Serena Retires, Margaret Court Bitter, Coco Loves NY, Kyrgios and Tiafoe Eliminate #1 & #2, Week 1 College Football, 12-Team Playoffs In 2026

TENNIS

The GOAT Serena Williams lost in the third round of the US Open to Ajla Tomljanovic, likely ending her inspiring tennis career. Williams will retire with 23 Grand Slam Titles just shy of  Australian Margaret Court’s record of 24 titles. Court was interviewed by Britain’s Daily Telegraph and slammed Williams stating, “Serena, I’ve admired her as a player. But I don’t think she has ever admired me.”

In other US Open news, eighteen-year-old Coco Gauff advanced to her first US Open quarterfinal saying, “New York is bringing out a side of me that I haven’t had since I was 15.”

On the men’s side, the always entertaining Australian Nick Kyrgios defeated the #1 player in the world, Daniil Medvedev (check out this strange play), while American Frances Tiafoe eliminated second-seeded Rafael Nadal in the round of 16.

FOOTBALL

Here’s a snapshot of the winners and losers after week one of the College Football Season.

In 2026, the College Football Playoff will look very different. The CFP Board of Managers announced a 12-team college playoff format with the six highest-ranked conference champions and six at-large teams competing for the Title.
