Astro Pitcher Claims Team Stole Signs, Kaep’s Private Workout, Georgia Replaces Alabama In Top Playoff Rankings

Ex Astro pitcher, Mike Fiers, claimed Houston used a center-field camera to steal signs during their 2017 season. Fiers, who now pitches for the Oakland Athletics, told The Athletic website that Astros hitters would decode signs from opposing teams via a video feed from the dugout. Fiers explained why he spoke up saying, “I just want the game to be cleaned up a little bit because there are guys who are losing their jobs because they’re going in there not knowing.” The Astros released a statement saying they’ll look into the allegation.

The NFL arranged a private workout in Atlanta on Saturday for controversial free-agent quarterback Colin Kaepernick. Kaep tweeted his enthusiasm, “I’m just getting word from my representatives that the NFL league office reached out to them about a workout in Atlanta on Saturday. I’ve been in shape and ready for this for 3 years, can’t wait to see the head coaches and GMs on Saturday.” According to reports, however, the quarterback’s reps requested a Tuesday workout instead (so head coaches and scouts can attend), but the NFL said video will be available.

The new college football rankings are out and so is Alabama. For only the fifth time in the College Football era (since 2014), the Crimson Tide is not in the top four. With Alabama’s loss to LSU on Saturday, Georgia jumped ahead of Alabama to grab the 4th spot. LSU, Ohio State and Clemson round out the top 3. It’s still early, however, and a lot can change. In fact, Alabama has never missed a College Football Playoff since the current playoff system was adopted in 2014.
