Colin Kaepernick’s Name Excluded From Madden NFL ’19, Faulk Suspended From NFL Networks

FOOTBALL

A twitter user exposed video game maker EA Sports for excluding former 49er quarterback Colin Kaepernick in YG’s song “Big Bank,” which is featured in the new Madden NFL ’19.  Kaepernick created a movement in 2016 with his National Anthem kneeling protest, and when he wasn’t picked up by any team since free agency in 2017, he sued the NFL owners for collusion. The case is still pending and emotions still run high on both sides of the issue. According to EA Sports, “We made an unfortunate mistake with our Madden NFL soundtrack. Members of our team misunderstood the fact that while we don’t have rights to include Colin Kaepernick in the game, this doesn’t affect soundtracks. We messed up, and the edit should never have happened. We will make it right, with an update to Madden NFL 19 on August 6 that will include the reference again. We meant no disrespect, and we apologize to Colin, to YG and Big Sean, to the NFL, to all of their fans and our players for this mistake.”

In other NFL news, a former wardrobe stylist at NFL network accused Hall of Famer Marshall Faulk as well as Ike Taylor and Heath Evans for sexual harassment. As of now, all three are suspended from their roles as NFL analysts and aren’t expected to come back.

49er QB Colin Kaepernick Refuses To Stand During National Anthem, Romo Out Indefinitely

FOOTBALL

Colin Kaepernick The big news in pre-season football over the weekend was not about how any of the players performed on the field but about a player’s patriotism. The San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick refused to stand for the National Anthem Friday in a pre-season game against the Green Bay Packers. Kaep, who is biracial, claimed he was protesting police brutality and how the US treats black people. He said, “I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color.” He went on to say, “When there’s significant change and I feel like that flag represents what it’s supposed to represent, this country is representing people the way that it’s supposed to, I’ll stand.” While the NFL and the San Francisco 49ers confirmed it’s not required for athletes to stand, many, many, athletes and individuals took to social media criticizing Kaepernick for his unpatriotic actions. As just one example, Justin Pugh (the New York Giants’ lineman) stated Kaep’s actions were “disrespectful to all the men and women who put their lives on the line to protect this country”.

In more pre-season news, the Dallas Cowboys season may be in jeopardy unless they can come up with a suitable replacement for injured QB Tony Romo. Romo is out indefinitely with a broken bone in his back. Backup Dak Prescott was a 4th round pick but has performed well in the pre-season so it will be interesting to see how he fares in September with the pressure of games that truly matter.

NBA Tape Delay Due To Bad Language, Kaepernick Scripted Series, MLS $65 Fyre Festival Meal

BASKETBALL

Commissioner of the NBA Adam Silver speculated in an interview about tape-delaying games because he’s worried about corporate sponsors getting upset if the players use bad language. He said, “I think often players, they understand when they’re on the floor, they’re saying certain things to each other because it’s so loud in the arena, they know a lot of it is not being picked up. They may have to adapt their language a little bit knowing what they say will likely be picked up by microphones and in all seriousness, we may need to put a little bit of a delay.”

FOOTBALL

Netflix announced they will be producing a six-part series on Colin Kaepernick called “Colin in Black and White.” Kaepernick will narrate the scripted drama about his experiences growing up as a black child adopted into a white family.

SOCCER

WNBA Returns, Roger Goodell Encouraging Teams To Sign Kaepernick, MLB Drama Continues, Harris/Blitzer Stake In Steelers

BASKETBALL

According to reports, the WNBA will have a 22-game regular season starting in late July and with games held at the IMG Academy in Florida. Players are set to earn 100% of their salaries even though they will only play 22 games instead of the full 36-game schedule.

FOOTBALL

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell told ESPN that he “supports and encourages” teams to sign the 32-year old former San Francisco 49er quarterback Colin Kaepernick. Kaepernick hasn’t played since 2016 when he became famous for kneeling during the national anthem in a sign of protest against racial injustice and police brutality. In the interview, Goodell said, “Well, listen, if he wants to resume his career in the NFL, then obviously it’s gonna take a team to make that decision. But I welcome that, support a club making that decision and encourage them to do that.” He went on to say, “If his efforts are not on the field but continuing to work in this space, we welcome him to that table and to help us. … I hope we’re at a point now where everybody’s committed to making long-term, sustainable change.”

BASEBALL

The drama in the negotiations about Major League Baseball returning continues. On Monday, just five days after guaranteeing the baseball season would happen, commissioner Rob Manfred said he was “not confident” there would be a season at all.

Winston LASIK, Kaepernick Memoir, Snoop Dogg Apologizes

FOOTBALL

Tampay Bay quarterback Jameis Winston, who was always seen on the sidelines squinting at the scoreboard, finally got LASIK eye surgery. Winston was the #1 pick in the 2015 NFL draft and is now an unrestricted free agent. Last season he became the first quarterback in the NFL history to throw 30 touchdown passes and 30 interceptions.  No word yet on whether the Buccaneers will re-sign Winston.

Colin Kaepernick is writing a memoir explaining what motivated him in 2016 to begin kneeling during the national anthem while he was the quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers. He said, “I’ve had a lot of questions surrounding what got me to the point of protesting, ‘Why did I do it? Why did I do it at that moment? Why wasn’t it earlier in my career? A lot of questions surrounding what led me to that point. Which led me to wanting to share that story and give insight.”

BASKETBALL

Snoop Dogg apologized to Gayle King for attacking her on social media. During an interview with WNBA star Lisa Leslie, King brought up Kobe Bryant’s rape case from 2003 and asked if it complicated Kobe’s legacy. Snoop Dogg responded on social media by saying “King should ‘back off, b—-, before we come get you.” According to reports, King has been getting death threats after the rapper made the comments.

Rivers Gone From Chargers, XFL Debut But Kaepernick Too Expensive

FOOTBALL

The Los Angeles Chargers officially “mutually parted ways” with quarterback Philip Rivers. No word yet on where he’ll end up, but Rivers recently moved his large family to Florida, so it appears the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are the odds-on favorite. The 38-year old Rivers said that wherever he ends up, he’ll play for a maximum of 2 years.

The NFL season is over, but the newly revised XFL had its officially debut last weekend. The new League markets itself as  “fan-first, ultra-accessible, and true to the game”. The League consists of 8 teams playing in a ten-week regular season and two-week postseason. You’ll see some recognizable names on the field of players who for various reasons haven’t been able to find a spot in the NFL.  The one player you won’t see, however, is Colin Kaepernick. According to the Commissioner Oliver Luck when asked about Kaepernick , “I’m saying that we spoke with his representative, and the salary requirements that were broached in that conversation were exorbitant and certainly out of our range.”

Cowboys Lose To Bears, Kaepernick Receiver Gets Signed

FOOTBALL

The Dallas Cowboys’ season is unraveling with a 31-24 loss to the Chicago Bears on Thursday night. The Cowboys have now lost three straight games and are 6-7 on the season. The Bears’ quarterback Mitchell Trubisky served up four touchdowns (three throwing and one running) in the win.

A few weeks ago, controversial former 49er quarterback Colin Kaepernick worked out for a select group of NFL teams, but still remains unsigned. The player catching passes from Kaepernick fared much better. The Washington Redskins signed 24-year old Jordan Veasy to their practice squad after fielding passes from Kaepernick. Veasy stated,

Pats D Unstoppable, Setting Record Straight On Kaepernick, 4 Teams Left MLB Playoffs

FOOTBALL

The New England Patriots defense is unstoppable. In a Thursday night matchup with the New York Giants, the Pats D picked off Giants’ rookie quarterback Daniel Jones three times, had one fumble recovery, one blocked punt, one sack, and two touchdowns for a decisive 35-14 win. In an unbelievable stat, cited by The Ringer, “the Patriots defense and special teams is averaging more points than all but two running backs (McCaffrey and Dalvin Cook), every single receiver, every single tight end, and all but six quarterbacks.”

The Colin Kaepernick story needs a reset according to his agent Jeff Nalley.  Nalley posted a two-page document entitled”Facts to Address the False Narratives Regarding Colin Kaepernick” to set the record straight about why all 32 NFL teams still haven’t signed the 31-year old Kaepernick who “has the same skill set that many of the young mobile quarterbacks flourishing in the NFL right now.”

BASEBALL

We’re down to the final four teams in the Major League Playoffs. The National Leauge Championship kicks off on Friday in St. Louis with the St. Louis Cardinals facing the Washington Nationals. In the American League, the Houston Astros face the New York Yankees on Saturday in Houston.

Kaepernick Posts He’s Ready To Play, Durant Doesn’t Hold Warriors Responsible For Injury

FOOTBALL

Former San Francisco 49er Colin Kaepernick has been out of football for three seasons, but recently posted on social media that he was “still ready” to play and was in top shape.  Kaepernick settled a collusion case against the NFL in February where he claimed his protests against police brutality and the US treatment of black people prevented him from getting picked up by a team.

BASKETBALL

Kevin Durant told the media he doesn’t hold the Golden State Warriors responsible for his Achilles’ tendon injury in Game 5 of the NBA Finals this season. Durant said, “Hell, no. How can you blame [the Warriors]? Hell, no. I heard the Warriors pressured me into getting back. Nobody never said a word to me during rehab as I was coming back. It was only me and [trainer] Rick [Celebrini] working out every day. Right when the series started, I targeted Game 5. Hell, nah. It just happened. It’s basketball. S— happens. Nobody was responsible for it. It was just the game. We just need to move on from that s— because I’m going to be back playing.” In July, Durant signed a four-year contract with the Brooklyn Nets $164 million.

Ja Morant’s Triple Double Leads Murray State Over Marquette, Kaepernick And Reid’s $10Mill Settlement

BASKETBALL

Murray State’s Ja Morant’s triple-double was the highlight of day one in the NCAA tournament. In a big 83-64 win over #5 Marquette, Morant recorded 17 points, 16 assists, and 11 rebounds. He is only the 8th player to register a triple-double in the tournament. The last player to achieve this feat was Draymond Green in 2011 and 2012 when he played for Michigan State. Murry State is ranked #12 so Morant and his teammates were feeling good about their win. After the game, Morant said, “It was a lot of fun. Just being able to go out with these guys and get a win in the NCAA tournament.”

FOOTBALL

According to a Wall Street Journal report, Colin Kaepernick and Eric Reid received less than $10 million in total for their settlement in the NFL collusion case (not including what they spent in legal fees). Kaepernick was earning $14.3 million in his final year with the San Francisco 49ers, but has remained unsigned the last two years.
