Senator Manchin’s Equal Pay Bill For U.S. Women’s Soccer, Shane Bieber Wins All-Star MVP

SOCCER

Shortly after the U.S. Women won the World Cup, West Virginia University’s women’s soccer coach wrote to Senator Joe Manchin asking him to support the U.S. Women and their mission to receive equal pay. Manchin has now introduced a bill stating that federal funding for hosting the 2026 World Cup will be withheld until the U.S. Women’s National Team is compensated at the same level as the men. In Machin’s words, “The clear unequitable pay between the U.S. men’s and women’s soccer teams is unacceptable and I’m glad the U.S. Women’s Soccer Team latest victory is causing public outcry. They are the best in the world and deserve to be paid accordingly.”

BASEBALL

The American League beat the National League 4-3 in the 2019 All-Star game in Cleveland. The Indians Shane Bieber, who wasn’t even supposed to play, was named the MVP. Bieber got the call on Friday night that he was replacing Texas Rangers Mike Minor. After the game he said, “To be able to do it in front of the home crowd and my first All-Star Game is definitely not something I expected, especially being added to the game four or five days ago.”
