Rich Strike Wins Derby, Boehly Buys Chelsea, Sixers/Mavericks Even Series, Verstappen Wins FI

In the 148th running of the Kentucky Derby, Rich Strike (who wasn’t even eligible to run until Friday morning) won at 80-1 odds. It was the second-biggest upset in Derby history with a payout of $163.60 on a $2 bet.

SOCCER

A group of investors led by Todd Boehly edged out the other bidders to buy Chelsea FC for $3.1 billion, setting a new record. Steve Cohen, who bought the Mets in 2020 held the previous record when he spent $2.4 billion.

BASKETBALL

With Joel Embiid back after sitting out due to injury, the Philadelphia 76ers won games 3 and 4 to even the series with the Miami Heat.

The Dallas Mavericks also evened the series with the Phoenix Suns after winning games 3 and 4. Luka Dončić has now scored 655 points in his first 20 playoff games. The only other players to accomplish this feat is Michael Jordan (718) and Wilt Chamberlain (705).

The Milwaukee Bucks are up 2-1 vs the Boston Celtics and the Golden State Warriors are up 2-1 on the Memphis Grizzlies.

FORMULA 1

In the inaugural Miami Grand Prix, Max Verstappen (Red Bull) held off Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) for the win.
