Astros PR Nightmare, Fire Taubman, Warriors Lose In New Arena, Cook’s TD Helps Vikings Over Redskins

BASEBALL

On Friday night, the Houston Astros head to Washington DC for Game 3 of the World Series. The Astros are not only down 2-0 but also trying to repair their PR nightmare of a week. After Houston beat the NY Yankees Saturday night in the American League Championship Series, a Sports Illustrated writer Stephanie Apstein reported that assistant GM Brandon Taubman taunted three female reporters while discussing the Astros signing Roberto Osuna. Osuna was suspended for 75 games last year for domestic abuse violations. According to Apstein, Taubman yelled, “Thank God we got Osuna! I’m so f—ing glad we got Osuna!” in front of the visibly upset female reporters. After initially deflecting the situation, the Astros fired Taubman on Thursday and released a statement saying his conduct “does not reflect the values” of the organization.

The ceremonial first pitch on Friday night will feature retired players (pitcher Chad Cordero and catcher Brian Schneider) who played in 2005 when the Nationals team came back to Washington.

The Golden State Warriors got trounced on Thursday night in the first regular-season game in their new arena. The Los Angeles Clippers won 141-122. After the game, Warriors forward Draymond Green did not mince words stating, “We f—ing sucked, And we gotta get better.”
