. The Chiefs went on to win in overtime. Even though it’s a dig at the Bills, the hospital is thrilled to have received more than $80,000.
