Steve Cohen Submits $2 Bill Bid For Mets, Big Ten Announces Conference Only Fall Sports

Hedge fund mogul Steve Cohen is still in the mix to buy the New York Mets. First-round bids were due this week, and according to Fox Business report, Cohen offered $2 billion for the team and an additional $2 billion to acquire the SportsNet New York (SNY) network. Alex Rodriguez and Jennifer Lopez also made a bid for $1.7 billion. Philadelphia 76ers and New Jersey Devils owners Josh Harris and David Blitzer are still reportedly in the mix as well.

The Big Ten announced it will move all fall sports to a conference-only schedule. All Power 5 conferences could follow their lead, which would result in only regional sports (including football) for the fall season. The Big Ten statement said, “We are facing uncertain and unprecedented times, and the health, safety and wellness of our student-athletes, coaches, game officials, and others associated with our sports programs and campuses remain our number one priority…. By limiting competition to other Big Ten institutions, the Conference will have the greatest flexibility to adjust its own operations throughout the season and make quick decisions in real-time based on the most current evolving medical advice and the fluid nature of the pandemic.”
