Alabama Shuts Out LSU, Pats Win Showdown, Rams Finally Lose, Thomas Cell Phone Call

In college football, #1 Alabama has been blasting their opponents all season, but some claim they’ve had easy matchups. This weekend, however, Alabama played rival, #4 ranked LSU, and easily quieted any critics. The Crimson Tide’s quarterback and Heisman trophy favorite, Tua Tagovailoa, threw for two touchdowns and even ran for a TD, but Alabama’s defense deserves much of the credit for not allowing the Tigers any wiggle-room and leading to an embarrassing shutout for LSU.  With the win, Alabama clinched a spot in the SEC Championship. Alabama 29, LSU 0.

The NFL’s most anticipated matchup of the weekend featured the showdown between quarterback greats: Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers and Tom Brady and the New England Patriots. In the 4th quarter, the game was tied 17-17, but the Pats added a jolt of excitement when they ran a trick play.  Brady lateralled to receiver Julian Edelman who then passed to James White who ran to the 2-yard line (with the next play resulting in a TD).  The Patriots won their 6th straight game. Patriots 31, Packers 17.

The Los Angeles Rams have finally lost a game thanks to Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints.  Brees looked unstoppable all day and put the final touch on the game when he found Michael Thomas in the end zone late in the 4th quarter.  Thomas had anticipated he’d score at some point in the game and placed a cell phone in each end zone. After Thomas scored, he grabbed the cell phone from the goal posts in an homage to former Saints’ receiver Joe Horn, who infamously pulled this stunt in 2003 and was fined $30,000 for doing so. When Horn was asked his reaction to Thomas’s celebration, he said, “It took a lot of courage … and I appreciate that, and I’ll never forget that.” He went on to quote Muhammad Ali and stated, “He who is not courageous enough to take risks will accomplish nothing in life.” Saints 45, Rams 35.
