VP Pence Left Colts Game, Jerry Jones Bench Kneeling Players, Odell And JJ Injured, Dolphins OL Coach Snorting Powder

FOOTBALL

Vice President Mike Pence left the Indianapolis Colts/SF 49ers game on Sunday after 20 players from the 49ers continued their protesting and knelt during the National Anthem. Pence was at the game to celebrate the Colts retiring Peyton Manning’s number and inducting him into the Colts Ring of Honor. He stated: ,

Speaking of protests, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones stated he would “bench any player who disrespects the flag” and doesn’t stand for the Anthem.

As for the games on Sunday, unfortunately there were some high profile injuries. The New York Giants’ Odell Beckham Jr broke his left ankle and will be out for the year. It’s the same ankle Odell injured during pre-season.  The Giants were already having a tough season, and after their loss on Sunday to the Los Angles Chargers, the team dropped to 0-5.

In another major injury, the Houston Texans’ J.J. Watt left the field with a tibial plateau fracture. It’s unclear when he’ll return, but the Texans also lost their linebacker Whitney Mercilus for the game, and the Texans couldn’t pull out the win against the solid play of the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith.  Chiefs 42, Texans 34,

In a strange story, the Miami Dolphins offensive line coach Chris Foerster videotaped himself snorting white powder off a table before a meeting. The Dolphins are looking into the video and are expected to make an announcement about the incident soon.

Indians 21 Wins, Banner Removed In Boston, Beckham Jr In Dance-Off, Paris/LA Official Olympic Cities

BASEBALL

The Cleveland Indians continue to make history. By beating the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday night, the Indians set an American League record of 21 consecutive wins. They are now tied with the 1935 Chicago Cubs.

A “Racism is as American as Baseball” banner was removed Wednesday night during Boston’s 7-3 loss to the Oakland Athletics at Fenway Park. The fans responsible for the banner claimed it was meant to be anti-racist. In their statement to CSN New England, they said, “We want to remind everyone that just as baseball is fundamental to American culture and history, so too is racism. White people need to wake up to this reality before white supremacy can truly be dismantled. We urge anyone who is interested in learning more or taking action to contact their local racial justice organization.”

FOOTBALL

NY Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr is in a bit of hot water as he was reported to have been in a “dance off” last week against Oklahoma City Thunder’s Russell Westbrook in a NYC Club. Normally that wouldn’t be a problem, but Odell didn’t play in the Giants opener because he’s suffering from an ankle injury, so dancing in a Club, then sitting on the sidelines while your team gets destroyed is not good optics.

OLYMPICS

The International Olympic Committee officially awarded the 2024 Olympics to Paris and the 2028 Games to Los Angeles. Paris and LA will join London as the only cities to host the Olympics 3-times.

Odell Beckham Jr And Brandon Marshall Injuries, 12 Browns Take Knee

FOOTBALL

Pre-season games don’t mean much, unless someone gets injured, which unfortunately happened on Monday night. The New York Giants’ Odell Beckham Jr and Brandon Marshall both suffered what appeared to be minor injuries, but the team will access the severity when they return home.  Beckham Jr limped off the field with an ankle strain and Marshall with a shoulder injury. Many fans are upset that the Brown’s Briean Boddy-Calhoun’s hit on Beckham was dirty and he should be fined.

In other news from the Giants pre-season loss to the Cleveland Browns, 12 Browns players took a knee in prayer during the National Anthem. According to rookie Jabrill Peppers, “There’s a lot of racial and social injustices in the world that are going on right now. We just decided to take a knee and pray for the people who have been affected and just pray for the world in general.” Browns’ tight end Seth DeValve became the first white player to kneel. According to the Seahawks Michael Bennett, it would take a white player kneeling to change the conversation.  No word on whether the players will continue to take a knee during the regular season.

Odell Beckham Wants Highest Paid Player, Mallet Signed Over Kaepernick, USC No OJ

FOOTBALL

New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr announced on UNINTERRUPTED he wanted to be the highest paid player (not just the highest paid wide receiver) in the NFL. Odell is still working off of his 5 year rookie contract and will make $1.8 million this year and $8.4 million next year (his 5th year). This sum is significantly below other top receivers in the league.  Most of the top paid players in the league are quarterbacks with the Ravens Joe Flacco at the top with $24.55 million. The highest paid receiver this year is Dallas’ Dez Bryant at $17 million.

Speaking of Flacco, the Baltimore Ravens have seemingly opted out of signing Colin Kaepernick as a backup to an injured Flacco (missing a week due to back surgery). The team announced they were signing arena-league quarterback David Olson. Ryan Mallet is expected to immediately take over duties while Flacco is out, but Olson will have his shot at backup as well. Before transferring to Stanford, Olson played for Jim Harbaugh (the brother of Ravens’ coach John Harbaugh).

Former Heisman trophy winner and former Hall of Famer, OJ Simpson could be free from his recent jail sentence in October. OJ was once the most celebrated USC alumni, but now current USC coach Clay Helton said he wouldn’t allow OJ on the field. He stated, “Currently right now, what the USC administration and the athletic department have said is, no, O.J. will not be a part of our functions or invited.”

Odell Beckham Skips OTA’s, Wright Takes Uber, Dak Prescott Wants PhD

FOOTBALL

New York Giants’ Odell Beckham Jr. skipped this week’s “organized team activities” in order to make clear he’s interested in a new contract. He’s reported to make $1.8 million this season and $8 million in 2018. Beckham claims he won’t miss minicamp which begins on Tuesday.

This is the time of year when players need to show coaches and teams their dedication and commitment. Cornerback Shareece Wright certainly made a statement when he took an Uber from Chicago O’hare to the Buffalo Bills voluntary training camp in New York. According to Wright’s tweet after the trip, he paid $632.08 plus a $300 tip for the 8 hour trip. Wright will be competing for a starting spot on the Bills’ roster.

Dallas Cowboys’ QB Dak Prescott is planning for life after football. Prescott already has a bachelors degree in psychology and a masters degrees in workforce leadership and plans to pursue a doctorate when his playing days are through. He said, “Even though I had all the confidence in myself in making it to the NFL or in the game of football, I knew that it could be taken away from me at any moment. I never wanted to be that guy saying, ‘What if I’d have gotten my degree or something, then I would’ve had something to fall back on.'”

BASKETBALL

Game 3 of the NBA Finals between the Golden State Warriors and the Cleveland Cavaliers is tonight 9:00 pm ET, ABC.  Warriors up 2-0 in the best of seven series.

Odell’s Record Shoe Contract, Gronkowski’s Music Video, LaVar Ball’s T-shirt

FOOTBALL

NY Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr signed the largest shoe contract Nike has ever offered a football player.  It’s reported he’ll make $29 million over 5 years. While this is a huge amount for football, the shoe contracts for NBA players are much higher. All-star LeBron James reportedly has a $1 billion lifetime contract with Nike.

New England Patriots Rob Gronkowski is known as one of QB Tom Brady’s favorite target on the field and a guy who seems to enjoy life to the fullest off the field. In his latest endeavor, he’s starring in  3LAU’s “On My Mind” music video.

BASKETBALL

LaVar Ball is making headlines again with his “Stay In Yo Lane” t-shirts. The shirts sell for between $50-$60. The phrase came about after his comments during an interview with Fox Sports’ Kristine Leahy.

Hall Of Fame Finalists, Odell Beckham Jr Partying With Biebs

FOOTBALL

The Hall of Fame committee selected their finalists. The following 15 players made the cut:  LaDainian Tomlinson, Jason Taylor, Terrell Owens, Brian Dawkins, Kurt Warner, Morten Anderson, Tony Boselli, Isaac Bruce, Terrell Davis, Don Coryell, Alan Faneca, Joe Jacoby, Ty Law, Kevin Mawae, and John Lynch. The day before the Super Bowl, February 4th, the Selection Committee will meet to choose at least 4 and no more than 8 of these finalists for induction.

Odell Beckham JrOdell Beckham Jr is under scrutiny this week after pictures of him surfaced on social media partying with Justin Bieber in Miami (after the Giants game against the Redskins Sunday night). The New York Giants are in the postseason and have a big playoff game this weekend against the Green Bay Packers, which is why people are questioning Beckham’s decision to fly to Miami to party with the Biebs in South Beach Sunday night and continue the party on a boat Monday. If Beckham doesn’t have a great game this weekend and the Giants don’t win, expect the media and fans to come down hard on him.

Duke Player Receives Technical For 3rd Tripping, Mom Killed For Gloating, Odell Fined For Sager Cleats

FOOTBALL

grayson-allenDuke University basketball player Grayson Allen received a technical foul for tripping a player from Elon University. What’s so newsworthy about this incident is it’s his third time tripping an opponent.  If you watch the video it’s abundantly clear Allen tripped the player on purpose. Many are upset with Blue Devils Coach, Mike Krzyzewski for not suspending Allen for his unsportsmanlike actions.  He called the incident “unacceptable” but so far hasn’t taken any further disciplinary action.

Many are excited by the resurgence of the Dallas Cowboys this season, but in a very bizarre, sick and sad story, the exuberance went too far. On Sunday, a mom in Dallas was celebrating the Cowboys win over Tampa Bay when her stepson became upset over her “gloating” and fatally stabbed her.

New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr feels there’s a double standard in how the NFL fines players. He was assessed a $18K fine for wearing colorful cleats (later auctioned for charity) honoring legendary Craig Sager. Odell claims he wasn’t asked to take the cleats off, he just got hit with the fine without warning.

Odell Beckham Jr Sets Record, Giants Win, Alshon Jeffrey Suspended

FOOTBALL

Odell Beckham JrThe Giants defense helped the team hold on for a close win over the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday night. The most noteworthy part of the game came in the 2nd quarter when Giant’s receiver Odell Beckham Jr grabbed an 18 yard catch to secure his place in history as the fastest wide receiver to reach 3, 500 yards in only 36 games. Odell became famous in 2014 with one of the greatest catches in history. Giants 21, Bengals 20

The Chicago Bears Alshon Jeffery will be suspended for 4 games for violating the NFL’s policy on performance enhancing drugs. Jeffrey has had a disappointing season so far (my fantasy team knows that well as we have him as our starting WR) and will need to show massive improvement when he returns on December 12th if he’s looking to make a top salary next season.

Brady Ends Suspension With Big Win, Odell’s Fun With Nets, Dak On Way To Rookie Record, Blue Jays Sweep Rangers

FOOTBALL

A few highlights from the weekend NFL games:

tom-bradyTom Brady officially ended his 4 game suspension for deflategate in a big win against the Cleveland Browns (who are now 0-5 and potentially on their 6th quarterback of the season). The team was clearly energized, and Brady did not disappoint by throwing for over 400 yards and 3 touchdowns. Tight end Rob Gronkowski said it best, “Everyone was intense today. Everyone was amped up. Tom always brings the amp-ness to the table. So we were just excited to get back out there, get back on track and get a win.” New England Patriots 33, Cleveland Browns 13.

The New York Giants lost to the Green Bay Packers, but the Giants Odell Beckham Jr seems to be putting his anger issues to rest. All week, sports fans have been talking about his inability to control himself, but on Sunday he appeared calm and happy and even had some fun (after making a beautiful touchd0wn catch) by hugging a kicking net he punched a couple of weeks ago.

Dak Prescott, QB of the Dallas Cowboys, is on his way to setting a rookie record for number of passes without an interception. He currently has 155 passes and needs 8 more to eclipse Tom Brady’s rookie record. Even though Prescott has been performing beyond expectations, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones still maintains injured QB Tony Romo will be the starting QB when he’s healthy. Cowboys RB, Ezekiel Elliott made a big contribution to the game by rushing for 100 yards in his 3rd consecutive game.  Dallas Cowboys 28, Cincinnati Bengals 14.

BASEBALL

The Toronto Blue Jays swept the Texas Rangers to advance to the American League Championship Series. The Blue Jays win marks the first series in Major League Baseball history to end with a walk off run scored via an error. This is the second straight year the Blue Jays advance to the ALCS.
