BASKETBALL

The Philadelphia 76ers let James Harden go. According to the report, “The 76ers made it clear throughout the process that the franchise did not see a long-term future with Harden.” The Clippers are his preferred destination, but the Knicks and the Heat are also possibilities.

BASEBALL

New York Yankees pitcher Domingo Germán threw Major League Baseball’s 24th perfect game and its first since 2012.

GYMNASTICS

Simone Biles announced she will return to competition in August. Biles hasn’t competed since the Tokyo Olympics where she announced she was taking a break in order to focus on her mental health. Biles dominated gymnastics for almost 10 years and is tied with Shannon Miller for the most medals won by an American female.

FOOTBALL

The NFL suspended four players for violating the league’s gambling policy. The two Colts players, Rashod Berry and Demetrius Taylor, were subsequently suspended by the team.

BASEBALL

Coinciding with the Nevada Senate voting to approve a $380 million Las Vegas ballpark for the Athletics, fans showed up at the Oakland Coliseum en mass to protest the team’s ownership and impending move to Vegas. PGA & LIV Merge, Churchill Downs Suspends Racing, DeGrom Out

GOLF

After two years of bitter fighting and lots of drama, the PGA Tour and LIV Golf (the group backed by Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund) will merge. The combined forces will create “a new, collectively owned, for-profit entity.” Many big-name stars, such as Phil Mickelson and Brooks Koepka, left the PGA for a much larger paycheck from LIV (and were vilified by other golfers and fans), but now that the leagues have merged, it will be interesting to see how this plays out.

HORSE RACING

Churchill Downs Inc announced that racing will be suspended from June 7th-July 3rd to conduct a review of the track after 12 horses died in the past month.

BASEBALL

Jacob deGrom will undergo Tommy John surgery and isn’t expected to return until the middle of next season. DeGrom signed a five-year, $185 million deal this offseason with the Texas Rangers.

Shocking Upsets In Stanley Cup, Curry Makes History Again In Big Game 7 Win, Misbehaving Parents In New Jersey Little League

HOCKEY

Shocking upsets in round one of the Stanley Cup! Seattle (a franchise only two years old) pulled off an incredible win over the defending Stanley Cup champions, the Colorado Avalanche in Game 7. The Boston Bruins lost in overtime to the Florida Panthers. The Bruins, one of the best regular-season teams in history going into the Tournament, fumbled a 3-1 lead for a first-round loss.

BASKETBALL

Steph Curry made history yet again. He scored 50 points (the most points ever scored in a Game 7) for an exciting win over the Sacramento Kings. Kevon Looney also had an epic night by grabbing more than 20 rebounds (the third time he’s done this in this series). The Warriors will now face LeBron and the Lakers on Thursday night.

BASEBALL

A New Jersey town has an interesting solution for parents who misbehave during their children’s Little League games. “If parents want to yell at the umpires, they have to become an umpire for three games. If they refuse, they are thrown out of the game.”

Harden, Embiid, Green Fouls, Warriors Cut Deficit, Suns Over Clippers, Brogdon 6th Man, Scherzer Won’t Appeal, Drake Loses Big On Parlays

BASKETBALL

The Philadelphia 76ers went up 3-0 against the Brooklyn Nets, but all anyone is talking about is James Harden’s controversial ejection from the game, and Joel Embiid’s flagrant 1 foul which looked very similar to Draymond Green’s suspension from two nights ago. If you watch all three, there’s clearly no consistency in the calls.

In other NBA news, the Warriors (without Draymond) beat the Sacramento Kings in a pivotal game 3 to bring the series deficit to 2-1. And, the Phoenix Suns narrowly beat the Clippers to take a 2-1 lead in the series.

Boston Celtics point guard Malcolm Brogdon was named Sixth Man of the Year. He’s one of only two players to win both the Sixth Man of the Year and Rookie of the Year.

BASEBALL

Matt Scherzer won’t be appealing his 10-game suspension for the use of “sticky stuff” on his glove because he felt the appeal wouldn’t be heard by a neutral arbitrator.

OTHER

Musician and massive sports enthusiast Drake, posted on Instagram that he was on a betting cold streak after losing two parlays for a combined $150,000. That was nothing compared to the $400,000 he lost in February for betting on Jake Paul to knock out Tommy Fury.

A’s Purchase Land In Las Vegas, Scherzer Ejected For Foreign Substance, Brown Named Coach Of Year, Tua Takes Jiu-Jitsu

BASEBALL

The Oakland A’s agreed to purchase 49 acres of land near the Las Vegas Strip with the intention of building a $1.5 billion ballpark and relocating to Nevada. If everything goes on schedule, the new stadium would be ready for the start of the 2027 season. The A’s current ballpark (the Oakland Coliseum) has many issues including a “colony of feral cats and a possum living in the visitors’ TV booth.”

The Mets’ pitcher Max Scherzer was ejected for allegedly having a foreign substance on his hand. Scherzer swore it was “just sweat and rosin,” but the umpires insisted it was the stickiest hand they’d ever seen. Scherzer could face a 10-game suspension, but he’ll likely file a protest.

BASKETBALL

Sacramento Kings coach Mike Brown became the first ever unanimous selection for NBA Coach of the Year.

FOOTBALL

Miami quarterback Tua Tagovailoa suffered major concussion issues last season and said he seriously considered retiring. Instead, he’s taken matters into his own hands (literally) by learning jiu-jitsu to help him fall more safely.

Opening Day In MLB, Rule Changes For Shorter More Exciting Games, Adam Silver As Disney CEO?

BASEBALL

Today is Opening Day for Major League Baseball. There are a slew of new rules to follow (here’s a good guide), but the main goal of the changes is to shorten the length of the games and increase the action. In 2021, the longest game stretched 3 hours and 10 minutes.

Now, there is a pitch clock, shift restrictions, limited pickoffs, and bigger bases.

BASKETBALL

Disney is looking to appoint a new CEO, and there’s a rumor that NBA commissioner Adam Silver is in the running. Silver has denied he’s interested in the job.

Japan Beat Team USA In World Baseball Classic, Anderson Replacing Pitino, Pitino Heading To St. Johns, Cooley Replacing Ewing, Magic Johnson Joins Harris

BASEBALL

Japan beat Team USA in the much-hyped World Baseball Classic Championship. The tournament did not disappoint, and the final moment when Los Angeles Angels’ teammates Shohei Ohtani (representing Japan) struck out Mike Trout added to the drama. After Japan’s 3-2 victory, Ohtani said, “I believe this is the best moment in my life.”

BASKETBALL

In some big coaching news, Tobin Anderson is leaving Fairleigh Dickinson (after the team’s historic Cinderella run in the NCAA tournament) and replacing Rick Pitino at Ion. Pitino will be taking over at St. Johns. And, Georgetown hired former Providence coach Ed Cooley to take over for a fired Patrick Ewing.

NBA Superstar Magic Johnson joined the investment group led by Josh Harris in an effort to buy the Washington Commanders. The group is attempting to reach a deal before the NFL’s annual league meeting on Sunday.
