Klay Breaks Curry’s 3-Point Game Record, Cavs Fire Head Coach, Pats D Steps Up

BASKETBALL

The Golden State Warriors’ Klay Thompson broke teammate Steph Curry’s record for most  3-pointers in a game. Thompson scored 14 3-point field goals in an easy 149-124 win over the Chicago Bulls. After the game, Thompson said, “It’s the best feeling in basketball or one of the best feelings in basketball when you touch the ball and feel like it’s going in every time.”

FOOTBALL

One day after the Cleveland Cavaliers ousted their head coach, the other professional sports team, the Browns, fired their head coach, Hue Jackson, and offensive coordinator Todd Haley. The Browns may have finally gotten a couple of wins this season, but it was too little too late and needed to make a change. Last season the team went 0-16 and the prior season 1-15. The team’s defensive coordinator, Gregg Williams, will take over as interim coach.

The New England Patriots couldn’t put together much of an offense on Monday Night Football, but their defense stepped up in a big way and propelled them to a 25-6 win over the Buffalo Bills. Everyone is now anticipating next week’s matchup featuring two future Hall of Fame quarterbacks, the Patriots Tom Brady, and the Green Bay Packers Aaron Rodgers.

There are many articles and stats about which team has the advantage and what players are doing to prepare for one of the biggest series of their career. The Wall Street Journal just came out with an article about Klay Thompson’s off-court obsession: Chess! Thompson plays chess every day (starting in grade school) and according to his childhood friend, “One thing about Klay is that he’s at his best when you back him into a corner. He’ll be playing loose, but once I show I’m a threat, he can really lock in.” According to the reporter, “Thompson plays basketball the way he plays chess”.

The NCAA is supposed to decide today whether North Carolina is eligible to host NCAA events in 2018-2022. North Carolina Lawmakers proposed a change Wednesday night to the controversial HB2 “bathroom bill”. The NCAA moved the 2017 All Star Game from Charlotte, NC  to New Orleans due to what they felt was a discriminatory law. It’s not yet clear if the LGBTQ community accepts the compromise, and if the NCAA thinks the new bill goes far enough to warrant re-instating NCAA events.

Cavs Dominate Game 3, Von Miller Still Negotiating Huge Contract, Sharapova Banned For Drug Use

NBA

Kyrie & LeBronThe Cleveland Cavaliers dominated game 3 from beginning to end and have now made the NBA Final against the Golden State Warriors competitive. Kyrie Irving stepped up early and finished the game with 30 points while LeBron added his magic with 32 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists. Compare those stats to the Warriors’ Splash brothers, Steph Curry and Klay Thompson only combing for 35 points. Game 4 is Friday night 9:00 pm ABC. Cavaliers 120, Warriors 90.

NFL

The Denver Broncos organization has more on its mind than Aqib Talib’s gunshot wound. They are now reportedly still trying to sign an agreement with their franchise linebacker Von Miller. The offer on the table is  $114.5 million over 6 years. The issue apparently is the how much of the money is guaranteed. The Broncos have offered $35 million in the first 2 years while Von Miller’s reps have asked for a number closer to $69 million. Even though Von Miller hasn’t attended the Bronco’s off-season practices, he did join the Team in meeting President Obama at the White House this week.

TENNIS

The former #1 player Maria Sharapova plans to appeal her 2 year suspension from tennis for taking the drug meldonium. Bench Helps Warriors Cruise To Victory

NBA

Andre IguodalaThe Cleveland Cavaliers were only down by 3 entering the 4th quarter but then the Warriors’ bench came to play. Shaun Livingston added a team high 20 points while Leandro Barbosa and Andre Iguodala rounded out a solid 45 point points from these bench players. The Cavs held the Splash brothers (Steph Curry and Klay Thompson) to only 20 points but with the depth and the perseverance of this team, it didn’t matter. In addition to the great play from the bench, sports fans are talking about Andre Iguodala getting “accidentally” swatted in the groin and Warriors’ coach Steve Kerr taking his frustrations out in the 3rd quarter by smashing and destroying a clipboard.  Asked about the clipboard incident, Kerr said, “Destruction tends to ease some of the anger. So I try to take it out on a clipboard instead of a player. It’s better that way.” Game 2 will take place on Sunday, 8:00 pm ET. Warriors 104, Cavaliers 89.

Warriors Heading To NBA Finals, Kevin Durant’s Future, Penguins Win Game 1 Stanley Cup Finals

NBA

WarriorsThe Golden State Warriors continued their incredible season and beat the OKC Thunder to win the Western Conference Finals. The Warriors pulled off what many thought was impossible to come back from a 1-3 series deficit to win the best of 7 game series. They are only the 10th team in playoff history to accomplish this feat. Steph Curry contributed 36 points (and 7 3’s) while his splash brother Klay Thompson added 21 points. The Finals will be a rematch of last year when the Warriors took 6 games to beat the Cavs. The Finals begin Thursday June 2nd at 9:00 pm EST (ABC). Warriors 96, Thunder 88.

The big question on everyone’s mind now that the Thunder’s season is over is whether unrestricted free agent, Kevin Durant, will stay with the team. Durant has spent his entire 9 years with the Thunder and if he stays, he could potentially sign a 5-year contract worth up to $149 million.

NHL

Warriors In Western Conf Finals, Silver Missed Curry Handshake, Raptors 3-2, Serena Williams Eats Dog Food

NBA

The Golden State Warriors are back in the Western Conference Finals with their win over a competitive Portland Trailblazers in game 5.  Steph Curry and fellow Splash brother Klay Thompson had a impressive night scoring but the talk in the sports world was NBA Commissioner Adam Silver presenting Curry with his unanimous MVP trophy. Curry went in for a handshake and Silver missed the cue, leaving Curry hanging. Curry awkwardly (but adorably) danced off the unintentional snub. After the game, Silver made up for the mistake and gave Curry a proper dap. Warriors 125, Trailblazers 121.

In other playoff news, the Toronto Raptors took a lead in the Eastern Conference Semi-finals with a game 5 win over the Miami Heat. Raptors 99, Heat 91.

TENNIS
