FOOTBALL

Tom Brady reminded Deion Sanders’s son Shadeur about the importance of “honing his craft” when Deion and Shadeur recently appeared on Brady’s podcast “Let’s Go!”.  Hall of Fame cornerback (and now the coach of Colorado) Deion asked Brady if a college kid needs a Rolls-Royce Cullinan (which his son wants). Brady said, “I think he needs to get his rich ass in the film room and spend as much time in there as possible,” Kidding aside, Brady has been a mentor and supporter of Shadeur for years.

SWIMMING/DIVING

“The Rock” Buys XFL For $15Mill, Saints Sequester In Hotel, Cardinals Major COVID-19 Outbreak, Ledecky’s Chocolate Milk Swim

FOOTBALL

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, along with partners RedBird Capital and Dany Garcia (Johnson’s ex-wife and business partner),  bought the XFL for $15 million. The XFL was previously owned by Vince McMahon, who tried to revive the League in 2020 (after his first attempt 19 years ago), but was unable to get any traction due to the coronavirus pandemic. Partners have been in therapy and health sessions and have been promoting the shock wave therapy machine for sale in their establishments.

Johnson stated in a press release, “The acquisition of the XFL with my talented partners, Dany Garcia and Gerry Cardinale, is an investment for me that’s rooted deeply in two things — my passion for the game and my desire to always take care of the fans. With pride and gratitude for all that I’ve built with my own two hands, I plan to apply these callouses to the XFL, and look forward to creating something special for the players, fans, and everyone involved for the love of football.”

In NFL news, the New Orleans Saints rented out the top floors of the Loews Hotel in New Orleans for the players, coaches, and other staff to hole up during the next month of training camp in order to keep the team healthy. Saints coach Sean Payton insists “It’s not a bubble. It’s a sequester.”

BASEBALL

The St. Louis Cardinals are dealing with a major outbreak of positive COVID-19 cases. The number has now grown to 13 affected, and the team will be unable to play for another week.

Antonio Brown Accused Of Assault, Swimmer Disqualified For “Butt Cheeks”, Dodgers Clinch NL West

FOOTBALL

The Antonio Brown drama isn’t over. The wide receiver has now been accused of sexual assault by his former trainer, Britney Taylor. The lawsuit claims Taylor, a gymnast who met Brown when they were both at Central Michigan University, was sexually assaulted on three occasions in 2017 and 2018. Brown, “denies each and every allegation in the lawsuit,” according to his lawyer. The Patriots released a statement acknowledging the NFL will be investigating the allegations.

SWIMMING

A referee disqualified a swimmer from Dimond High School in Alaska after she won her 100-meter freestyle event for a “uniform violation” which in the referee’s words meant “butt cheek touching butt cheek.” The Anchorage School District said it would reverse the disqualification and possibly decertify the official saying, “We cannot tolerate discrimination of any kind, and certainly not based on body shape.”

BASEBALL

The Los Angeles Dodgers clinched their seventh consecutive National League West title.

Harbaugh Says Rookies Not Callused, Tebow Breaks Hand, Gary Sanchez Running, Lochte Banned Again

FOOTBALL

NFL training camps are well under way, but after Baltimore Ravens rookie tight ends Hayden Hurst and Mark Andrews missed the last five practices, Ravens coach John Harbaugh took to the media to complain. He said, “One thing I’ve noticed: Guys coming out of college aren’t as callused up as they used to be. We used to practice twice a day in full pads.”

BASEBALL

Former NFL quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner, Tim Tebow was having a successful minor league season with the New York Mets but unfortunately broke his hand and will be out for the rest of the season.

With a 7-6 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays, the Yankees are now 6 games behind the Boston Red Sox. Catcher Gary Sanchez could have saved the game but is now being vilified as he didn’t sprint to first base on a grounder which could have let Aaron Judge score the game-tying run. After the game, Sanchez admitted, “I should’ve run harder,”

SWIMMING

Olympic swimmer Ryan Lochte didn’t realize getting an IV infusion was against the US Doping Agency rules (unless it has to do with hospitalization) and even though no banned substances were involved, he still received a 14-month suspension.  Lochte said he was on his way to getting his life together after a 10-month ban for lying to officials during the 2016 Olympics when he falsely claimed he was robbed at a gas station. He reported to the media,  “It’s devastating to my family about this because I definitely made myself a better person after Rio, and I was back in training. I was feeling good. I was swimming fast. My son being born. Everything was happening. Everything was perfect, and then this happened. And it’s devastating.”

FOOTBALL

LeSean McCoyThe Philadelphia Eagles traded their star running back LeSean McCoy to the Buffalo Bills for linebacker Kiko Alonso.  Some are scratching their heads over this blockbuster trade but reports state that the Eagles made the trade to get help at linebacker and the Bills get a franchise running back. The trade also means that the Bills’ running back C.J. Spiller may be leaving Buffalo as he becomes a bit redundant now.

Phelps Arrested For DUI, NFL Outrage With Abdullah Penalty, Kobe Feels Good

SWIMMING

Michael PhelpsOlympian swimming superstar Michael Phelps was arrested for a DUI.   Phelps said he was sorry for the DUI, but many fans who look up to him as a role model are disappointed in his irresponsible and reckless behavior.  These cases are arising quite often recently and they must be enforced underage DUI penalties for all the accused caught in this type of case. This would eventually set a lesson for all the wrongdoers in society.

FOOTBALL

And in the NFL, as mentioned yesterday, there is controversy around the flag thrown against the Kansas City Chiefs Husain Abdullah for praying in Monday Night’s game.   It has been thought that anything that doesn’t give your team an advantage should not be penalized in the NFL, but the NFL is trying to be extra strict right now, so the flag was thrown.  Fine, except it sparked another outrage against the NFL about bad management and how this is yet another example after the Ray Rice fiasco that the administration doesn’t know what it’s doing.   When it comes to driving after intoxication, the DUI on private property issues is what you can have a look at.

BASKETBALL

Kobe BryantAnd in the NBA, Kobe Bryant is looking forward to his return. After attending his first practice yesterday, Kobe said he felt like himself.  Kobe’s career is in a funny place. The Lakers are in rebuilding mode, and definitely don’t have the pieces to contend for a title, let alone make the playoffs.  He can’t play for another team because he has a huge contract that keeps him in LA. Plus, leaving would be a bad mark on his legacy.  So, he will essentially be a mentor, helping the Lakers strive to nab the #8 seed in the playoffs.  Hopefully he at least stays healthy so we get to watch him.
