LeBron Taking Talents To LA, Durant And George Remain With Teams, Russia & Croatia Advance To Quarterfinals

BASKETBALL

After months of speculation, the wait is over and LeBron James has made his decision. He is taking his talents to the Los Angeles Lakers. The press release read,  “LeBron James, four time NBA MVP, three time NBA finals MVP, fourteen time NBA All Star, and two time Olympic gold medalist has agreed to a four year, $154 million contract with the Los Angeles Lakers.” According to reports, LeBron’s family is excited to be in LA. The transition should be easy for him as he already has two homes there. The Cleveland Cavaliers’ owner Dan Gilbert posted a classy letter in response to LeBron leaving the team, saying  “We look forward to the retirement of the famous #23 Cavs jersey one day down the line.”

In other NBA news, the Warriors Kevin Durant agreed to sign a one-year deal with the Golden State Warriors (with a second-year option) for $30 million for 2018/19 and $31.5 million for the option year. And rounding out the weekend’s high profile news, Oklahoma City Thunder’s Paul George agreed to stay with the team for a four-year $137 million deal.

WORLD CUP

Russia and Croatia advance to the World Cup quarterfinals after exciting penalty kick shootouts. Both countries goalkeepers prevented Spain and Denmark from advancing to the quarterfinals. Russia is the host country but also the lowest ranked team in a field of 32, so the win over Spain is a huge victory. Russia will now play Croatia on Saturday.
