Kyrie Disputes He Had “I’m a Jew and Proud” Sign Removed, Magic To Retire Shaq’s Number, Nets Incur $100K Fine, Niners 9 Pro Bowl Selections

BASKETBALL

In a game against the Utah Jazz, Kyrie Irving claims he did not ask security to remove a sign displayed by a local Rabbi and Dallas Mavericks fan saying “I’m a Jew and I’m Proud”. Irving told The Athletic, “I wish him and his family well. No disrespect going his way. That’s not my MO.” Back in 2022 while playing for the Brooklyn Nets, Irving was suspended for posting a link to an antisemitic film.

The Orlando Magic will retire Shaquille O’Neals #32 jersey on February 13th in celebration of the team’s 35th anniversary. O’Neal will be the first player in the franchise’s history to have his number retired.

The Brooklyn Nets are the first NBA team to incur a $100,000 fine for violating the NBA’s player participation policy. The new policy specifies fines on teams for resting players who are otherwise healthy.

FOOTBALL

The San Francisco 49ers received the honor of having nine of its players selected to the Pro Bowl (including QB Brock Purday, running back Christian McCaffrey and tight end George Kittle). The goal, however, is that none of these players will actually compete, as they’ll be preparing for a Super Bowl run instead.
