Falcons Beat Panthers On TNF, Gurley Needs Head In Game, Trevor Lawrence Tests Positive, White Sox Hire Tony La Russa

FOOTBALL

The Atlanta Falcons beat the Carolina Panthers 25-17 on Thursday Night Football. Atlanta running back Todd Gurley almost made another late-game error (see last week’s game against the Detroit Lions) that could have cost his team another loss. With just over three minutes left in the 4th quarter, Atlanta was trying to run out the clock. Gurley got the ball, but instead of staying in bounds to take time off the clock, he ran out of bounds to avoid contact. Thankfully for Gurley and the Falcons, the Panthers couldn’t put together a winning drive.  After starting the season 0-5, Atlanta has now won two of their last three games.

In college football news, Clemson quarterback and Heisman Trophy favorite Trevor Lawrence tested positive for COVID-19 and will miss Saturday’s game against Boston College. He may also miss next week’s matchup against Notre Dame.

BASEBALL

The Chicago White Sox hired 76-year-old Tony La Russa as their new manager. La Russa is the third-winningest manager in baseball history. He’s also in the Baseball Hall of Fame.
