NBA

Russell WestbrookThe Oklahoma City Thunder, still reeling from losing Kevin Durant to the Golden State Warriors, appear to have reached a deal with their other superstar, Russell Westbrook.  He will stay with the Team for at least 2 more seasons, making $17.8 million next season and $26.5 the year after. He will earn even more if he stays a 3rd season.

NFL

The Kansas City Chiefs signed the experienced Nick Foles as a backup to quarterback to Alex Smith. Foles was pursued by the Dallas Cowboys and Minnesota Vikings but chose to play for his former coach, Andy Reid.

President Obama made the Denver Broncos’ wide receiver Demaryius Thomas’ dreams come true last year when he pardoned his mother for a drug offense in time for her to see him play (and win) in Super Bowl 50. Thomas thanked Obama again when his grandmother’ was included in the commutation on Wednesday of 214 inmates in a single day.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL

Alabama’s Head Coach Nick Saban  refused to let his defensive back, Maurice Smith transfer to rival Georgia. Smith’s mom fired back claiming Saban is ruining his son’s chances of continued success. Smith also claims after he asked Saban for a transfer, he was harassed in the locker room and found his belongings in the trash. One player texted him, “Bro I can’t have u at facility. Not for workout, lunch, anything. All in or out policy. Sorry bro.” Smith will graduate from Alabama this week and has appealed his denied request for transfer.

In other college football news, Auburn Coach, Gus Malzahn, released his top rusher Jovon Robinson for missing classes and meetings and being a distraction to the rest of the team. Malzahn said, “He did not meet my standards or expectations of what it takes to be an Auburn Tiger football player.”

Luck’s 4 TD’s Was Enough For Colts Win Over Giants, Sanchez In For Eagles, A-Rod Pays For Silence

FOOTBALL

Andrew LuckIn the NFL, it was Monday Night Football between the Indianapolis Colts and New York Giants.  The Colts were looking to bounce back after getting destroyed by Pittsburgh last week, and the Giants, reeling from injuries, were trying to pull off an unexpected upset.  Unfortunately for the Giants,  Andrew Luck and the Colts came ready to play with Luck throwing for 4 TD’. Their offense was clicking on all cylinders s and they demolished the Giants.  The Giants will spring to life every few weeks, and their first round draft pick Odell Beckham Jr. is looking like a winner, but a late season playoff run doesn’t look like it’s in their cards.  Colts 40, Giants 24
Mark SanchezElsewhere in the NFL, the Eagles are having a very good season, but on Sunday they lost their starting quarterback Nick Foles to a broken collar bone.  Some good news for Eagles fans, however, as it was reported yesterday that Foles won’t need surgery to repair the bone.  This means that he will likely be out for a stretch of games, but he could be ready for the playoffs.  Their back-up QB Mark Sanchez will get the ball in the meantime. Head coach Chip Kelly has always been impressed by Sanchez when he coached against him while Sanchez was at USC.

BASEBALL

Finally, in baseball, it’s being reported that the Yankees’ Alex Rodriguez actually paid his cousin over $1 million not to report to the media that he was using PEDs.  His cousin, Yuri Sucart, helped Alex Rodriguez obtain the PEDs and there is legitimate documentation that A-Rod paid Sucart $700,000 for his silence, followed by a few additional payments of $200,000 each. It’s tough to know if A-Rod will have any career left, but stories like this definitely don’t help.

Foles And Sproles Overpower Colts, Peterson Another Abuse Incident, Hannah Storm’s Impassioned Editorial

FOOTBALL

Nick FolesIn Monday Night Football action, the Philadelphia Eagles came to Indy to take on the Colts. Andrew Luck and the Colts came out to an early lead but you can never count out Philly’s dynamic duo of Foles and Sproles.  Philly QB Nick Foles remained poised and capitalized on two costly turnovers by the Colts in the second half. RB Sproles had 152 yards and a TD and set up a tie game with only minutes left in the game. As time expired, Cody Parker kicked the game winning field goal for the Phillies. Eagles 30, Colts 27.

Just hours after the Minnesota Vikings announced that Adrian Peterson would play next Sunday, news emerged that Peterson was accused in a separate incident of abusing another son. This second account allegedly occurred on June 23rd and child protective services came to investigate. Charges were not filed in this case but this new information definitely makes Peterson’s future with the team more uncertain.

Hannah StormIn the other domestic abuse case, Ray Rice is expected to appeal his NFL suspension. Reporter Hannah Storm gave an impassioned editorial on the NFL and the relationship with the female fans. It’s worth hearing.

Eagles On Fire, Bills Excessive Fighting, Tim Howard Taking Year Off

FOOTBALL

Nick FolesIn the NFL, it was a regional pre-season game between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Pittsburgh Steelers.  And, boy, did the Eagles look HOT!  They are clearly firing on all cylinders under Chip Kelly’s offense.  They have a solid amount of offensive weapons to beat you on all fronts when they have the ball.  Their QB Nick Foles looked sharp, and they sent a message to the league that they will be very tough to stop this year.  Watch out for the Eagles offense.  Philadelphia 31, Pittsburgh 21.

Conversely, the Buffalo Bills are experiencing just the opposite.  Reports coming from camp is that there is too much fighting, so much so that they had to shut down the camp because of fighting and shoving after the whistle.  Football is all about chemistry, and f you’re not getting along with your teammates, how are you going to go out there and compete? This doesn’t mean the Bills will have a bad season, but it’s certainly not a good sign if you’re a Buffalo fan.

SOCCER

Finally, in soccer, after a rigorous World Cup, the 35-year old goalie Tim Howard said he will take a year off from the Men’s National Team.  This does not mean he is retiring, as he will still compete in international play, but he won’t be partaking in all the workouts of the National Team.  There are still events that the US will compete in, but they will be without Howard for that time.  Howard still wants another crack at the World Cup , though, and has his sites set on 2018.
