Astros Momentum In Win Over Royals, Rangers Over Blue Jays, Hasselbeck Leads Colts

BASEBALL

The Houston Astros were coming off a big wild card win over the New York Yankees and they brought that momentum into their first game against the Kansas City Royals on Thursday. The Astros now have a 1-0 lead in the series.  Johnny Cueto will take the mound for the Royals in game 2 Friday afternoon. He was acquired in late July for just this kind of pressure game. Expect an exciting game 2. Houston 5, Kansas City 2.
Elsewhere in the baseball playoffs, Toronto fans had high hopes going into the post-season, but on Thursday they took on the visiting Texas Rangers who looked primed for the post season.  Yovani Gallardo gave a solid pitching performance for the Rangers, and Texas now leads 1-0 in the 5 game series.  The Blue Jays better hope their bats show up for Game 2.  Texas 5, Toronto 3.

FOOTBALL

Matt Hasselbeck In the NFL, it was Thursday Night Football between the Indianapolis Colts and the Houston Texans.  Just before the game, the Colts announced they would be without Andrew Luck for the second straight week, and would have to turn to 40-year old Matt Hasselbeck for the road game in Houston.  The Texans, however, had to jockey between two of their quarterbacks and seemed incapable of doing anything special. Hasselbeck, on the other hand, had a very nice game throwing for two touchdowns and leading the Colts to victory.  The Colts are now 2-0 with Hasselbeck under center.  Indianapolis 27, Houston 20.
