19-Yr Old Alcaraz Wins Open, Swiatek Wins Women’s Final, Ravens/Jackson Can’t Agree

Nineteen-year-old Carlos Alcaraz won the U.S. Open men’s final, his first Grand Slam championship. Alcaraz, who is now number 1 in the world, is the youngest Open men’s champion since Pete Sampras in 1990.

In the women’s final, Poland’s Iga Swiatek (the #1 seed) defeated Tunisia’s Ons Jabeur for her third major championship and first U.S. Open title.

Heading into the first weekend of the NFL football season, the biggest news was that the Baltimore Ravens and quarterback Lamar Jackson failed to agree to a contract extension, which means Jackson is betting on himself to excel, as he’ll be playing this season on the fifth year of his rookie deal.
