Le’Veon Bell Forfeits Franchise Tag, Draymond Suspended For Game, Fans Upset Over Serena Cover

FOOTBALL

The wait is over and Pittsburgh running back  Le’Veon Bell will officially not be a Steeler this year.  When he didn’t report to headquarters by the deadline on Tuesday 4:00 pm ET, he forfeited his franchise tag and $14.5 million salary (not including the $8.5 million he already gave up by not showing up at for the beginning part of the season). For a full recap of why Bell held out and what his options are now, click here.

BASKETBALL

The Golden State Warriors suspended Draymond Green for a game without pay (around $120k) for yelling expletives at his teammate Kevin Durant. The situation got tense when Green refused to pass the ball to Durant then turned the ball over causing the game to go into overtime. At this point the players and coaches are minimizing the incident and claiming there are no long term issues with team chemistry.  In an interview, Green said, “What happened, happened. We’re trying to move on, we’re just trying to play basketball.”

TENNIS

Serena Williams graced one of the covers of GQ’s Man of the Year issues with the word “Man”crossed out and “Woman” written in. Her fans were upset though because the word woman was placed in quotes. Serena has been accused by critics of appearing to “manly” and even using drugs to make her more muscular. Serena has said in response, “I just work hard and I was born with this badass body and proud of it.” According to GQ, the quotes weren’t meant as a slight. Apparently the designer uses quotes as part of his branding and past collaborations with Serena.

Warriors Up 2-0, Curry’s Historic Nine 3’s, Capitals 2-1 Lead, GM Exec Crashes Pace Car

BASKETBALL

After a big win on Sunday night in Oakland, the Golden State Warriors are up 2-0 in the NBA Finals. Steph Curry had a historic night with 33 points and an NBA Finals record for most 3-pointers in a game (9). After the game, Draymond Green spoke about Curry to USA Today Sports and said, “One thing that stood out to me was his activity on the defensive end to start the game. When he’s like that, the offense will come. He’s probably one of the greatest scorers, if not the greatest scorer, we’ve ever seen. But when he’s locked in on the defensive end, I know it’s coming.” LeBron had a solid night of scoring with 29 points (13 assists,  and with 1,327 points overall in NBA Finals, passed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for 2nd most points in NBA Finals history. He now only trails the 1,679 points held by Jerry West. Warriors 122, Cavs 103.

Next up, Warriors at Cavs on Wednesday at 9:00 pm. ET

HOCKEY

The Washington Capitals’ Alex Ovechkin scored a franchise record 14th goal this postseason to bring his team to a 2-1 lead over the Vegas Golden Knights.  Vegas has now lost consecutive games for the first time this postseason.  The Knights will try and even the series Monday night at 8:00 pm ET.

INDYCAR

After a 3 year drought, Ryan Hunter-Reay won the IndyCar race in Detroit on Sunday, but that wasn’t the most memorable part of the day. GM Executive Mark Reuss was driving the pace car to start the race when he crashed into a wall on the second turn. The race was delayed for 30 minutes, but no one got hurt (other than Reuss’s ego). Apparently, Reuss joins a long list of experienced drivers crashing pace cars.

Weekend NBA Playoff Recap

BASKETBALL

In a recap of the weekend NBA playoffs:

Utah Jazz eliminated the Oklahoma City Thunder on Friday night behind the 38 points from Donovan Mitchell and the 13 rebounds from Rudy Gobert. The big question now that the Thunder’s season is over is if Carmelo Anthony will stay with the team. Anthony was traded to the Thunder last September. He could potentially opt out of his contract worth $28 million, but many feel he’ll stay with the team. He said, “I’m not sacrificing no bench role. That’s out the question. … I think everybody knows that I’ve sacrificed kind of damn near everything — family, moving here by myself. Sacrificed my game for the sake of the team, and was willing to sacrifice any and everything in order for this situation to work out.”

On Sunday, the Jazz played the first game of the West semi-finals against the Houston Rockets. With the Rockets’ James Harden’s 41 points, the game was never close and the Jazz are down 0-1.

The Boston Celtics beat the Milwaukee Bucks on Saturday night and will now match up against their historic rival, the Philadelphia 76ers in the first game of the Eastern Conference semi-finals on Monday night.

A Curry-less Golden State Warriors easily cruised through their first game of the West semi-finals against the New Orleans Pelicans. With Kevin Durant’s 26 points and Draymond Green’s triple-double, the game wasn’t close. The most exciting part of the game was the courtside appearance of Beyonce and Jay-Z. Coach Steve Kerr said Steph Curry will be back for game 2 on Tuesday night.

LeBron James came through again with a huge game 7 and series win over the Indiana Pacers. LeBron kept the Cavaliers series alive with 45 points, 9 rebounds and 4 steals, all while suffering leg cramps.

Draymond Sued And Magic Subpoenaed, Durant Apologizes For Tweet

BASKETBALL

Draymond Green is being sued for an alleged assault last July against a former Michigan State football player, Jermaine Edmonson. Green originally agreed to a plea deal where he paid a fine for noise violation and civil infraction. Edmonson and his girlfriend clearly weren’t happy, so they filed a civil lawsuit. Edmonson said in a news conference,”I think about what happened with Draymond every day. I still feel his hand on my jaw. There are nights where I wake up crying.” LA Lakers President of Operations, Magic Johnson, has been subpoenaed to testify in the trial after a tweet he sent out stating Green felt apologetic.

Speaking of social media, Kevin Durant found himself in hot water when he tweeted his reasons for leaving OKC in a response to a random fan. Durant was critical of his former coach Billy Donovan, and instead of making excuses, expressed remorse. He said, “That was just me being a total (expletive) idiot. I own up to it. I want to move on from it. It probably hit me probably harder than what everybody (thought). Everybody else was telling me to relax, to snap out of it, but I was really, really upset with myself more than anything. It’s not the fact that people were talking about me, because I deserve that, but I’m just more upset with myself that I let myself go that far, you know what I was saying? It was a joke to me at first. I was doing it all summer, and it went too deep. I went too hard… I haven’t slept in two days, two nights. I haven’t ate. It’s crazy, because I feel so (expletive) pissed at myself and I’m mad that I brought someone into it.”

Adam Silver’s Memo To NBA About Resting Players, Brady’s SB Jersey Found

BASKETBALL

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver delivered a memo to NBA Team owners expressing his concern over teams resting their players when the players aren’t injured. He wants to make sure teams report when players have actual injuries, so the media and fans know if one of their players will be sitting on the bench or participating in the action on the court. Last week the Golden State Warriors sat their stars Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green, while the Cleveland Cavaliers sat LeBron, Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love. Clearly the fans and media weren’t too happy watching that lineup. ESPN issued a statement saying, “As always, our aim is to serve NBA fans with the best matchups involving the league’s top stars and we share the fans’ disappointment. We understand this is a complex issue and we’re working closely with the NBA to best address it going forward from a media partnership standpoint.”

FOOTBALL

The mystery of Tom Brady’s missing jersey is finally over. The now ex-director of a newspaper in Mexico City is reportedly the culprit in stealing two of Brady’s Super Bowl jerseys and possibly the Denver Bronco’s Von Miller’s helmet from Super Bowl 50. Officials were able to recover the jersey based on surveillance footage of this reporter walking in and out of the players’ locker room with a backpack. You can see the footage here. It’s reported Brady’s jersey is worth at least $500 thousand dollars.

Kushers Won’t Buy Marlins, Green Claims Dolan Slave Master, Anthony All Star Game

BASEBALL

Jeffrey Loria, the current owner of the Miami Marlins, looks like he’ll be nominated as the next US Ambassador to France. Loria is interested in selling the team,  and one of the rumored buyers was the Kushner family. According to reports, the Kushners have now bowed out expressing a conflict of interest (Jared Kushner is married to Ivanka and is the Senior advisor to Trump).

BASKETBALL

NBA Commish Adam Silver tried to mediate and put an end to the Charles Oakley vs James Dolan feud, but the Warriors Draymond Green brought the topic front and center again. Green, on his podcast, called Dolan’s treatment of Oakley a “slave master mentality”. He said, “It was all fine and dandy when he was laying people out, taking fines, and all this stuff for your organization. But now all of a sudden, when he say something that he feels, it’s a problem. I disagree with that. I definitely think, like I said, that that’s a slave master mentality.”

Carmelo Anthony will play in his 10th All Star Game on Sunday. He was offered the injured Kevin Love’s spot in the Eastern Conference. The ironic part of this swap is that there has been talk the last few weeks of a Anthony/Love trade before the NBA trade deadline. The All-Star swap, however, was not exactly the big trade people were talking about.

Blitz For Six, Draymond & Curry Wear Cupcakes, Sprewell Sits Next To Dolan

FOOTBALL

The Super Bowl champion New England Patriots are certainly not sitting on their laurels with an amazing 5 Super Bowl wins. Just days after taking home the Vince Lombardi Trophy, the Pats filed a trademark application for the phrase “Blitz for Six”. Got to appreciate their confidence.

BASKETBALL

Golden State Warrior, Kevin Durant knew what he would get some heat Saturday night when he returned to Oklahoma City to play his former team, the Oklahoma City Thunder. Not only did Durant put up solid numbers in a decisive 130-114 win, but he and his teammates embraced the taunting. Steph Curry and Draymond Green grabbed a couple of the  “Cupcake” tshirts, distributed at the game and did their postgame interviews proudly wearing them. In case it’s not clear, the “cupcake” reference is supposed to imply Durant is “soft”.

The New York Knicks are trying to deflect their bad press (when they recently ousted Charles Oakley) and attempted to show they appreciate their players, by inviting a number of former Knicks to attend the matchup against the San Antonia Spurs Sunday night. Most notable was former Knick Latrell Sprewell, who sat next to team owner James Dolan. When Sprewell first appeared back at Madison Square Garden in 2003, after his trade to the Timberwolves, he shouted at Dolan resulting in a 25K fine. It’s not clear if inviting the former players Sunday night helped the Knicks image, but at least they had a good night of basketball beating the Spurs 94-90.

Cowboys Streak Alive, Gronk Surgery, McNight Victim Of Road Rage, Draymond Strikes Again

FOOTBALL

The Dallas Cowboys win streak is still alive. In Thursday night’s matchup against the Minnesota Vikings, the Cowboys capitalized on Vikings mistakes and turned the game in their favor. Even though it wasn’t a great night for the Cowboys, they managed to win their 11th straight game. Cowboys 17, Vikings 15.

Rob GronkowskiNew England Patriots Tight End Rob Gronkowski’s season is likely over. He is scheduled to have back surgery for a herniated disk on Friday. The Patriots will miss Gronk for his play and his leadership. They stated: “Rob has always been one of our hardest workers and was voted captain for the leadership he provides on our team.” This will be Gronk’s 8th surgery of his career.

For the second time this year, a former professional player was a victim of road rage. Joe McKnight, former New York Jets running back and star at USC, was shot Thursday afternoon. The police are investigating the incident and potential motives.

BASKETBALL

The Golden State Warriors Draymond Green can’t seem to keep his limbs in check. After Draymond was fouled by Houston’s James Harden, he kicked him in the head. The NBA League office called Draymond’s flagrant foul  an “Unnatural leg extension, foot made contact with head.” The Warriors lost the game in the second overtime period, ending their 12 game winning streak. Rockets 132, Warriors 127.

Jimmy Walker Wins First Championship, Draymond’s Private Parts, Kaepernick Compets For Job

GOLF

Jimmy Walker 2In the last PGA Championship of the year, Jimmy Walker edged out Jason Day for a one stroke win at Baltusrol.  Saturday afternoon was a washout due to severe thunderstorms making Sunday an historically long final day for a Championship. There were 4 different champions at each of the 4 major championships this year and this win was Walker’s first major of his career.

NBA

Drama keeps following Golden State’s Draymond Green. Over the weekend Draymond accidentally posted a picture of his private parts on snapchat. He thought it was a private post and when he found out it wasn’t he immediately took it down. Green, as you may remember, was suspended for a game during the NBA finals for kicking LeBron James in the groin. Hmmm, do we see a theme here?

NFL

The NFL pre-season camps are underway and all players are trying to impress. Some players, like San Francisco 49ers’ Colin Kaepernick, need to really shine. A few months ago, the Denver Broncos seemed interested in having Kaepernick replace Peyton Manning, but when the Team picked Paxton Lynch in the draft, Kaep remained a 49er competing for the the starting job against Blaine Gabbert. Chip Kelley, the Niners’ new head coach, announced the position is up for grabs.

LeBron And Kyrie Show Greatness With Cavs Win, Robinson’s Seattle Tryout

NBA

LeBron James & Kyrie IrvingThe stakes were high Monday night in Oakland for the NBA Finals with LeBron James and Kyrie Irving showing greatness with a stunning 41 points each to force a game 6 in Cleveland Thursday night. Their combined 82 points was the most by teammates facing elimination in an NBA Finals game. The Warriors were without their Center Draymond Green who was suspended for this game due to a flagrant foul he committed against LeBron James in Game 4. The Warriors’ defense had trouble containing LeBron and Kyrie without Green and when the Warriors’ Andrew Bogut went down in the 3rd quarter with an injured knee, the game was essentially over. Cavaliers 112, Warriors 97.

The Warriors blamed LeBron for disrespecting Green by walking over him during the incident in game 4 then heckled him before and during Monday’s game. Instead of rattling LeBron, the chatter just ignited his fiercely competitive nature directing him to deliver not only 41 points but also 16 rebounds and 7 assists.

Emotions will be running high Thursday night for game 6 when Draymond rejoins the team.  What could have been a boring 7 game series is now turning into drama filled must watch TV. Game 6 June 16th 9:00 pm EST.

NFL

In what seems like a huge longshot, 11-year NBA veteran, Nate Robinson is trying out to be a Seattle Seahawks defensive back. Robinson is 32 years old but has stayed in physical shape by playing this past season for Hapoel Tel Aviv. Robinson played cornerback in college but then quit to pursue his basketball career.
