Jeff Saturday To Replace Colts Coach, Baltimore Cruises To Victory On MNF, McConaughey Wants To Buy Commanders

FOOTBALL

No one was surprised that the Indianapolis Colts fired head coach Frank Reich, but naming ESPN/NFL analyst Jeff Saturday as his interim replacement made headlines. Saturday is a member of the Colts Ring of Honor, but he has no real coaching experience (other than as a high school coach at Hebron Christian Academy).

Thanks to a solid outing from quarterback Lamar Jackson, Baltimore cruised to a 27-13 victory over the New Orleans Saints on Monday Night Football.

According to reports, actor Matthew McConaughey has expressed an interest in joining an investment group to bid on the Washington Commanders. McConaughey is a big Commanders fan and is already in the sports business as a co-owner of Major League Soccer’s Austin FC.

Astros Win World Series, Mattress Mack Makes $75 Mill, Georgia, Clemson, LSU Big Winners, Fields/Brady Make History

BASEBALL

The Houston Astros are World Series champions after beating the Philadelphia Phillies in six games. Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale, a furniture store owner who is known for making outrageously large bets, will cash in $75 million (on a $10 million bet on the Astros winning). Mack promised customers he’ll refund (and in some cases double) their money back from purchases if the Astros win, so he hedged the bet a bit. Either way, it’s the largest sports betting win in history.

FOOTBALL

It was an exciting weekend in college football. #3 Georgia beat top-ranked Tennessee (whose applications for admission had skyrocketed after they beat Alabama on October 15th), while #4 Clemson fell to Notre Dame, and #10 LSU pulled out an overtime win over #6 Alabama.

In the NFL, a few notable games:

Chicago quarterback Justin Fields made history by recording the most rushing touchdowns of any quarterback in a regular season game. Unfortunately for the Bears, they narrowly lost to Miami 32-35.

Tom Brady also made history….again! He is the only player in the NFL to reach 100,000 career passing yards. He also recorded his 55th career game-winning drive by leading the Buccaneers to a 16-13 win with a touchdown in the last 35 seconds of the game.

BASEBALL

The Houston Astros are one win away from a World Series title after beating the Philadelphia Phillies 3-2 in game 5. The teams will play again on Saturday night in Houston.

FOOTBALL

The Philadelphia Eagles’ winning streak continues. After a 29-17 victory over the Houston Texans on Thursday night, the team is now 8-0 for the first time in franchise history.

BASKETBALL

The Brooklyn Nets suspended point guard Kyrie Irving for a minimum of five games without pay for not apologizing for his endorsement of a film that promotes antisemitic tropes (including Holocaust denial). The Nets statement says, we are of the view that he is currently unfit to be associated with the Brooklyn Nets.” And, that his return is “contingent on him [satisfying] a series of objective remedial measures that address the harmful impact of his conduct.” After the ban, Kyrie finally posted an apology on Instagram, but many believe his statement was too little and too late.

In other NBA news, the Philadelphia 76ers star James Harden will be out for a month due to a tendon strain in his right foot.
