All-NBA List, George & Hayward Down $200 Mill, Von Miller Surprises Employees, A-Rod A Shark

BASKETBALL

The NBA released its list of All-NBA players on Thursday. Indiana Pacers Paul George and Utah Jazz Gordon Hayward were left off the list, potentially costing them a five-year $200 million contract extension. NBA media members select the top 15 players by position to fill the First, Second, and Third All-NBA teams. Each team consists of two guards, two forwards and one center. LeBron James made the First Team again for the 11th time in his career. For a list of the all three Teams, click here.

The NBA playoffs continue this weekend with the Cleveland Cavaliers at the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference Finals Friday 8:30 pm ET. The Cavs lead the series 1-0. The Golden State Warriors, who lead 2-0,  will play Saturday 9:00 pm ET against the San Antonio Spurs.

Retired MVP Alex Rodriguez announced he will join the popular reality show Shark Tank as a guest judge in the fall. A-Rod said, “Ever since I was 10 years old, I sat on my father’s lap [and said] I have two dreams: [One was] to be a Major League Baseball player, but that usually never happens, and two was to be a CEO,”

Adam Silver’s Memo To NBA About Resting Players, Brady’s SB Jersey Found

BASKETBALL

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver delivered a memo to NBA Team owners expressing his concern over teams resting their players when the players aren’t injured. He wants to make sure teams report when players have actual injuries, so the media and fans know if one of their players will be sitting on the bench or participating in the action on the court. Last week the Golden State Warriors sat their stars Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green, while the Cleveland Cavaliers sat LeBron, Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love. Clearly the fans and media weren’t too happy watching that lineup. ESPN issued a statement saying, “As always, our aim is to serve NBA fans with the best matchups involving the league’s top stars and we share the fans’ disappointment. We understand this is a complex issue and we’re working closely with the NBA to best address it going forward from a media partnership standpoint.”

FOOTBALL

The mystery of Tom Brady’s missing jersey is finally over. The now ex-director of a newspaper in Mexico City is reportedly the culprit in stealing two of Brady’s Super Bowl jerseys and possibly the Denver Bronco’s Von Miller’s helmet from Super Bowl 50. Officials were able to recover the jersey based on surveillance footage of this reporter walking in and out of the players’ locker room with a backpack. You can see the footage here. It’s reported Brady’s jersey is worth at least $500 thousand dollars.

Rams Win At Home, Norman Takes Drug Test, Broncos D, Pats 3rd QB

FOOTBALL

Some highlights of the weekend football games:

ceelo-greenIt was a shockingly low scoring game, but the Los Angeles Rams’ defense helped the home crowd rejoice in a win against the once dominant QB Russell Wilson and the Seattle Seahawks. The Rams hadn’t played a regular season game in the LA Coliseum since 1979. Remember, the Los Angeles Rams were the St. Louis Rams, so playing for their new hometown fans in the LA Coliseum and winning, is a big deal. In traditional LA style, fans listened to a performance by the Red Hot Chili Peppers and CeeLo Green singing the National Anthem.  Rams 9, Seahawks 3.

To make a bad day even worse, Washington Redskins’ Cornerback Josh Norman had to take drug test after a loss to the Dallas Cowboys. The NFL conducts random drug tests throughout the season. Cowboys 27, Redskins 23.

Last year’s Super Bowl MVP, the Broncos’ Von Miller, is making his mark on the season and neutralized Indianapolis QB Andrew Luck in a 34-20 win.

The New England Patriots’ QB Tom Brady is staying football ready (according to his wife supermodel Gisele Bundchen) but is still out for 2 more games (remember deflategate). We just started to get to know his backup Jimmy Garoppolo (who has performed well in the spotlight and had even threw for 3 touchdowns against the Miami Dolphins in the first half),went down with an injury late in the second quarter. Jacoby Brisett, a rookie who was a third round pick out of NC State, was thrown into the fire but kept his cool and helped the team pull out the win. It remains unclear who will be the starting QB for the remainder of Brady’s suspension. Patriots 31, Dolphins 24.

Von Miller Wants To Be Bronco, Curry’s Used Mouthguard For Sale

NFL

Chelsea HandlerGood news for Denver Broncos fans worried about the stalemate between linebacker Von Miller and team management. The Super Bowl MVP appeared on Chelsea Handler’s Netflix talk show recently and said that he wants “to be a Bronco forever.” The Broncos applied the franchise tag to Miller during the offseason, giving them until July 15th to hammer out a contract with the player. Negotiations have been rocky, and Von Miller has rejected the current offer on the table. If there’s no agreement made soon, Von Miller will likely end up playing one season with the annual salary guaranteed him by the franchise-tag- about $14 million.

NBA

If you watch the Golden State Warriors point guard Steph Curry play, you see a lot of things. His unorthodox jump shot, his knack for sinking three pointers, and yes, of course, his staple mouthguard. You may not have Curry’s talent for basketball, but now you can have one of his game-used mouthguards. The mouthguard, recovered from the floor near the Warrior’s bench after a game, is being put up for auction and is expected to net at least $5,000. The item is a staple of Curry. His mouthguard sometimes seems to be going in and out of his mouth more than air. “I just chew on it like crazy,” Curry said in a TV appearance earlier this year. “It kind of calms me down, especially when I’m at the free throw line.” Let’s just see if it has the same calming effect on the auction’s winning bidder when the bill arrives.

Cavs Dominate Game 3, Von Miller Still Negotiating Huge Contract, Sharapova Banned For Drug Use

NBA

Kyrie & LeBronThe Cleveland Cavaliers dominated game 3 from beginning to end and have now made the NBA Final against the Golden State Warriors competitive. Kyrie Irving stepped up early and finished the game with 30 points while LeBron added his magic with 32 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists. Compare those stats to the Warriors’ Splash brothers, Steph Curry and Klay Thompson only combing for 35 points. Game 4 is Friday night 9:00 pm ABC. Cavaliers 120, Warriors 90.

NFL

The Denver Broncos organization has more on its mind than Aqib Talib’s gunshot wound. They are now reportedly still trying to sign an agreement with their franchise linebacker Von Miller. The offer on the table is  $114.5 million over 6 years. The issue apparently is the how much of the money is guaranteed. The Broncos have offered $35 million in the first 2 years while Von Miller’s reps have asked for a number closer to $69 million. Even though Von Miller hasn’t attended the Bronco’s off-season practices, he did join the Team in meeting President Obama at the White House this week.

TENNIS

The former #1 player Maria Sharapova plans to appeal her 2 year suspension from tennis for taking the drug meldonium. Sharapova claims she unintentionally took a banned substance and she should have been warned in advance of the drug’s listing. In addition to not playing in tournaments,  Sharapova’s major endorser, Tag Heuer, has cut its ties to her while Porsche says its keeping its distance.

CJ Anderson Staying With Denver, Von Miller’s DWTS

NFL

Denver Broncos running back C.J. Anderson will be sticking with the reigning Super Bowl champions. After being on the market as a restricted-free agent, Anderson accepted an offer from the Miami Dolphins. Then, somewhat unexpectedly, the Broncos announced that they would match Miami’s offer and retain the running back. Chicago actually offered Anderson more money, according to the player, but he felt more confident in his own success within Miami’s system. When Anderson heard the news that the Broncos were matching Miami’s offer, after failing to offer him a sizable contract in negotiations earlier in the year, Anderson remarked that he initially felt “disrespected.” But Bronco’s GM John Elway has no regrets. “We found out what his market value is,” Elway said.

Von MillerIn other NFL news, Super Bowl MVP Von Miller will appear on the new season of Dancing with the Stars. His twitter/instagram feeds features some great dancing moves with his partner Whitney Carson. Carson is serious about the season and is even fining Von Miller $100 every minute he’s late for practice. Season begins on Monday March 21st.
