Elliott And Goff Sign Massive Contracts, Nationals Stun Mets, Federer Loses, Serena’s 100th Win

FOOTBALL

The Dallas Cowboys and Ezekiel Elliott drama looks to be over with Elliott agreeing to a six-year $90 million contract extension.  With $50 million guaranteed (surpassing Todd Gurley’s $45 mill), the contract makes Elliott the wealthiest running back to play in the NFL. Elliott is expected to be at practice Wednesday and ready to play the season opener against the New York Giants.

In other huge contract news, Rams quarterback Jared Goff agreed to a record-setting four-year contract extension worth $134 million (with $110 million guaranteed).

BASEBALL

The Washington Nationals stunned baseball fans with their improbable comeback victory over the New York Mets in the ninth inning Tuesday night. With a three-run walk-off home run, the Nationals came back from a  10-4  deficit in the bottom of the ninth to win 11-10. The ugly loss for the Mets likely ended their season.

TENNIS

In a stunning upset, #3 ranked Roger Federer lost to 78th ranked Grigor Dimitrov at the US Open Tuesday night. Federer was previously 7-0 against Dimitrov.

Serena Williams handily defeated Qiang Want in 44 minutes in the quarterfinals, making her only the 4th player in the Open era to win 100 matches at a single major. She will face Elina Svitolina in the semifinals.

Elliott Questionable In Cowboys Season Opener, Saquon Barkley Says Philly Fans Craziest, Gronk Is Mr. Recovery

FOOTBALL

The Dallas Cowboys season opener begins September 8th against the New York Giants, and there’s still a strong possibility they’ll be without star running back Ezekiel Elliott. Elliott is still in intense contract negotiations with the team, and Cowboys’ owner Jerry Jones told the press, “The same way we look at any player [who’s out], we’ll get ready for the Giants [without Elliott]. If he’s not there for the Giants, and comes in the next or the next or the next or we’ll use him in the playoffs.” If Elliott doesn’t open the season, the team feels confident in their rookie Tony Pollard and veteran Alfred Morris.

Saquon Barkley, the New York Giants’ featured running back, was asked recently which team had the craziest fans. Without hesitation he named the Philadelphia Eagles. He said, “I would have to go with Philly. I think Eli (Manning) came out and said something about it earlier in the year — when you go out there, you don’t just see grown men yelling at you, you see little kids yelling at you. When he said that quote, I remember just, like, flashing back to my first time running out there. And I remember just looking up, and I’m seeing this one little kid — one day, I hope I find out his name — but he was saying some things that, probably, an 11- or 12-year-old shouldn’t be really saying … Philly fans are crazy.”

Former New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski spoke about his retirement recently mentioning he was going to focus on advocating for NFL players to use CBD products (CBDMEDIC which aids in pain relief). CBD is currently on the list of NFL’s banned substances, but Gronk said “I’m advocating for CBD to be acceptable for all players for recovery. You can just call me Mr. Recovery. You know you like that name. Mr. Recovery, baby.”
