Astro Pitcher Claims Team Stole Signs, Kaep’s Private Workout, Georgia Replaces Alabama In Top Playoff Rankings

BASEBALL

Ex Astro pitcher, Mike Fiers, claimed Houston used a center-field camera to steal signs during their 2017 season. Fiers, who now pitches for the Oakland Athletics, told The Athletic website that Astros hitters would decode signs from opposing teams via a video feed from the dugout. Fiers explained why he spoke up saying, “I just want the game to be cleaned up a little bit because there are guys who are losing their jobs because they’re going in there not knowing.” The Astros released a statement saying they’ll look into the allegation.

FOOTBALL

The NFL arranged a private workout in Atlanta on Saturday for controversial free-agent quarterback Colin Kaepernick. Kaep tweeted his enthusiasm, “I’m just getting word from my representatives that the NFL league office reached out to them about a workout in Atlanta on Saturday. I’ve been in shape and ready for this for 3 years, can’t wait to see the head coaches and GMs on Saturday.” According to reports, however, the quarterback’s reps requested a Tuesday workout instead (so head coaches and scouts can attend), but the NFL said video will be available.

The new college football rankings are out and so is Alabama. For only the fifth time in the College Football era (since 2014), the Crimson Tide is not in the top four. With Alabama’s loss to LSU on Saturday, Georgia jumped ahead of Alabama to grab the 4th spot. LSU, Ohio State and Clemson round out the top 3. It’s still early, however, and a lot can change. In fact, Alabama has never missed a College Football Playoff since the current playoff system was adopted in 2014.

49ers Lose 1st Game, Alonso & Alvarez Win Rookies Of Year

FOOTBALL

The Seattle Seahawks handed the San Francisco 49ers their first loss of the season on Monday night. With a strong defense that kept harassing SF quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and a solid showing by Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson, Seattle gained the final three-point lead with a 42-yard field goal in the final seconds of overtime. With the Niners’ 27-24 loss, there are now no undefeated teams left in the NFL this season, and the perfect record set by the 1972 Miami Dolphins remains unchallenged.

BASEBALL

The New York Mets’ Pete Alonso won the National League Rookie of the Year thanks to his rookie record 53 home runs. He also recorded 120 RBI’s (the seventh most for a rookie). Even though he started his season in Triple-A, Houston Astros’ Yordan Alvarez made his mark quickly and won the American League Rookie of the Year.

Alabama Loses To LSU And Ingram Believes Trump To Blame, Browns’ Ugly Win, Lamar’s Amazing Run, Jets Over Giants, Waiters Suspended For THC

FOOTBALL

After a 31-game home winning streak, Alabama lost to LSU, shaking up the college football ranking system. The Tigers beat the Crimson Tide 46-41, and according to former Alabama star and Heisman trophy winner Mark Ingram, the loss is because Donald Trump attended the game. The next set of rankings comes out Tuesday night, and LSU has a shot of eclipsing Ohio State with the number one slot.

In the NFL, the Cleveland Browns managed to win a game, but it was ugly. Quarterback Baker Mayfield threw a late game winning touchdown pass to Rashard Higgins for a Browns’ 19-16 victory.

Leading his Baltimore Ravens to another win, quarterback Lamar Jackson is cementing his legacy, but all anyone is talking about after the 49-13 trouncing of the Cincinnati Bengals, is his 47-yard run where he faked out a defender and spun around another for a impressive touchdown.

In the battle of New York, the Jets found a way to beat the Giants. The Giants’ Saquon Barkley had nowhere to run, and Jets’ quarterback Sam Darnold finally had an interception-free game. Jets 34, Giants 27

The Miami Heat suspended Dion Waiters 10 games without pay. Waiters had an adverse reaction to edibles infused with THC (the active ingredient in marijuana) while on a team flight from Phoenix to LA. According to reports, Waiters experienced a panic attack. The Heat posted a statement saying, “We expect all of our players, including Dion, to conduct themselves in accordance with the highest standards, and to show professionalism and respect for their teammates, the team, the fans and the NBA community.”

Raiders Triumph Over Chargers, Raiders’ Fan Trending, Brown Profanity-Laced Tweet

FOOTBALL

The Oakland Raiders hosted what will likely be their final primetime game at Oakland Coliseum against their AFC West rival, the Los Angeles Chargers.  With just 1:02 left to play, Raiders’ running back Josh Jacobs scored, giving the Raiders a dramatic 26-24 victory at home. Of course, it didn’t help that LA Chargers’ QB Philip Rivers had the worst game of the season throwing three interceptions. One particular Raiders’ fan has been trending on social media when he was caught on camera with a sign reading, “I missed my court date to see this game!”

Troubled wide receiver Antonio Brown is back in the news. Next week, he is scheduled to meet with the NFL to discuss allegations of sexual assault. Instead of laying low and just trying to present his case, he posted a profanity-laced tweet on social media saying, “Imagine conforming to a system giving it a 100 percent to see them treat me like this is unfairly! Making money off my sweat and blood F— the @nfl I’ll never play in that s— treat black people the worse! Clear my name and go f— your self.” He slightly recanted later in the day stating “he was ‘very frustrated’ and ‘determine’ to return to the NFL.”

The College Football Playoff (CFP) rankings are out, and Ohio State grabbed the top spot. BASKETBALL

Black Cat On Field Gives Cowboys Boost, Devin Booker’s 40 Points & 76ers First Loss

FOOTBALL

All anyone can talk about after the Dallas Cowboys beat the New York Giants on Monday Night Football is the black cat running on the field in the middle of the second quarter. The Cowboys had a rough start to the game (interception, fumble, missed field goal), but then everything changed when the black cat took the field, and the Cowboys left with a 37-18 win. Announcer Kevin Harlan gave a brilliant play by play of the cat.

BASKETBALL

With 40 points from the Suns’ Devin Booker, Phoenix delivered the Philadelphia 76ers their first loss of the season. The Sixers played without center Joel Embiid who was suspended for two games for an on-court fight with Minnesota’s Karl-Anthony Towns. Suns 114, Sixers 109

Patriots Lose To Ravens, Dolphins Finally Win, Browns’ Whitehead’s Threatening Tweet

FOOTBALL

The mighty New England Patriots got handed its first loss of the season on Sunday night. Thanks to the Baltimore Ravens’ quarterback Lamar Jackson throwing for 163 yards and 3 touchdowns, the Patriots lost 37-20.

While the Pats lost their first game of the season, the Miami Dolphins finally won their first game of the season (and snapped a 10-game losing streak dating back to last December). Dolphins’ quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick threw for 3 TD’s to help the Dolphins beat the New York Jets 26-18.

The Cleveland Browns lost to the Denver Broncos 24-19. Browns’ safety Jermaine Whitehead’s performance on Sunday drew criticism on social media, but his response, according to Cleveland’s spokesperson, was “totally unacceptable and highly inappropriate.” In his now-deleted threatening tweet, he said, “Come get it in blood (expletive) made ass lil boy. I’m out there with a broke hand .. don’t get smoked (expletive) ass cracker.” The Browns have now recorded their 4th straight loss and fall to 2-6 on the season.
