U.S. Women’s Soccer Routs Thailand, Defends Celebrations

SOCCER

U.S. Women’s soccer is creating quite a stir. They not only routed Thailand 13-0 on Tuesday in the World Cup opener but caused some to question their sportsmanship for their celebrations after each goal. Striker Alex Morgan, who scored a record-tying five goals, defended the team ratcheting up the score and said, “we knew that every goal could matter in this group stage game.” Scoring differential does matter in World Cup play as it could be used as a tiebreaker for seeding purposes. As for the excessive celebrating, veteran player Abby Wambach weighed in to say “It’s the World Cup folks. Would you say this about the men? Didn’t think so. For all that have issue with many goals: for some players this is (their) first World Cup goal, and they should be excited. Imagine it being you out there. This is your dream of playing and then scoring in a World Cup. Celebrate.Would you tell a men’s team to not score or celebrate?” For the World Cup Schedule, click here.

Warriors Survive Thrilling But Devastating Game 5, Raptors Ugly Cheers For KD Injury

BASKETBALL

The win was overshadowed though by the devastating site of Kevin Durant collapsing on the court in the second quarter with a right leg injury (find personal injury law firm serving in Metairie area for legal help).  After the game, coach Steve Kerr said, “I just told the team I didn’t know what to say, because on the one hand I’m so proud of them, just the amazing heart and grit that they showed, and on the other I’m just devastated for Kevin. So it’s a bizarre feeling that we all have right now. An incredible win and a horrible loss at the same time.”

Another upsetting incident from Monday’s game was hearing Toronto fans in the arena clapping and cheering when Durant went down. Steph Curry told reporters, “Very confused around that reaction. It’s not my experience with people of this city. I commend [Raptors players] Danny Green and Kyle Lowry for signaling to the crowd. I hope that ugliness doesn’t show itself again.” Klay Thompson had even sharper words saying, “It was bulls–t. That was freaking ridiculous. I can’t even put into words how mad I was about that.”

Death Threats To Warriors Owners Wife Over Beyoncé, Thompson Returns, Wentz Signs $128 Mill Extension With Eagles

BASKETBALL

Social media went crazy after the Golden State/Toronto Game 3 when Nicole Curran, wife of Warriors owner Joe Lacob, leaned over Beyoncé to say something to Jay-Z. Beyoncé didn’t look happy with the interaction, and fans took to Curran’s Instagram account and sent her death threats. Curran canceled the account and issued a statement saying,

“Listen, Beehive, I respect Queen B. I love her! I talked to her husband twice tonight. First, to take a drink order for them both when they arrived as they were our guests. Second, to explain why I gave his wife a rose from a fan. All of this has been taken out of context. I am a happily married woman. Telling me to kill myself? Somehow I don’t think she would support this.”

The Warriors Klay Thompson is expected to return to the lineup for Game 4 of the NBA Finals on Friday night against the Raptors. Fans hoped Kevin Durant would also return, but coach Steve Kerr said Durant was still recovering from his calf injury suffered on May 8th.

Jeopardy Phenom Finally Loses, Kawhi’s Lawsuit Against Nike

JEOPARDY

Jeopardy phenom James Holzhauer’s run is finally over. On Monday night, Holzhauer answered his Final Jeopardy question correctly but didn’t wage enough money and lost to Chicago librarian Emma Boettcher. Holzhauer explained his strategy, “I knew I could only win if Emma missed Final Jeopardy, as there was no way she wouldn’t bet to cover my all-in bet. So my only concern was getting overtaken by third place, and I bet just enough to make sure of locking him out. Betting big would have looked good for the cameras, but now I turn my straight bet (Emma misses) into a parlay (Emma misses and I get it right).”

BASKETBALL

Toronto Raptors forward Kawhi Leonard recently filed a lawsuit against Nike. He is claiming the company committed fraud by using a logo Leonard designed (called “Klaw”), falsely taking credit for the design, and applying for copyright registration. Leonard’s endorsement deal with Nike expired at the end of September 2018. He is now currently working with New Balance. Kawhi is currently in California preparing for Wednesday’s game 3 of the NBA Finals against the Golden State Warriors.
