Travis Kelce Hosts SNL, NFL’s New Sports Entertainment Company, NFL Scouting Combine, Ja Morant On Leave

FOOTBALL

Kansas City Chiefs tight end and two-time Super Bowl winner, Travis Kelce, made his Saturday Night Live debut over the weekend. Check out some of his hysterical clips.

The NFL has partnered with Skydance Media (which produced “Top Gun: Maverick”) on a joint venture to create sports entertainment. According to the NFL’s VP of digital media, “Our ultimate goal is for every athlete, actor, writer, director and brand that wants to tell a story about football — or about sports more broadly — to make us their first call.”

At the NFL Scouting Combine (where college football players show off their skills and take mental tests to enhance their prospects in the NFL), Georgia’s Nolan Smith stood out by running a 4.39 40-yard dash and scored in the 99th percentile in the 40-yard dash, the vertical jump, and in the 96th percentile in the broad jump. Also of note, Northwestern’s defensive end Adetomiwa Adebawore, who is 282 pounds, ran a 4.49 in the 40-yard dash (the fastest time recorded for someone over 280 pounds).

BASKETBALL

Memphis Grizzlies Ja Morant is on leave from the team after a video circulated of him holding a gun at a nightclub on Saturday night. No word yet on how long he’ll be out.

Tommy Fury Defeats Paul & Drake Loses $400K, NBA May Lower Draft Age, LeBron Foot Injury, Wentz Gone Again

BOXING

Boxer and Love Island finalist Tommy Fury defeated Jake Paul in a split decision giving Paul his first career loss. Unfortunately, rapper/singer Drake lost $400,000 betting on Jake.

BASKETBALL

The NBA and the Players Association are considering lowering the draft age to 18, with the idea that veteran players would mentor the teenagers coming directly from high school.

Just as the LA Lakers were hitting their stride, the team’s chances of making the playoffs dropped significantly after superstar LeBron James suffered a foot injury on Sunday night. No word yet on the extent of the injury, but it seems pretty clear he won’t be back anytime soon.

FOOTBALL

The Washington Commanders released quarterback Carson Wentz after just one season. The Commanders were Wentz’s third team in three years (Eagles, Colts, Commanders).
