Antonio Brown Trade To Raiders, Bell Also Expected To Leave, Devin Booker’s Game High Scoring Beats Warriors

FOOTBALL

The Pittsburgh Steelers agreed to trade their star receiver Antonio Brown (caught 100 passes in 6 consecutive seasons) to the Oakland Raiders. The deal becomes official on Wednesday at 4:00 pm when the new league years begins. The Steelers star running back Le’Veon Bell is also expected to leave the team to free agency after refusing to play in 2018 on a franchise tag. It’s not clear whether the Steelers will be better off without their two star players who were vocally unhappy.

BASKETBALL

The Golden State Warriors were up by 16 points against the Phoenix Suns (who hadn’t beaten the Warriors since November 9th, 2014), but couldn’t hold on to the lead and lost at home 111-115. The Suns can thank Devin Booker who scored a game-high 37 points in addition to 11 assists and 8 rebounds. The Warriors lost Kevin Durant in the last six minutes of the game due to an ankle injury, but Warriors coach Steve Kerr didn’t seem too upset about the injury and expects him back soon.

Drew Rosenhaus Terminated Relationship With Brown, Bengals/Browns Marijuana Petition, Giants Hire First Female Coach

FOOTBALL

Drew Rosenhaus terminated his relationship with troubled wide receiver Antonio Brown until Brown gets the help he needs. Brown was released from the Oakland Raiders at the beginning of the 2019 season then was picked up by the New England Patriots. After sexual assault allegations surfaced, he was released from the Patriots and is now currently a free agent (with no agent).

Cincinnati Bengals and Cleveland Browns fans are petitioning the State Medical Board of Ohio to legally obtain medical marijuana. Even though most submissions deal with medical illnesses, there was an actual detailed submission called “Bengals/Browns Fans” outlining the need for marijuana due to suffering from their teams’ losing season(s) and inability to ever win a Super Bowl.

BASEBALL

The San Francisco Giants hired the first female full-time coach in Major League Baseball history. Alyssa Nakken will be an assistant under Giants manager Gabe Kapler.

Raiders Triumph Over Chargers, Raiders’ Fan Trending, Brown Profanity-Laced Tweet

FOOTBALL

The Oakland Raiders hosted what will likely be their final primetime game at Oakland Coliseum against their AFC West rival, the Los Angeles Chargers.  With just 1:02 left to play, Raiders’ running back Josh Jacobs scored, giving the Raiders a dramatic 26-24 victory at home. Of course, it didn’t help that LA Chargers’ QB Philip Rivers had the worst game of the season throwing three interceptions. One particular Raiders’ fan has been trending on social media when he was caught on camera with a sign reading, “I missed my court date to see this game!”

Troubled wide receiver Antonio Brown is back in the news. Next week, he is scheduled to meet with the NFL to discuss allegations of sexual assault. Instead of laying low and just trying to present his case, he posted a profanity-laced tweet on social media saying, “Imagine conforming to a system giving it a 100 percent to see them treat me like this is unfairly! Making money off my sweat and blood F— the @nfl I’ll never play in that s— treat black people the worse! Clear my name and go f— your self.” He slightly recanted later in the day stating “he was ‘very frustrated’ and ‘determine’ to return to the NFL.”

Brown Finished With NFL & Enrolled In School, Danny Dimes, Barkley Sprained Ankle

FOOTBALL

Two days after the New England Patriots released wide receiver Antonio Brown (who has been accused of rape and sexual assault), Brown stated he was “finished with the NFL”. According to Brown’s agent, some teams have expressed interest in signing him, but with Brown in the midst of an investigation, it seems unlikely a team would pick him up anytime soon. In the meantime, Brown has enrolled at Central Michigan University and posted on Instagram his four-class schedule with the caption “Back to School”.

New York Giants rookie quarterback Daniel Jones started on Sunday, replacing veteran Eli Manning. Jones went 23 for 36 for 336 yards with two passing and two rushing touchdowns giving the Giants their first win of the season. An always classy Manning was seen on the sidelines fist bumping Jones after his first TD. Jones has sometime been called “Danny Dimes” meaning “putting the ball on a dime”, and now two NY men have tried to capitalize by trademarking the name. Unfortunately for the Giants though, their superstar running back Saquon Barkley sprained his ankle and is expected to miss several weeks. Giants 32, Buccaneers 31.

Roethlisberger And Brees Suffer Injuries, Brown Plays And Pats Destroy, Grandmasters Are Elite Athletes

FOOTBALL

A few big stories in week two of the NFL:

One of the biggest stories in week two of the NFL was unfortunately seeing Pittsburgh Steelers’ quarterback Ben Roethlisberger suffer an elbow injury in a loss to the Seattle Seahawks, and the New Orleans Saints’ quarterback Drew Brees leaving the game against the LA Rams with a thumb injury. No word on when the two future Hall of Fame quarterbacks will be back in action.

Antonio Brown was in the news this weekend for actually playing football and took the field for the first time with his new team, the New England Patriots. He finished with a touchdown and four catches for 56 yards. The Patriots were unstoppable and embarrassed the Dolphins in a 43-0 victory.

CHESS

In case anyone wonders whether playing professional chess is a sport, ESPN writer Aishwarya Kumar wrote about Grandmasters losing weight while playing in competitions. She cited Robert Sapolsky, who studies stress in primates at Stanford University. He proved a chess player can burn up to 6,000 calories a day based on breathing rates, blood pressure and muscle contractions. He noted that “grandmaster’s stress response to chess are on par with what elite athletes experience.” He went on to say, “Grandmasters sustain elevated blood pressure for hours in the range found in competitive marathon runners,”

Wil Lutz Makes History, Raiders Win W/O Brown, Jerry Rice “We all got played”

FOOTBALL

In a wild finish on Monday night football, New Orleans kicker Wil Lutz made history with a 58-yard field goal as time expired to give the team a 30-28 win over the Houston Texans. The career-long kick for Lutz also ranked as the longest field goal in the final 10 seconds of a season-opening game (since the 1970 NFL/AFL merger).

The Oakland Raiders capped off a difficult week dealing with the Antonio Brown saga and came out looking strong and focused in their season-opening win over the Denver Broncos (24-16). Speaking of Brown, former San Francisco 49er and Hall of Famer Jerry Rice said “We all got played” by Brown. He went on to say, “I think when he asked to be released from the Steelers, he wanted to go to the Patriots. He wanted them to trade him to the Patriots. And there was no way that the Steelers would trade him to a rival. So he had to go a different route. And he decided to come through the Bay Area. And I feel sorry for the fans over in Oakland. He was a Denzel Washington and he won the Oscar. He won an Oscar, guys. I’m gonna be honest with you.”
